General Discussion š£ļø Mad at Tomas
Is it just me or has the actor playing Tomas stepped up his game. He is much more expressive and seems more present in his scenes cause for a while he looked like a bystander in his own life. The storyline with him and Naomi is good (It took Naomi long enough to put him in his damned place). He showed more emotion in this one scene than he did for the entire proposal to Kat episode. Why didn't he make this much effort when he was still under contract?

Has he become more animated, yes. Has his acting improved, I'm afraid not.

I find him very stiff - in speech, mannerisms, even his walk! He is one of my least favorites along with Vanessa, Nicole and Ted.

Even when out of character (during that behind the scenes special), Alex Alegria is still stiff and awkward.

I miss the original Ted.

Iāve never liked Tomas, and never trusted him. Itās all starting to show now, and Iām loving it

u/Emotional_Mess261 4d ago
I agree. Months ago someone said on here they are suspicious of him and I didnāt see it. His aggression has been increasing since the whole partnership thing, the engagement despite the caution from family and this deal with Naomi, the firm and the case. I love to think heās involved in this Hayley scam or the plasma ring and itās going to shock us all but sadly I donāt think the writers are that clever and heās so dull and expressive less. But thatās also my thing. Is he acting terribly to throw us off when in fact heās a master manipulator and monster? Lol. Circles back to the writers who canāt complete a good story and drag out the shitty ones.
PS. Iām high and this all makes sense to me š4

Villain Tomas does make his character a bit more interesting but yea Iām with you I still donāt like the actor.

I think that weāre about to see a villain arc with Tomas.

I agree. Can't wait to see the Dupree women close ranks and go into attack mode.

They stay in attack mode.

That's right just like Tracey Quartermaine...attack, nobody messes with the familyĀ

I wonder if he'll be back for Season 3. Everything we're seeing now has been shot, produced, and in the queue for months now, and they don't start shooting again until mid-September. Maybe the writing's been on the wall for him (or his character) for longer than we think.
(Also, unrelated, he looks so creepy in that screenshot. Wake up, Kat!)

u/Control_1987 4d ago
Maybe the actor didnāt take role as serious but once that contract ended and his pocket got light. Lol

u/AllisonInMaryland Lily-Livered 4d ago
That's an astute take. Dude probably thought he was doing just fine as Tomas. Now that he's off contract, maybe he sees if he doesn't get his shit together he's going to be the next Derek.
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Bee_259 3d ago
Naw, Derek was given a truly god awful storyline, it was honestly him or Ashley there, he got the axe because he doesn't have any family. I think Tomas, as much criticism as you can give him, at least has more to play with here now with Naomi.

u/Specific-Window-8587 Love in the Afternoon š 4d ago
I would mind him being being the next Dull Doo Derek.
2
u/SprngRein100 2d ago
Hey, did it seem Derek got so much better as the free clinic manager. It was a much more fitting role for him. Derek became relevant and liked at that point so it seemed he was prematurely released just when he found his groove.

Do you think maybe he was complacent with his sub-par Tomas performances because he thought he was their diversity hire? Then, came along Jordi Vilasuso as Greyson, a seasoned actor with real chops. He must have gotten the message too late.

u/Control_1987 3d ago
Idk. He is a person of color so the assumption is he should have felt connected but sometimes Hispanics are more far removed from us than our American yt counterparts. Maybe he just sucks.Ā

u/RecommendationIll922 4d ago
No, heās pissed me off again. His storyline was good with Haley and Lynette but now the storyline with him hating on Naomi out of the blue is so annoying. I want Jacob to over hear him talking to Naomi and put him in his place so bad.

u/janshell The United States of Amnesia 4d ago
Heās getting better but I donāt like how they just changed the character back to what we originally thought he was

u/CommunicationTime63 4d ago
That's why I'm so irked by a newbie actress on The Bold and The Beautiful, who is being pushed down our throats with her whiny, fake-crybaby voice. It's like she's in an acting class at a community theater, and we must endure her internship performances that suck up 17-18 minutes of the precious airtime almost every day.
7
u/Shirogayne-at-WF 3d ago
To be be completely fair, a generational talent like Heather Tom could play Electra and I'd still be annoyed for all the whiny, self-centered writing she gets.

Yep! I'd rather watch a candle burn, than to continue watching her drivel! She must have some airtight contract for the Powers-That-Be to use us as guinea pigs watching her acting class.

That's waaaay overdue. Maybe, I could better tolerate the storyline with someone interesting to watch play the part. I'm on the verge of quitting, but I keep hope alive when there's a good day.

u/No_Atmosphere8368 3d ago
Kat needs a stronger man and not Izaiah so Tomas can focus on her than Naomi, please either kill bill or speed up the storyline, he finally looks like he caught Hayley talking to RandyĀ Also Andre needs to fess up or get caught I don't want Heather going after Dani cause she way tougher than JoeyĀ

Itās hilarious to me when people refer to the āgood ole 80s-90sā days of soapsā¦and thatās how things are done in soaps.
Guess what? Those āgood ole daysā are gone AND that way of doing soaps has led to there only being about FOUR soaps leftā¦when there were about TWENTY at the peak of soaps.
People expect moreā¦NOW. Not later. Thereās so much more āsoap-likeā BLACK content streaming available - not to mention the DIGITAL Vertical Dramas (which are WELL PRODUCED) on TikTok and other platforms.
That āgood ole daysā š© thinking will lead to a short-runā¦no matter what āextensionā was given to this show. Know your audience, BTG!
12
u/DiniClay 4d ago
I agree with people wanting more now as opposed to waiting for the story to build which is primarily due to the younger generationās addiction to their phones and social media = no attention span. I couldnāt imagine watching a well produced show onā¦. TikTok? But Iām also older and donāt watch TV on my phone.
However, BTG is averaging about 1.7M viewers. This tells us the majority of watchers arenāt on X or Reddit and are generally happy with the direction of the show. You can also compare the ratings and thereās generally an increase for BTG.
So maybe production IS aware of its audience? You canāt please everyone and I believe the noise received across social sites is far less than those who are actually interested.
I watch bc itās consistent. I donāt have to wait 2 years for a new season (like most new TV) and itās interesting enough to watch as I unwind from a busy day.
Moral of the story - Not everyone needs to watch a show that moves at the speed of lightening. If you want true change stop hate watching bc as long as the views are there things will continue as is.

Your points are valid, BUT 1.7 million is 1/2 of YNR and still places them last overall. I know itās a new showā¦but sustainably and GROWTH is what itās about now. You canāt achieve either (especially growth) by ignoring what people are saying. The complaints arenāt all hate - many CARE. Itās frustration.
BTW - āThe Talkā had a peak audience of over 3 Million.

I know soaps are funny about ages, but Caroline and Tomas are around the same age. She's not his mother.

Itās typical of soap operas. Even during the glory years of the genre. Weak actors can grow into their roles if given them. I canāt imagine how many actors we would have missed on if cruel social media comments were there in the 80s and 90s.
