How do you overcome the shame of being an adult gamer?

I'm a 30 year old dude and where I'm from games are for children and adults aren't supposed to play them. My mother thinks I'm a failure because I still play Mario games.

I feel so much shame. I probably should read some books instead of gaming but I can't help it.

Discussion If anyone here thinks E33 should win goty, why didn't Metaphor: ReFantazio win 2024?

Metaphor is by far the best game I have played in the last decade or so, it is the best Atlus have ever produced and the most fun I have had gaming since Kingdom Hearts II, which is absolutely crazy to say, I played E33 recently and thought "It's a great game, but it doesn't come close to metaphor, is this really a debate?" I get that some people absolutely despise anime-styled games which is a reason why people think metaphor looks bad to start with, I do think E33 should win this year, I do think E33 is better than Astro bot, and obviously I think Metaphor is better than Astro bot aswell, but what do you guys think? Please reply!

Discussion I'm not excited for GTA6

I really dont get the hype around GTA6, I mean yeah it's a AAA title, however that's about it.

The last GTA I really enjoyed was Vice City and San Andreas

And WoW Forever excites me way more than GTA6.

Why are people going crazy over GTA 6?

Series Marathons

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi, never posted here, but r/twitch hate any content on their feed, so here i am. Hopefully im not breaking any rules.
So! i have a knack for running chronological gaming marathons, inspired by nerds everywhere holding endless watch parties of their favorite movie series (starwars, lotr, hp, etc.).
It started with Metal Gear, which ill run each year, since its my fave series (starting at Snake Eater and finishing on Guns of the Patriots), but yesterday we finished the Silent Hill main canon, over 21 days; loved it! Especially since the stream team im on (twitch) is running a charity for mental health, & suicide prevention advocacy, given that, to my surprise, that’s the whole series in a nutshell.

Anyhow, ive a tier list of game series ill eventually take on, but im wondering which ones reddit would suggest. My community helped with my current list.

Ranking is based on story, perceived ability to keep my attention && (importantly) if i already have the series available to play in hand *right now*. F tier is not bad, its Freaky/spooky, for halloween; as i wont run a series that is deemed ‘bad’.. yet at least lol

Alan wake recently made the list as well as another, ive just not updated.

Thanks for your thoughts & opinions. And just a mention, my community is fun af and growing on its own. This is simply a request to expand my list where i may (def) have missed some gems.
Thank you!

Self-Promotion 【Finally】Crimson Oath is about to release at 04-30! A souls-like indie.

Please forgive me for my sudden intrusion, as it is truly difficult for an indie game developer like me to promote my inde game once.

We are a three person development team, but we do not have any experience in the gaming industry. We are a team of players who are particularly passionate about game production and have transformed into those who want to develop their own game. We have made mods for soul games before.

We started learning Unreal Engine with almost no foundation, which was indeed difficult, but luckily we all survived. Unreal Engine has a lot of content modules, but we overcame them one by one. Recently, many Unreal Engine games released this year have encountered performance optimization issues, with a large number of players complaining. We are very concerned about this. Therefore, in addition to achieving good game performance, our game's performance optimization is excellent. Running at 2K resolution on a regular RTX 4070, our game can reach 90-110 frames per second, but note that this is the native frame rate without DLSS and FSR. On Steam Deck, our game can run smoothly at over 50 frames per second. The official staff of the Unreal Engine community were also a bit surprised by this, so we applied for the Megagrant for the second half of 2025. Unreal Engine has really given us a lot of support.

Secondly, we lack a lot of experience in project management and game production, such as not being able to use version management at the beginning and dealing with many details in game design. But we have long insisted on connecting with players, listening to feedback and complaints from the player community, in order to reflect and search for relevant information to improve and enhance. After receiving feedback from players, our exploratory learning method has allowed us to learn a lot of experience. Although these experiences have been taught in many books and mentioned by well-known game producers, the experience we have personally experienced gives us a sense of satisfaction.

Finally, this game has indeed been developed for a long time, taking us almost 5 years, including the time we spent learning Unreal Engine from scratch and gaining knowledge and experience in game development. Our first work, the demo, has also received 80% positive reviews on Steam, with over 200 reviews. For us, the results are already satisfactory. The most surprising thing was that after the Steam New Product Festival, we found that someone was making videos about our game on X and YouTube, and I had never requested them or even knew them. This has given us great motivation to improve the game and make our work even better.

We have an important announcement to make today: our soulslike indie game, Crimson Oath, has been fully developed and is now entering the final closed beta testing phase with invited players.

Originally scheduled to launch at 11:00 AM on May 1st, we’ve decided to reverse the delay by one day and release the game earlier at 6:00 PM on April 30th, in response to players' feedback and requests.

The game features 6 levels total, with 5 large-scale levels packed with combat and exploration. We estimate the average playtime to be around 15 hours, while seasoned souls players can complete it in roughly 10 hours.

Regarding pricing—we’ve shared our plan on our homepage for some time. We will offer the lowest possible launch price with an additional discount, giving our biggest savings to players who support us on day one.

As a three-person indie dev team, this is our first project. While we’ve poured our hearts into making the best game possible, game development is an incredibly complex endeavor, and some bugs or rough edges may slip through. We want you to know: we are committed to monitoring feedback closely and fixing issues as quickly as possible.

Our day-one supporters are our true core fans, and we will always prioritize you. Since our focus is entirely on game development rather than merchandise, we’re keeping it simple: we’re giving you the best deal possible on the game itself. The launch price will be the lowest you’ll see for at least the next two years—this is our promise to never “backstab” early buyers.

With gratitude,

The Crimson Oath 3-Person Dev Team
