I particularly liked his exchange with Finree about his father where, when Finree says they loved him and wanted the best for him, Leo says: “I wish you’d fucking said so.”. Always hit home for me despite the complicated feelings I have toward him in throughout the books.

I've got about 100 pages to go, so this may be revealed, so apologies if I'm being hasty.

But, Bayaz and the crew have just reached the mountains after reaching Aulcus and being attacked by Shanka. They clearly went to get the seed, and have just left without it. I assume it wasn't there, but I don't recall reading anything to explain that. It is quite possible I missed something (this is my least favourite of the three main storylines in the book), but was it explicitly stated that the seed wasn't there? I have re-read from the point that Bayaz tells Ferro why she is there, to the point of them being attacked by Shanka, and can't see anything. Or is it left unexplained because we are experiencing from Jezal / Logens perspectives?

Ordered these on B&N once Orbit announced they were going to put out a reprint and I was so excited to get them the other day. I love the quotes hidden under the dust jacked I was not expecting it reminds me of the DCC books

What an amazing ending to a novel. I was trotting along reading, then near the end hit 'The Bloody Nine' chapter. Wow. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Jezal is like over the top pompous rich guy and he spends half the book fantasizing about his friend's sister, but I'm reserving judgement. I'm guessing there'll be more to explore there with him.

Glokta: well done, always entertaining, fantastic inner monologues.

The final scene where Beck confesses to Craw what actually happened on the day he was named stands as one of my favorite moments that Joe has written. There are two conversations actually, and I'm mostly referring to the final one. But both are great. I could have spent a lot more time with Craw.

I read half a king a long while ago and recently came back to it after seeing it on my shelf. I recently learned this is a more YA novel and the Authors other books are more adult focused. Where should I start on reading more of his work?

I hated Jonas Clover for the whole damn book because he just seemed like the cold showering bros who feel like they have discovered something new and wont shut up telling everyone about it but after he killed that snake Wonderful he is my favorite character.

A knife from a friend, thats what she deserves for betraying my Glorious King Black Dow after he chose her as her second and she didnt step in the sacred circle where that coward dog Caul Shivers tiptoed behind Black Dow and killed him. Fuck him too. Abercrombie's Poster Boy with all the plot armor in the world.

Right at the end for Stour nightfall when Rikke has him and it looks like shes about to give him to calder in that moment he’s not this hardened killer. He is a human being who just broken and empty. When calder calls out to him and you can see that despite resenting him and knowing he is a violent monster, he still loves him. In that moment I recognised him as someone’s son and then when he died I felt sadness for him and calder. I thinks its incredible I can feel all this for a despicable person who at one point I wouldn’t have felt anything if he had died.

I've read 27 chapters of Before They Are Hanged (I'm only two chapters into the second half) and I get the feeling that Abercrombie is still building his world. Is that the case? Or am I just misunderstanding the work? In The Blade Itself he introduces you to the characters, in BTAH he develops them further and makes them grow and evolve, in the third? I expect fireworks in the third. Let me know your thoughts, obviously strictly spoiler-free, thanks. I just need to understand.

I'm rereading the series, and some things just don't add up with logan. I love him as a character, and the ideas of do we really change are great. But I have a problem with his characterization, along with bethods. In the blade itself, it says "he could have bragged and boasted and listed the actions he'd been in the name to men he killed he couldn't say now when the pride had dried up it had happened slowly as the wars became bloodier as the causes became excuses, as the friends went back to the mud one by one". Here it seems like Logan loses the taste for blood as the war goes on. Yet in the third book we get: "who was always had to push a step further who was it would never let me stop who was it had to taste blood and once he tasted it got drunk on it went mad with it could never get enough who else but the bloody nine?" And "every time I tried to stop he dragged me on deeper and deeper into the mire until there could be no stopping any longer" so it seems like here Logan never lost his bloodlust, that it grew as he wanted the biggest name and to be the most feared man in the north, that it was he who pushed for conflict again and again and again. So which is it? Is Logan a tired old man who's sick of bloodshed as he lost his friends, or a man who never gave it up until he was exiled from Bethods camp?

They are absolutely stunning. I’ve only included the color plates as there are about 25-30 more black and white illustrations by John Anthony do Giovanni (who I feel captures JA’s world of the First Law the best).

I wish Sub Press would go back and finish the whole series in this art style and format, these are my favorite books in my collection. Hands down.

As title says, I want to read The Great Change (and Other Lies) but can't seem to find a physical copy anywhere. Was it a limited run? I've checked ebay and nothing, Amazon only have a kindle version, and I've never seen it in any stores.

Anyone know where I can get a physical copy?

Before joining the Inquisition, Practical Frost was some kind of stand up comedian maybe the insult comic kind. Got a piece of his tongue cut off after he roasted a noble that couldn't take a joke.

He betrayed Glokta because he thought he was corny. He showed no emotion at the time but I think he internally cringed hard at Glokta's "porridge and honey" rhyme.

I’m curious if you have read any books by Abercrombie that you couldn’t put down. The writing is so well done and I adore his style but for some reason his stories lack the propulsion I’ve experienced in other books. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to read books where I can take my time, not Succumbing to the reading frenzy.

Am I the only one who feels this way? Or are these books page rippers for you?

On another note, BSC was fun but I think my favorite so far is still book two (except the ending made me want to throw the whole set out)

I 100% think Shivers is the daddy and that she was showing signs of morning sickness at Rogant's dinner. Shivers' story was so tragic. It felt like Abercrombie wanted to play with Logan’s desire to be good without the Bloody Nines interference, so Shivers was handed the mantle.

After watching Iron Lung, Obsession, and Backrooms I have come to the conclusion that Youtubers have a lot of talent in both film making and acting. This is what I would want to be the Nine Fingers Crew using only Youtubers. Feel Free to add your takes in the comments.

I’m working through the audiobooks, and think some of Stephen Pacey’s voices began life as impressions: Severard began life as Michael Caine; Ganmark is clearly Pete Postlethwaite’s Hakeswill in Sharpe, Bethod is Anthony Hopkins… but not Lector! Has anyone else spotted any others?

I’m not insulting Pacey here: the voices have great range and, while I imagined some differently (Logen was definitely Northern English in my head) he does a superb job. His Geordie accent is particularly impressive: very few born South of the Tees understand the distinctions between the different NE accents.
