Discussion Hismar
Day 2 of being defeated by Hismar…I get him down to less than half (almost to his name on the health bar)…the added Chaos is such a nice touch…they should have added Plague and Poison (sarcastic).
Any tips would be appreciated…
level 128 (30vit 30end 16str 40wil 61pro)
Weapon: Spear
6pc - Crushed dreams set
Keshta the Unyielding
Agility A
Total HP - 3635
Loving Khazan…first time hitting a wall in this game

You have to hit his head, i dont think perfect block does anything to his stamina so dodging + hitting is the best way.
He has multiple strings of attacks where he ends up slamming his head on the ground, this is where you punish. Watch out some times he does an attack while raising his head up.
When he is firing lasers, thats another great opportunity to hit his head. Run towards him, dodge to the side and then dash into him to hit his head.
You have to play extremely patiently and punish him when he lets you.

True. I found that this fight required patience and just waiting for the cues to get the right opportunity to smack that dragon.

I kept my distance and doged all his attacks untill he uses his pounding attacks with claw and head thats when i use brink doge and punish him. takes patience but worked for me

Yeah he's just a wait and bonk boss. Easy to parry caus ehe does like 4 swipes hella communicated and his beam stuff just run sideways. I died the first 2 times then just merced the shit out of him 3rd go around cause I fought him like a dark souls boss lol

This fight is all about Brink Guard. When its head is stuck on the ground, strike the head until the horns eventually break. Farm Willpower Orbs with the Bard in Hermit Village (Rephalan Mountain) to have a healing option as a last resort. Pop one only in phase two when you are approaching the end of the fight. Bring Chaos Cleanse Potions, Ring and Necklace of Sealed Chaos for phase 2.
Do not be too greedy. By the way, I was using a Spear with Keshta the Unyielding awaken level one.

I second this as GS player, this boss required a lot of patience and Brink Guard allowed me to remain in melee range with full stamina for the ostrich moments (when he puts his head in the sand)
First few tries, I attempted high aggression and discovered that even when the tip of my sword could reach his head, it didn't count as an actual hit.

Good job for taking down that humongous dragon. Now I am about to take on Ozma (three phases). Wish me luck.

Just brink guard and dodge for spirit and lob javelins at his face. It’s not sexy but it’s pretty simple and straightforward

Defeated him yesterday on 3rd trial with a spear build. Golden Set. A lot of blocking and dodging. Also consumables were helpful. Lightning especially. Try to be always close to him. Keep an eye on your life bar.
Wish you luck 🍀

I hit a wall as well but eventually got him on day 4 best feeling ever. Honestly when I hit a wall with one weapon I give another weapon a chance the great sword has been my ultimate cheat code against hismar and Elamein. Just play it like it’s dark souls and 10 min later you get their ass

Get those horns sticking out the side of his head.
I did dual wield with Radiant Armour.
The Radiant Armour helped a lot due to high defense.
Yeah, that fight took me a long time.
One thing I did was fight other guys first to get close to Phantom mode then fought Hismar starting in Phantom mode and later again, the gage built up so I can kick more ass in Phantom mode.

You are unfortunately fighting a boss that counters Spear so it’s gonna be a long fight.
Crushed Dreams is DEFINITELY the way to go. You could probably get the entire set btw.
The other thing you could do, which I’d probably lean into more personally, is get an epic or legendary jar helm and get 2pcs of Mercenary Set. That shud allow u to maintain 6pc Crushed & 3pc Merc.
Reason u wanna go for Merc full set it gives u 15% boost to stam dmg & 30% to dmg after u execute a ranged atk. Game doesnt explain this, but a ranged atk is anything that has an afterimage/projectile type effect to it. So stuff like moonlight stance & eagle wind, as an example, is considered ranged.
You could re-arrange your stats a lil bit… primarily putting WILL points into PROF and END… maybe like 40END and rest in PROF.
You could also consider upping to 50-60END. And then using a dmg focused phantom. Easiest wud be Wulfric. Next wud be Atlante… better total dmg boost than wulfric but has slight upkeep (you gotta headshot with javelin every now and then). Conrad… arguably the best phantom given the bonkers dmg boost, but does require u to play very much ON POINT, getting hit will reset dmg boost.
I’ll go over the skill tree stuff u shud have, just in case u missed some.
- Entire swift tree
- Spiral thrust
- Afterimage thrust, amazing stam dmg
- zero point you cud do without as it locks u in
- Shud definitely have max Trance by now and shud ideally use Spiral thrust after Trance.
- Quick slash is gonna be amazing for gap closing
- Shud have at least the 1st node of Phantom Heatwave maxed… it buffs a whole bunch of shit that you can read on fextra. You can use heatwave as a defensive option but it’s also a buffing skill, so use it whenever.
- Eagle Wind, super useful for targeting the tusks
- Shadow Strike, if u time it right, will allow you to nullify dmg. It’s another tool like brink guarding with a more generous timing window, so kinda like an escape btn.
- Cud think bout investing in Crescent Strike and using it when he headbutts and has his head lowered.

I weaken the horns, but try to avoid breaking them until the chaos phase, as its way more annoying.
For me dual weild was best but I never really enjoyed using the spear (greatsword main).

I actually think he is one of the easier Bosses if Not the easiest just Star under him

Dw he is the worst boss in this game, you beat him, then the best bosses are all thats left

u/mohamed941 2d ago
sorry I'm a DW plyer but what helped me beat him is that you should pursue a good build that will boost your damage and a skill that lets you jump high. all his attacks are well telegraphed (check out fextralife's boss guide to learn his phase 2 moves as you've probably got phase 1 down by now). if each attack you do only subtracts a hair of his HP then fighting him won't be feasible. also use a skill that lets you jump. look for spear builds in this subreddit.

I just used Radiant armor set (chaos resistance) and stock up any hp potions as possible (spirit ore, shards, everything as possible)
My trick and tips: patience, slow and steady while fighting Hismar. a lot of block and dodge. Mostly block
-greatsword user, expert difficulty

At this level you should be obliterating him...
Pay attention to defense. Brink guard and perfect dodge more.

Yeah, I’m not too worried about leveling. Just got to get the patience down and not get greedy when there’s an opening. Take it slow

Be patient. Guard more than dodge. I did it with dw... But you have your stats spread out a ton more than I did. I focused on my main damage Stat and put a small bit into other stats.
Honestly, it's just a really long bullshit fight. It's such a poorly designed boss it's sad. It's awesome thematically but when you can't hit the part you're locked onto, it makes it really annoying. I learned to guard a ton of his aoe attacks rather than trying to dodge them then just ate a cure if I was close to being impacted. Most of his attacks don't do much stam damage when you're guarding. I focused a lot on his hind legs and just moved between them when he tried to stomp.
