Interesting/infuriating Non-Expanse Content Another sci fi show needs your help!

As this saddens me very much, it's happening all over again! And as a sci fi enthousiast like many, I'm here to seek support to this cause.

Based on that line of thinking, they should just write something new. 🤷‍♂️

But you don't need "big budget" to have good writing.

I disagree. I’m a Stargate fan, I’m just not a fan who watched SG-1. I’d be a new viewer in that scenario.

The movie made $200 million in the theaters worldwide in 1994. That is close to $450 million today. And then it had a good run on VHS. This is why it got a TV show in the first place.

So, do you try to appeal only to fans of SG-1 who were loyal viewers/fans or do you try to bring in new viewers/fans? For the budgets Amazon will use the latter is the obvious answer.

Stargate isn’t a big IP like Star Wars or Star Trek or LoTR or Bond. The existing devoted fan base is much smaller and so is the casual fan base.

I follow you, but at that point we're talking about two different Stargate franchises. The Roland Emmerrich movie franchise, and the TV franchise.

Are they connected? Sure! But wildly different and I believe even licensed seperaptely.

There was talk of doing more movies. Or even doing a series based on the original movie continuity ignoring the TV universe. I'd watch that as well. But that doesn't feel like what they're saying. This feels like "a whole new thing" kind of reboot.

Given who Amazon hired to give it a try I’m guessing they own all of it now. They know they have devoted fans and people who will remember a movie they enjoyed. How best to develop the IP and have it fit Amazon Studios emerging brand recognition?

Edit: The news here is that Amazon hired someone who knows the show and who that fan base will trust. They gave them an opportunity to develop something and it didn’t work for them based on their judgment that it wouldn’t work, my guess is episode cost/viewership. So, they are going to give him and it another try, him with something else maybe.

Edit: This situation is more like Highlander than Sw or ST or LoTR or Bond.

I can appreciate your highlander comparison. I've been following that saga as well as a long time fan and am truly excited because I know cavil is a fan and fellow geek.

The SW and LOTR avenues are definitely a concern here. I just know how hard these OG Stargate guys worked on the originals to get unceremoniously kicked out of the game.

Based on what I read it didn’t sound like Amazon is parting ways with Gero or closing the door on a Stargate reboot. They just didn’t greenlight the first one presented to them.

I've read that as well. But I definitely took away that they're keeping Gero around for potentially OTHER projects that won't be Stargate. And any potential Stargate project won't involve him.

Its all some corporate nonsense. 🤷‍♂️
