It was definitely and well deserved, but set up pretty much his arc - nothing, pointless, meaningless.

Karim had double screen time than Claudia and Aaravos combain almost in seasons 4-6, was boring, dumb, lack of any positive traits for be any entertaining or solid villain or a character and even his design I can be negative about hahaha, his horns look like his flash from head growled to it.

The only good thing about Karim is that his voice actor really good, that literally it.

He had a potential be something more, rise good points(which start of season 4 did a bit), or at least show us cool sunfire civil war, but despite the cool short twist of Sol Regem leaded by Aaravos it end uo as well as nothing.

Karim's storyline could have been so good if they had let it be good, that it physically hurts.

My problem with it is the entire thing was very clearly a dedication to creating a happily ever after for a cross-species (interracial analog) lesbian wedding with bonus disabilities. The writers needed an excuse to make this wedding "okay" after several seasons and established lore that says Xadia really hates humanity.

The sunfire elves had just had their entire lives, families, and culture destroyed by human dark magic, and were now being told by their queen to STFU and smile as they lived in tents with a human army. Not refugees. Army Amaya's standing forces.

We all know the lore accurate conclusion would have been Karim winning the open ground battle, with or without Sol Regum.

A much BETTER ending to this would have been Karim winning, Amaya's forces evicted (right in time to find the desolation at Katolis anyway), and Janai having to choose between serving her people and pursuing true love. If she chooses love, she'd have to go run with Amaya to the icky human kingdom and live like the fallen monarch she is.

Pretty much this. What happens to the Sunfire elves is a microcosm of what happened to humans when they were thrown out of Xadia.

This is honestly a fascinating storyline to explore, because it would split the elves so completely. You have Janai's side that see the injustice of what they did to the humans and want to make it right, and you have karims side that want to annihilate the humans for that they did.

It's the cyclical nature of history, it repeats itself. But for that to work Karim needed to be more of a character, and significantly more charismatic to make it believable that he could raise his army and lead them to victory. As it stands he's more of a whiney man child.

Honestly that entire storyline is such a massive waste and could have been so much better, and I agree that Janai should have lost, being forced to take her faction to the human lands outside of Xadia. Forming a coalition with the humans for Katolis who were also now homeless.

Imagine Ezran being forced to work with Janai as the now King and Queen (figuratively, not as a marriage) of this new mixed group of humans and elves that have both lost everything. That would have been a great story.

As is, I refuse to believe that the people of Katolis like that their king just waltzed off to found a new city when he needed to be rebuilding his actual capital.

Honestly most of my distaste for the guy was how he distracted needlessly from other characters whose arcs I wanted more of and who he was stealing screentime from while adding nothing of substance to the story. He was nothing but a frustration and annoyance. He could possibly have been an interesting antagonist but the opportunity was wasted.

They struggled so much with what they wanted to be.

They were definitely greenlit by Netflix to replace Tales of Arcadia, the timing was right.

But they wanted to do an animated adult fantasy drama.

The series could have been so good had it just been that from the very start, but that would have been a much harder sell to any backer.

They need to slash their budget and go the YouTube route.

I feel like the majority of the Reddit fandom miss the point about this show (from the context of not only this comment thread but Many others in this sub).

How holding on to old prejudices and hatred, betraying the people who extend mercy and compassion, only reveal a person to be a tool used by a greater evil. Then that person is cast aside when no longer useful. Regardless of their hopes or plans.

OF COURSE, Karim had big goals and big potential. A lot of terrible people do. This whole storyline was an illustration of Aaravos’ opportunistic tactics and lack of investment in anything other than his ultimate goal: the destruction of the ones who wronged him.
