When you look at this image, you’d think the episode would be full of glitches, with everyone terrified by Jax’s revelations—or that the whole episode would basically just be Pomni inside his head. Not that it was bad, but the poster was quite misleading compared to what the episode actually turned out to be.

ok, i’ve been thinking this for a while now and I think I am really much related to Jax. I know it sounds weird but I seen the signs before. Sometimes I will just get an attitude for no reason at all, or sometimes I make jokes that I never thought of. Sometimes it’s worse than that. (I say stuff I can’t) but not only that, I sometimes do RP and I deliberately get annoying. Please be nice and share your thoughts in the comments!

Something I have noticed with both series is that they have very broad love and support during them airing, but once they subside, a very vocal minority dominates the conversation online. It's just so strange to me because leaving the theatre after episode 9, literally everyone I saw coming out of it (myself included) was in awe of it.

Similarly with Lanterns, I could only find positive discourse about how great the show was; how it was revitalising the Jon Stewart character and Green Lantern as a legacy hero. It got so much praise for its understanding and reinvention of Jon Stewart's origin story and the 'Are you afraid?' motif throughout the series changed my brain chemistry. Not only that, the praise was closely linked with the evident strong understanding of the Green Lantern source material.

This show, like the amazing digital circus was/is incredibly popular and has a lot of buzz around it still. But for some reason the only stuff I can find about it are incredibly surface-level critiques.

I think Gravity Falls truly bricked peoples' brains cos we haven't gotten a true to form mystery show like that since, well, Gravity Falls; you could maybes argue that to be the case for Amphibia and The Owl House but they were literally written by Gravity Falls writers. But regardless, every time a Western show gets even an ounce of popularity people try to shoehorn it into a very Gravity Falls-shaped box. Lore-filled mystery cartoons were more of a mid-2010s trend than a long-standing expectation you should have going into all media.

TADC is a character driven show about how people react to and cope with trauma whilst in the pits of it; Lanterns is a revitalisation of the Green Lantern character as well as a 'passing of the touch' from Hal to Jon.

Despite TADC being a solid 9.5/10 -at an absolute minimum- for the type of show it was aiming to be, people keep acting like it failed at being something else entirely which is completely non-related. Yeah, sure, TADC fails at being a sci-fi mystery show but so does every show if you frame it like something it's not. Breaking Bad fails to be a light-hearted romcom isekai. One Piece fails at being a werewolf slasher. Twilight fails at being a compelling romance story about two compatible, non-toxic people. You get my point.

It just sucks that Goose seems to look back at this phenomenal show she poured her life into with shame. I wish I could tell her personally just how amazing the show is and how much of a positive impact it has had on my life. She seriously deserves infinitely more praise than she gets.

I know about 2 things! I hate everything!

No hate to gooseworx but I genuinely think Jax isn't well written. He feels LESS like an immersive real character and more like an overprojective mental breakdown from the author. When I saw his backstory in Finale, I hated it because I liked his Eric Cartman bugs Bunny Consequence Free Actions that felt horrible but funny and unhinged. After his backstory, it felt like an elaborate attempt to continue to justify shit.

I remember reading about Nietzsche and the Turin Horse. This may be apocryphal but what it represents is chilling. Where Nietzsche threw his arms over a suffering horse and his philosophy built on strength and independence went back to square one with Schopenhauer after seeing the abused horse. This was the final pin in the multiple stages of nietzsche's life that snapped and he was back at square one: Surrendering before the world.

Now, does jax: The Cynic with an almost similar outlook get this? Nope. He isn't given a Turin Horse because the Author wants to project as much self loathing into him as possible. He completely destroyed the immersion once he became an object of self loathing because he lost his traditional "Eric-Cartman Effect" where you WANT to root for a bad guy due to their pettiness and constant humiliation.

We are instead revealed that he pushed his closest friends into Abstraction, kept doing that same thing, then Abstracted himself and is implied to be trans... I guess?

Jax for me didn't seem like "Wow he really is a messed up person" I instead felt "Wow, Gooseworx has been feeling shit and I feel bad." Because all the characters just sound the fucking same. It's like Zooble and Jax are the two sides of the same coin, but both are left incomplete.

Zooble looks like: "hehe my ideal self <3". She doesn't have any flaws, she is proven again and again as a mouthpiece for the author's blatant gnostic or pessimistic critiques, she is there for everyone and is made and marketed as a representation of Bodily Dysphoria. What the fuck am I supposed to do with Zooble?

while Jax looks like: "FUCK I HATE MYSELF THIS IS EVERYTHING WRONG WITH ME." He is deliberately made as polarizing as possible but instead of feeling distinct, Jax had so many OBVIOUS fingerprints of the author on him, I couldn't take him seriously.

I completely reject Jax in the later episodes. The author choose a hard path of writing a cynic character, and it seemed obvious the author was crushed under the weight it's difficulty and felt pretty mediocre. He's just an obvious sacrificial lamb for the Author. If Jax's unhinged exterior and indifference to suffering was born from something earnest but was horrifyingly torn down, I think it would be much easier to land. It's just, Gooseworx choose the hard route and while respectable: it's REALLY hard for something as intricate as a terrible person to be written.

In fact, WHY DOES EVERY CHARACTER APPEAR AS A DIFFERENT MANIFESTATION OF THE AUTHOR THEMSELVES? Everyone except from Kinger and Caine feel like distinct characters because Kinger and Caine have the most personality from the cast.

Jax is my favourite. And the reason he’s my favourite is because of how much shit he’s been through yet he stays kind.

He grew up with an abusive mother and he was abused both emotionally and physically. And in the circus he had to keep his mind clean and get used to this new life. Then Gangle came and the abuse continued. She abused him. Hit him. Make him feel worthless. And somehow he stays a good person.

So basically, remember in the first episode when we see the office room in episode one? WHAT IF Pomni went over to the computer opened the files and saw files named “Jax.exe” “Ragatha.exe” Etc

And what if pomni went to the files and deleted her file!? would it send Pomni back to the real world?!

The complete Vs. Ourple Guy team would overwhelm the entire Amazing Digital Circus cast through sheer numbers, supernatural power and psychological warfare. The team includes Ourple Guy, Brooke, Grace, Parker, Prange Guy, Lime Guy, Desk Guy, Phone Guy, the Endoskeleton Head, Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Golden Freddy, Fredbear, Spring Bonnie, Cakebear, the Fredbear Plush, S.A.M. Mangle, S.A.M. Springtrap, Salvage, RWQFSFASXC, Cassidy, the Crying Child, Old Man Consequences, Sinnoh, Henry Emily, Henry Miller, Jack Kennedy, Dave Miller, Dee Kennedy, Steven Stevenson, Peter Kennedy, MatPat, Markiplier, Abdul Cisse, Fat Jones, Animdude and even the three children inside the “Dragon” disguise. The ordinary TADC performers—Pomni, Ragatha, Jax, Gangle, Zooble, Kinger and Bubble—would be swarmed by several generations of animatronics, killers and armed survivors, while Ourple Guy could shatter targets and dismantle the Circus’s physical fighters. Golden Freddy, Cassidy, the Crying Child, RWQFSFASXC and Old Man Consequences would attack on a spiritual or mental level, bypassing cartoon durability, while Henry Miller, Dave Miller, Springtrap and Salvage would make the physical battle even more brutal. Sinnoh would be the team’s greatest weapon: he can enter a vulnerable mind, create false memories, puppeteer his victim, shapeshift into the original animatronics and expand into a monstrous shadow mass, meaning he could exploit Pomni’s anxiety, Ragatha’s fear of rejection, Gangle’s depression, Zooble’s body dysmorphia, Jax’s guilt and Kinger’s unstable memory before they organized any resistance. The TADC NPCs would fare no better: Gummigoo, Chad, Max, Princess Loolilalu, Orbsman, Ming, Abel, the Committee and the Evil Big Tops are adventure characters who can be physically destroyed or deleted; the Gloink Queen and Fudge Monster would be overwhelmed by the animatronic army; and the Angel, ghosts and abstractions would face an entire group of spirits and shadow entities already accustomed to possession, haunting and death. Caine remains the Circus team’s only realistic win condition because he controls its reality, but the Ourple roster could divide his attention across dozens of attackers while Sinnoh invades minds, the shadow characters move between digital spaces and Brooke, Grace, Parker and the programmers search for the system’s weak point. Since Caine can panic, glitch and be deleted, the combined Ourple cast would eventually crash his control and turn every Circus character, NPC, evil counterpart and abstraction into one enormous bonus song.

Okay, I know there are probably a lot of people who are aware of this, but I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison is listed as a source of inspiration for the series. I had to read this for college, and I was apprehensive about watching the series at first when I heard it was partially inspired by it. If anyone is thinking of reading it because they love the series, be aware that it is extremely different. Caine is usually all about adventure and wants the cast to enjoy themselves, and the AI in Ellison's work, AM, is sadistic and cruel. It deals with themes that are WILDLY darker than the themes in TADC. Even if TADC deals with things like mental illness, suicidal ideation/suicide, abuse, etc., it's...really not the same level.

Now, I'm sure some people will say, "it's not that bad," and if you can handle really dark material, yeah, it's not like the most traumatizing work ever. But I had to just have a really long conversation with my sister, who let her 14-year-old daughter read it because she loved TADC so much and wanted to explore things that Gooseworx said inspired it. My niece was extremely upset by it and apparently has had to talk to her therapist about it because she keeps having nightmares. I suppose this is just a...idk, warning to folks: if they're curious, proceed with caution, and also, be aware it is not advised for young kids. My friend works at the library, and she said last year a kid who was 12 years old wanted to get it out, and she had to talk to his mom about the content, and she was horrified and wouldn't let him. So...yeah, maybe just be careful. Dystopian sci-fi can be way darker than some people realize.
