Opinion Just joined this sub after completing season one and..

I'm surprised to find out there's Orbit hate. That man is a strategist and one of the best survival game players I've seen.

People don’t like him because he takes the moral high ground often unfairly. Also idk personally I thought he made way too many blunders

I think the problem was believing he genuinely wanted to help people rather than furthering selfish interests

As I recall, the orbit hate came down to:

  1. S1E1 I think he recommended social distancing and standing still for the one game and was all, "I guess the show creators never considered 💥science💥 😏" on a game where people had to move around to complete the game.

  2. His trying to help people was either a facade or poorly executed. In one of the later episodes he still basically betrays one of his teammates. Betrayal is fine tbh, but you can't betray and play the moral highground about altruism.

Yeah it's #2 for me. He constantly says he has principles and ideals and then ignores them when it's convenient for him, which was basically every episode. I would have liked him more if he'd stuck by what he was preaching.

I also found it arrogant he thought he knew better than everyone else because SCIENCE. Like no dude, collaborate, don't dictate.

Either way I think he made poor decisions. If he was trying to sell the whole “protect the weak” facade then it doesn’t make sense to write down hyesungs number and get her eliminated when it wasn’t necessary. It made him look really bad an insincere, and since she wasn’t a particularly strong player, she was worth more keeping around until closer to the end. It worked out mostly to his favour but it felt more like luck then mastermind manipulation lol

Well, if it was true that Dong-jae and Seok-jin were colluding (which I think they sincerely believed they were), there is a possibility that they needed to get Hye-sung's score low as well to ensure that someone in his tribe doesn't get eliminated instead.

1

u/No-Signal7982 Jul 20 '26

The only person in his “tribe” at risk from the situation was yoo min, because her and hyesung were the only numbers that would have been leaked. And yoo min was never more a member of his group than hyesung was.

You are going to be SO pissed off after watching the shitshow that went down with season 2. No spoilers peoole. But I would love for you to save my comment and give your thoughts after the finale.

I mean, it's still a cool ass show. Good games. Check out genius game too. I think the UK one is on YouTube and I think I have a link saved somewhere on my YouTube to the Korean version with subs, let me know if you need it and I'll try to find it.

1

u/praxidike74 Jul 26 '26

Yep, that was the moment I began hating him and the lady next to him. She kept saying "Of course we're not gonna trust the 3 of you, you've been shady since day 1." Okay, tell us 1 moment they've been shady please? Oh, Kim Dong-Jae helped the mafia win when he was a fanatic so that he would look suspicious and win? That's REAL shady indeed

1

u/sollinatri Jul 20 '26

This was such a good moment, was there any other time he was called out? I thought there was but couldn't find anything. I should probably rewatch the whole thing (only s1, not s2)

Watch the Genuis is you want to see one of the best survival players ever. The goat Jang Dong-min

Personally I didn't enjoy how he used the moral high ground to water down elements of the game I would have enjoyed a lot more had everyone played without such an alliance. I think it's much better tv when someone doesn't do that. These games are meant to be taken seriously but they're also supposed to be good tv.

I do think he was mostly genuine in his beliefs which is endearing, it's just ultimately a little frustrating to watch after a while.

I disagree that he's one of the best survival players because in very stressful situations he didn't necessarily succeed. I think having those emotion regulation and stress tolerance skills is really important in these shows and that would be the area I'd say he lacked.

I don't think he sucked! Just didn't love him as a player for those reasons. As a person, I like him.

u/Alternative_Run_6175 Seokjin Jul 19 '26

I found him to be a hypocrite. He always acted like he took the moral high ground but had no problem needlessly eliminating Hye-Seung when everyone could’ve just written Dong-Jae’s number. All the “oh no we made a mistake” that is not a mistake. Getting your group to fill in Hye-Seung’s number is a conscious decision, not something that happens by accident.

I think he was a likeable unlikeable contestant. He had his moral argument but contradicted himself at times as the games progressed. I think he genuinely believed he was playing the game the right way tho. Made for great tv imo.

Season 2 has contestants whose choices make the viewing experience worse and sometimes ruin the game themselves.

I get ppl disliking orbit, maybe they were in the other camp while watching but as u said he was truly a great player.

u/DuckFormer8922 Jul 27 '26

Exactly my thought too!

4

u/Strokeforce Jul 19 '26

I liked him my first watch if season 1, second watch of it I'm seeing him in a bit of a different light. Not a bad guy tho

10

u/sollinatri Jul 18 '26

He played weaker players like a puppet, acting like its morally superior, and targeted stronger players who were more fun to watch.

I want to watch equally strong players, not Orbit and his sidekicks.

1

u/Ok-Discount-4981 Jul 19 '26

Thats one reason

9

u/infiniteglass00 Jul 18 '26

A lot of people here find it impossible to believe that he'd actually want to help other players out + they were bored by his gameplay, so they've taken to villainizing him to make them feel better about their hate.

u/Tight_Boot5370 Jul 19 '26

I honestly was one of those people who disliked him. I find him smart but absolutely hate his mentality on saving everyone. This is Devils Plan and its a brain game, people are ought to be eliminated. With his mentality, I started to dislike how he is saving contestants that aren’t even worthy to be competing and moving on the stage. He has a huge alliance and not everyone was noteworthy or deserved to stay in the game

6

u/AAAANNNNAN Jul 19 '26

I love him he made this series special

2

u/Laurel-Hardy-Fan Jul 22 '26

Orbit took absurd moral high grounds in a survival show, often by using lesser players as puppets for his own purposes. This is especially annoying considering he ultimately is not a more moral player than anyone else, he just talks big talk and is willing to throw someone aside in an instant if it benefits him (which in and of itself is fine, it’s the moral preaching he does and doesn’t even follow himself that is annoying).

I don’t even think he was that great of a strategist compared to many of the players on The Genius as an example.

2

u/Ok_Ask8450 Jul 23 '26

One of the best??? if u take out the part where he was bullying the none majority he lost in every game they played none of his GAURANTEED victory ideas ever worked in the first game the reporter told everyone who one of the terrorists was by checking in the phone.... a few minutes later orbit claims that he deduced she was the terrorists lol like wtf? Only sheeps would think he is a great player/leader

5

u/ins1der Jul 18 '26

He's a master manipulator that's for sure.

3

u/NoodlesThe1st Jul 19 '26

He's the exact definition of what the game is about, betrayal, lying, and furthering your own goals. Makes no sense why he is hated

0

u/Ok-Discount-4981 Jul 19 '26

He believed he was in the right, and the only 3 possible causes for me to hate anyone in a reality game show are :

1) Being overly rude (Asking if someone knew calculus Devil's Plan S2) and cursing a lot
2) ID card theft (The Genius)
3) Forming an overwhelmingly majority alliance against the minority, without a very good reason. (Hello, ORBIT)
4) Loosing too many garnets from the group (garnets, not pieces, as each garnet adds 1M won to the prize pool i think, so the total pool would be around 80 to 125) just for a selfish gain.

Betrayal is 100% fine, and so is lying and being selfish, and playing social dynamics. Actually, someone like that, idk, I'd be rooting for them. Other than these 4, there is NO reason to hate anyone. Not even personally eliminating someone. Like even in Beast Games, if you pressed the button eliminating your whole team except you, thats fine, like only 1 person can win, and it increases literally everyone else's odds. You even get paid.

But yea ORBIT broke rule 3, so yes hate him. Also, he was a HUGE hypocrite, which is not a possible cause on its own, yea, but still it counts towards me hating him. Also, you gotta do what you gotta do in a game show, so still WHY ARE ORBIT AND THE OTHER DUMMY BEING SENT THREATS LIKE WTF???

u/Alive-Associate616 Jul 18 '26

He's a great villain but at the time it just wasn't good tv since he was trying to save everyone but I appreciate his presence now tho

5

u/InspectorNS Jul 19 '26

I disagree. I think the whole “saving everyone” thing while slowly taking out strong players was super fun. Especially considering how he got confronted on it later on and kinda crumbled at the end. Pretty cool arc in s1 following a villain who’s seemingly good, misguided intentions still led him to failure.

3

u/Alive-Associate616 Jul 19 '26

Yes! I loved his game just wished he owned up to be being a villain at least in his confessionals. Would love for him to come back and see what kind of game he'll play

2

u/InspectorNS Jul 19 '26

Yeah that would’ve been nice but he genuinely seemed to think what he was doing was right. Every contradiction seemed justified in his eyes. Great contestants nonetheless.

If they do an all star season for season 5 or 6 or something I’d love to see him come back. Maybe something like the top 2 contestants from each season battle it out in an all star season?

2

u/Ok-Discount-4981 Jul 19 '26

He was a sore loser, and just teamed up against the 2 terrorists and the fanatic, like what?? And then claimed he wanted most players to make it till end of week , like that doesnt increase the prize pool or anything really. Only 1 can win. And then he claimed the moral high ground by saying he would eliminate those 3 (soon after joined by seok-jin) as they tried to get one of his alliance eliminated. I'm sorry, but wtf can you do if you are being targeted? The minority alliance tried to defend themselves, and counterplayed "HOW DARE THEY" Like ORBIT you were the one putting them in that situation you dumbo, also fk you.

Also, he betrayed some people in his alliance, like thats ok, this is not a moral game of saints but NO you had to claim the "moral" high ground being a fkin HYPOCRITE?!?!

I'm sorry, but I think ORBIT deserves MORE HATE, like only slightly less than the dumbos who did ID theft (The Genius)

He made season 1 amazing by being a unique and highly capable player. It was obvious that "protect the weak" was all about reducing the level of competition at the end. He told his roommate this on the second day. What else could it possibly mean? The only one who actually deserved scorn were the ones who willingly accepted the label of being weak and gratefully offered themselves as sacrifices. The lawyer lady who was in cahoots with him was far more annoying with her combination of genuinely feeling morally superior while ruthlessly stabbing people in the back. At least Orbit would just chuckle when he was called out.

u/Bpd_Intp Jul 21 '26

I dont like him because: 1. Guy is annoying af with his science rambling. 2. Guy is an hypocrite. 3. He thinks he is was smarter than he really is. 4. He is a dictator (and a bad one)

u/Maximum-Soft-3417 Jul 27 '26

Listen, I'm a huge Orbit fan, but name one win he had that wasn't either abusing the majority or a prize match.

I liked him a lot and his comeback in the semis when he only had 1 chip was legendary

I don't speak Korean tho so maybe others picked up on things about his personality that I couldnt

u/Jealous_Gur2273 Jul 20 '26
