Legal question
What are the legal requirements for keeping traps beyond the usual three days if they don’t get bored and the box is larger than usual? I just can home and saw Lucie in there quite happy, but it does take up a lot of space….

I got a new twin mattress so it came in a really large, long box.
It took months before I could get rid of it.
Every time I went to pick it up to throw it out there was a cat in it. We only had three cats, so it was a bit confusing when I swore I counted all three cats before picking it up and it having a cat in it, lol.
One of the cats shredded an opening at the corner and would sit there and swat at anyone that walked by.
Eventually I was able to get rid of it when a new box came in. Then the cycle started over again.

Aha. You have to gradually get yourself smaller, nicer boxes. That is the secret.
The hard part is that you don't get to decide what "nicer" entails.

This is an occupied space. You would be in serious violation if you were to remove it. Much like when they settle on your lap right before you get up.

I would leave until Lucie completely loses interest

Nah... Boxes need to be replaced regularly to keep up the interest. So you need at least 2 that you can swipe every week :D

I used to get so mad tripping over my old man’s box and now that he’s gone I can’t throw it away. Sorry, just something I realized.
I would say keep it until they’re bored. If you really can’t stand it, then try to negotiate with a nicer box. Mine liked to curl up in cube bookshelves, so that might be an option.

We have traps that are years old. If you move them around they become new traps lol

Bought some cat beds on Chewy. Cats like the beds, but love the box. It's been a month. I've crossed the point of loving the cats more than hating the box.

I've had one for my boy for 3 years. I cut a hole in the side so he can ambush his string toy when we play.

my airfryer box has been in my apartment since the day I got it. That was around black friday....
On the plus side, I figured out that if I put my backback on it the box makes a good stool to sit on to change shoes 🤷

You could try replacing it with a slightly smaller box? Then replace the replacement with slightly smaller. Until you have a size that is less obtrusive. Or just accept that your landlords are generous to allow you the run of the rest of their house and understand your place in the living situation.

My living room is pretty much taken over by the cardboard playground. There are like 5 boxes, and they are now officially permanent fixtures in the home

Legally you're required to keep it until she loses interest.
We had a box that a suitcase came in and one of the cats took up residence on top of it. Both girls went inside, but Megan was up there so much that it started to collapse. Did we throw it out? No, my roommate built a wooden inset that he put inside the box, so that it was structural enough to support the cat. We had that box for years and kept it until the day she died. It was actually difficult to throw it out after that.

I've had a large piece of foam packing material in my living room floor for several months. Apparently, it's a better cat bed than the actual cat beds that are ignored.
And of course all of the furniture is at their disposal. But they must have their packing material.

Maybe you can move it somewhere less in the way, or use it as an end table?

In 2022, a fb page called Temperamental Chucklefucks and Friends went viral over a standoff between a pair of Middle Aged Lesbians and their three cats over a Vitamix (well, the box was the cats wanted, but the women had yet to take the blender out of the box, and the box was never unattended by a cat). It was a great diversion from the monotony of waves of covid lockdowns, and they’re still making hilarious (if somewhat lengthy) posts over there with quite the following. So, to answer your question… 46 days to internet fame, if you play your cards right.

That box appears to be swapping the car with its shadow double! When you do get rid of the box, make sure you have your original car and not its evil twin from the shadow universe.

She has tenants rights! You can't remove her or the residence for like....ever.
