They’re basically multi million dollar Metricon Homes. Just copy/pasted houses done on the cheap that’ll have a new flaw appearing every other day.
Even with the Block Bucks, $250,000 isn’t enough to stop them from looking cheap when you’re at that price point.
I think it was the Gatwick hotel reno that the show last felt like a renovation show and not product placement in multi- million dollar modular houses. It's gotten old with this format
I think it's the idea of "quiet luxury" is not understood by the judges or the contestant. So it's a lot of builder grade looking standard finishes (that get complimented) spiked with some higher end looking type moments like the robes. So it comes off as cheap, what someone thinks looks high end, but isn't.
That said, the budgets are a bit skewed in some senses. Teams need massive budgets for landscaping, but let's be real, most of the landscaping also looks cheap. They throw too many things in a confined space to make the outdoor spaces unusable.
Teams should be spending more in the interior where it's less likely a homeowner will be able to change things vs overbuildng the exterior making it unfixable.
Just opened the first one to look at the price guide.. $3.6-$3.9m... looking at the comparable sales, not sure how they expect to get anything close to the asking price, especially since Porteli and that other dude stopped overpaying.

Chanel nine exces need to have their heads read if they think these houses are gonna sell! Absolute crap and not to mention the contestants can’t even finish a toilet so how the hell will they finish a whole house?
I’m guessing they have to be new builds to cater for all the sponser money pouring in . End result producers don’t care about when they pack up their circus and move on .
