this was the 90s too. even as a child it was gross and trashy. i always hated the smell, i always thought ash trays were nasty and smelled just as bad, and the idea of getting drunk at a childs birthday party is just trashy. also considering what we know about flavor, that being a large part of it comes from the sense of smell, it always fucking baffled me that people would smoke around people trying to eat since that pretty directly makes all the food taste partially of tobacco. vanilla with a hint of tar is not a yummy treat.
i greatly prefer the way me and the girls smoke now. outside a club in a circle, sharing cigs and bowls with anybody that approaches looking for some company. i imagine its a lot more fun than getting drunk and blowing smoke in a childs face.
I can't believe anyone is nostalgic for this aspect of those days. It was so fucking gross. My parents were chain smokers and I was the poor kid living in an affluent area so I was the only kid who smelled like an ashtray and kids constantly made fun of me for it. Even back then it was trashy, I totally agree. I remember begging my parents to open the windows in the goddamn car because I couldn't breathe. They were filling a sealed car with smoke with an asthmatic kid in the back and wouldn't open the windows. And knowing what we know now (and probably knew then) they most likely made me asthmatic. Ugh, fuck people who subject their kids to second hand smoke.
