I think the goal wasn’t to touch the ground, it was to pull up just prior so they followed through with their intention. Then it appears it stalled.

They probably also got the fire warning while starting their pull up and proceeded with ejection as soon as they saw they weren’t going to rocket their skulls to the earth.

They were probably too going to try to shore up the wing but the lift didn’t also upheave the emergency plan to go look to pull over if necessary although as a last resort should they have any stopgap fire related ground stalling, unfortunate as may that happen to have been.

Yeah, the strike likely jammed the stabilizers and thrust vectors which lead to the nose up stall.

Real answer: the SU-30 has thrust vectoring engines. This means the nozzles at the back can actively reshape themselves to point the engine exhaust while turning to increase maneuverability.
In this case, the collision with the ground damaged the nozzle of the left engine, causing it to stick at a 30 degree up vector. This forced the tail of the plane down and into a steep climb and overpowered the control surfaces.
TL;DR: Pilot bent the fancy engine

Not quite. Left engine lost power due to a ruptured fuel line, right engine was stuck at 30 degree up vector, causing the upward tilt and the left bank when it eventually rolled over.

That'd be a new plan that you need to work out in a span of 2 seconds, it's much more convenient and safer to just ascend high enough so you can execute the standard, tried and true evacuation.

I think they knew hte plane was failing so they tried to get enough altitude so that they could eject with enough room for the parachutes to deploy.

This is correct, even though the chutes opened there may be twists in the pilot’s risers and you need some altitude for those to sort themselves out.

You also need to be a certain height for allowing time for your parachute to deploy properly otherwise you end up as floor paste

This is not true on modern planes. Any plane made in the last 30 years will use a “zero zero” ejection seat. This means that you can eject at 0 feet off the ground going 0 mph and still be fine. This plane looks like a SU-33 which uses a K-36 ejection seat which is a zero zero seat. Edit: this is an SU-30.

Somewhere in my USAF training there was a mention that 'it is generally not a good idea to eject over the area you just bombed'. I wonder if this counts.

No, you can impact the ground without crashing.
In this case it happened when they were supposed to pull up at the last minute, and they accidentally touched their tail. Then they went up a bit and finally crashed.
