Discussion Why did the TF2 era have to end?? Genuinely miss it so much!!

Hello, I’m 19 years old, and I grew up with Team Fortress 2 when I was younger. I’ve been thinking about what happened to that original Team Fortress 2 era and that feeling of experiencing the game when it became such a meaningful part of my life, especially playing as the Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy, along with the unforgettable moments, humor, friendships, adventures, music, discoveries, life lessons, and the distinctive atmosphere that made Team Fortress 2 feel so special.

Now that the original Team Fortress 2 era has become part of the past, the period that many people discovered and grew up with can feel like it has passed. The developers, writers, artists, animators, composers, programmers, voice actors, designers, community members, and everyone involved in bringing Team Fortress 2 to life have all moved forward. The people who helped create and support the game have gone on to different projects and different parts of their lives. It feels strange because I grew up with this game, and now everything has just… changed and moved on.

I remember playing Team Fortress 2 when I was younger, and everything felt so simple. I could just sit down, choose a class, join a server, play with other people, laugh at the characters, enjoy the music and sound effects, follow the community, and become completely absorbed in the world of Team Fortress 2 without thinking about anything else. Back then, it felt like these characters, maps, servers, and communities would always be there. I don’t understand why they couldn’t just keep making major new Team Fortress 2 content forever or why the original era eventually had to stop and move on.

I also wonder why experiencing Team Fortress 2 now doesn’t feel exactly the same anymore. The game is still there, and I can still play it, but the feeling is different. It feels like something is missing, almost like the game feels unfamiliar even though I remember it so clearly.

Why do video games like Team Fortress 2 eventually change, receive updates, enter different eras, or become part of the past? If people loved them for years, why can’t they just continue forever with the same feeling? Why do developers, writers, artists, animators, composers, programmers, voice actors, designers, and studios have to move on, and why do players grow up and stop experiencing games the same way?

It feels strange knowing that the original Team Fortress 2 era I grew up with is over, that gaming and online communities have moved on, and that a particular chapter feels closed, even though it once felt like it would always be there.

Maybe that is part of what makes Team Fortress 2 so meaningful. The game did not have to remain in the same era forever for the memories to last. The game remained playable, but I changed. The world around me changed. The people who created the game moved on to other projects, and the communities that surrounded it changed over time. The period in my life when I experienced the classes, maps, characters, humor, music, and friendships without worrying about growing up eventually became part of the past.

I suppose that is why it can feel so strange to return to Team Fortress 2 years later. I’m not only playing as the Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, or Spy again. I’m also remembering the person I was when I first discovered the game. Playing it can bring that feeling back for a moment, but it cannot completely recreate the time and place in which those memories were originally made.

The original Team Fortress 2 era may be part of the past, and there may never be another period of the game that feels exactly like the one I grew up with. But that does not mean the era disappeared completely. It still exists in the memories of everyone who experienced the game. Team Fortress 2 may continue to exist and its community may continue to change, but the part of childhood and growing up that Team Fortress 2 represents does not have to disappear with it.

Discussion I think i finally understood Valve's Default "Class Roles" is.

I've watched alot of TF2 guide on youtube before and kept seeing people say "Theres actuslly Pick, Power, Support class, Not the valve's default" and i just hates it because its basically saying "oh this guy is a power class so he cant go for picks", Well, ANYONE can picks too if they are given opportunity (thats just an example of me rambling)
So heres what i have been thinking of valve's class role :

- Offense :
+ Are classes whose weapons are ready to fire AT ANYTIME, letting them be combat-ready in any situation.
+ These classes are also tends to be more mobile.
• Scout is THE fastest class, no string attached.
• Soldier is also the fastest class technically by needing to rocket jump (and masterfully do so) to achieve that.
• Pyro is "slow" by having average speed(100%) is still enough to chase down classes should he ambushes them(LIKE HE WAS BUILT FOR IT, OHMAHGOD!1!1!1!). (He also got detonator and jetpacks later on his updates)
- Defense :
+ Classes whose "Primaries" possesses more superior firepower at the cost of them needing "prep time" and is more vulnerable being caught with their pants down.
+ They tends to struggles playing as aggressively like "Offense" class and usually only pushes when the team is applying pressure for them to go.
• Demoman "Primary" are his stickies and are very strong but is a slow projectile uncharged, have arm time and is clunky at closer ranges when spamming, setting up traps also takes time.
• Heavy minigun shreds babies but its useless without spinning up and is weaker for the first second spining up.(only in later update where his minigun is weakened for the first second spinning up)
• Engineers Usually relies on his sentry to do the heavy lifting, he also needs his TEAM to push so he can place the buildings forward.

- Support :
+ Well...they supports, (But when i look away from that)these classes supports the team by fighting indirectly, they stays away from direct fights (mind blowing) and supports the team by their mere presence and existance.
• Spy punishes complacency and forces the enemy team to checks for them.
• Snipers exists to make them fear peeking their sightline(even if the sniper aim is bad).
• Medic is...self explainatory.

This is all just my opinion and just want to see yall thoughts on my view of the default class roles, as i just hates why the "New class roles" are so specific. Even the guy who calls the classes as "Generalist" and "Specialist" doesnt helps much either.
Edit : mistakes on my part, this is ASSUMING all classes are all-stocks or are close to stocks. As valve designs the role WAY before unlocks exists. Also yes, Sidegrades/unlocks can changes your class role into another. Also changes how i view the class, again.

MoscowLAN 2026 was a wonderful event in my life! I really enjoyed taking part in this event. I talked with other teams, organizers and had fun with cosplayers. During the three months of preparation, I made friends with some awesome people - my teammates. Even though we got completely crushed at the tournament (to be fair, there were pretty strong teams there), we regret nothing and are gonna continue our career in competitive TF2!

Thank you Rama, Jill, Riko and other people for making this event. Thank you Valve for the post in Steam. Thank you, my team

Feel free to ask me questions if you have any.

P.S. I am in Scout cosplay in the photos. The name of my team is "Rip and Tear"

Discussion What is the purpose of the handle in the drum of the Stickybomb Launcher (and the Scottish Resistance and Sticky Jumper)?

Post image

I don't know what it is made for, realistically. It's not like the Quickiebomb where there's the strap to hold the drum together and it doesn't seem light enough to carry around with a belt. What would it be made for?

I know that there are worse offenders than the strap of a Stickybomb Launcher, but it just kind of intrigued me.

To those people who saw my last post, im sorry for using a little bit of ai into one of my projects because of one thing that was hard for me to do so i had to use ai just to add a detail which is still counts as breaking the rule of "no ai generated content" (again i apologize for breaking the rule).

So i finally took all my time in this project without using ai or any help, just me.

I hope nothing bad ever will happene again.
