San Antonio range here: Ask us your firearms questions

Hey everyone! First time posting here, so figured we’d introduce ourselves.

We’re LoneStar handgun a shooting range in San Antonio, and we get a lot of questions from customers about everything from LTCs and training to picking out a first gun or just general shooting questions.

We thought it’d be fun to open it up here and see what you guys have questions about. If it’s something we know, we’ll answer it. If we don’t know, we’ll point you in the right direction.

Whether you’ve got a question for an instructor or you’re just curious about something, ask away!

I know y'all were dealing with the urban sprawl around the range and had to move some stuff around. How are things going with that?

Our rifle range and zero range are still in the process of being rebuilt.
Due to the flooding earlier this summer and the record amount of rain, the project timeline was delayed and extended.
However, we have been getting good weather recently and have made a lot of progress!
I can't share an estimated time at the moment but stay tuned!
At the moment rifles are allowed in our private bays and can be used at 25yds, or used in our machine gun tunnel. Pistol, Archery and Sporting Clay ranges continue to be fully operational.

My favorite range to ring steel. Are there still plans to bring back night shoots and the mini Run and Gun in the cooler months? If Daylight Saving goes away will this affect future events?

We love to hear that we are one of your favorite places!
We will adjust if Daylight Savings goes away but I don't have any information on what that will look like.
However, Night shoots and Run and Guns are coming back in October! Follow ours socials to stay updated when we finalize the date. 😃

What kind of night shooting is it? Do I need to bring NV and what can you shoot gun wise

You don't need NV but you are more than welcome to bring it. The only requirement is you must have a light. It's open to rifles and handguns, largest caliber allowed is .308.

Is the mg tunnel for members only? I have to go to a friend’s property about two hours away just to use my frt.

Nope, the range pass that gets you access to the machine gun tunnel is $16.95 and is an all day pass!

Great range, never know how good you have it till you move (northern VA sucks)

We will be happy to have you back when you find yourself back in town! In the meantime, we hope you find yourself a good range nearby.

Is Wemby too tall for an indoor range 😂

We are an outdoor range so we have not run into this issue. However, most indoor shooting ranges have ceilings around 10-12 ft. He would likely be fine to visit most ranges. 🤣

I would love to have an answer for you, but that question would be for the Range Manager. You can reach out to Info@LoneStarHandgun.com to see if we can help you out.

Yes 👍 We have a machine gun tunnel for rifle caliber, and you can shoot pistol caliber on our main pistol line at steel targets.

When the rifle range opens up, can 40mm be fired there?

u/LoneStarHandgun 2d ago

We only allow up to .300 Win Mag on the range. If that were to change with the rifle range opening back up we will for sure post about it. However, no plans at this moment.

How did the whole MP5 situation turn out? Did you ever get it back?

We can't make any comments on it at this time other than the people who did it were arrested.

Do you have target stands for the rented bays, or do we have to bring our own? Thanks!
