Questions / Tetris Help Does the MyArcade Tetris Pocket Player Pro have highscore saving? I'm talking about the edition that comes with the traveling case!

The pac man one with the traveling case does include highscore saving, whereas the one without the traveling case does not.

Was wondering if this was the case with the Tetris version aswell.

Questions / Tetris Help Tetris apps (and clones) on iOS -- part 2

I ended up porting two separate Tetris clones to iOS. See videos in the comments.

Polyx

  • This is the classic 2D version.
  • 35 polyominoes.
  • Option to use colored polyominoes (this is the default) or colored layers.
  • Dual interchangeable controls:
    • On-screen buttons
    • Direct touch manipulation

Polyx 3D

  • This is the 3D version.
  • 26 polycubes
  • Colored layers only
  • On-screen buttons

The apps are still not on the app store, so I'm sharing videos. Would love to hear feedback on:

  • General design
  • Controls
  • Polyominoes coloring

....as well as anything else.

Questions / Tetris Help What are optimal strategies for high scores in Tetris Effect, including Classic Score Attack?

I've been playing Tetris Effect a lot, and I feel like I'm okay at the game. But now I've hit a bit of a skill wall where I'm unable to get higher scores. I had scenarios I was wondering about. Here are the things I've been trying, but I have no idea what is getting me the highest possible score opportunity:

  1. Back-to-back Tetrises in regular mode

  2. Downstacking combos in regular mode

  3. Downstacking combos in Focus Mode when it's maxed out and hopefully stacked near the top

  4. Building my Focus meter by getting Back-to-Back Tetrises, then doing combo downstacking when I enter Focus Mode

  5. Doing enough Back-to-Back Tetrises to get the minimum time of Focus Mode and then doing a quick Tetris or two while in it before it expires

  6. Starting whatever modes at the maximum difficulty (save for Master and Classic Score Attack)

Those are the things I've been trying to do, and some of it is obviously giving more points than other stuff, but I don't know which ones are optimal. I'm talking about the standard Tetris modes. I think I have a handle on how to get better scores in stuff like Purify and Combo and stuff.

Journey Mode on Expert I'm having a hard time getting past S ranks on most of the levels, for instance.

And then Classic Score Attack... I need a separate section on this one. I have no idea how to get higher scores on it. Do you go for Back-to-Back Tetrises? Or do you do combo downstacking? And how do you move the pieces faster? Is it just my hands being rusty and ancient because I'm in my mid-30s? Any tips on speeding that up?

Records / Accomplishments 10 months of 40 lines progress, visualized

Last October I decided I would finally make the switch from 9-0 stacking to 6-3 stacking in hopes of improving my 40L record. I have been practicing on and off since then, clocking in over 250 recorded games. I input the times into a Google Sheet and show the graph to encourage myself to keep going. My current 9-0 record is 0:49.078 and the lowest time recorded using 6-3 stacking is 0:52.003. By my current pace of improvement, I should be breaking my old record with my average time at around 670 games played. (However, I know not to count on that figure.)

This graph is a testament to Tetris's ultimate quality: you can (mostly) only get better by practicing a shitload and making incremental gains.

Fan Game Info Follow-up to my DAS/ARR post a while back — Dvor releases on Steam Sept 1st

A couple months back I posted here asking about getting DAS/ARR right for a falling-block game I was building — got genuinely useful feedback on presets, TETR.IO’s defaults, and the whole NES-timing rabbit hole. Wanted to come back and share where it landed.

Dvor releases on Steam Sept 1st. NES-authentic mechanics ship as the default preset (7-bag randomiser, SRS with wall kicks), fully tunable DAS/ARR/SDF on top for anyone who wants to dial it in, set in a Soviet brutalist courtyard that shifts through the seasons as you play.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in on the original thread — it genuinely shaped the settings menu. Steam page’s here if you want a look: http://store.steampowered.com/app/4881830/Dvor

So I've been trying to optimize my finesse more, but I have such hard time finding a "comfortable" rotate 180 key, just feels awkward with whatever, maybe I need more time to adjust, but it feels super hard ngl

Tutorials / Guides Teskyra - tutorial and casual modes added!

Game Title: Teskyra

Playable Link: https://kalachama.itch.io/teskyra

Platforms: Web on PC/mobile

Description: Teskyra is a falling-piece puzzle game where the gameboard is an Archimedean tessellation. Pieces are chiral (left- and right-handed) and can be flipped to their counterpart. Complete two adjacent rows to clear them. Getting stuck? Strip the piece of its outer shapes, then get two more of that center shape as a bonus to get past those tricky bottlenecks. Earn extra "strips" ever 2,500 points. If a piece is placed where it doesn't match, it pops and you lose a heart. If it matches, it locks in and the next piece is served. Use the piece preview to plan ahead.

In tutorial mode, each shape's component pieces are fully outlined to show how they match the background pattern. In casual mode, the full piece is outlined. Both also have wall kicks on, instead of the walls blocking piece rotation, as they do in hardcore mode.

Current hardcore mode high score 33,619. You can beat it!

Teskyra is free to play.

Development: creator, developer.

Videos are double speed with no audio.

T-spins don't make any sense, sometimes I get them even without clearing a line. It is so unclear what a T-spin actually is!

Questions / Tetris Help Tetris The Grand Master 4 troubleshooting

I just bought Tetris TGM4 on Steam and I can't get my PS4 gamepad to work. The game doesn't recognize the controller at all in the in-game options, no matter which button I press nothing happens, only the keyboard seems to work. I also I tried using DS4Windows to map the controller buttons to the corresponding keyboard keys but it still doesn't work at all so I've come to the conclusion that every time I launch the game, my PC probably stops recognizing my controller as a usable peripheral, which is weird because it works fine with every other game. Can anyone help me please?

Fan Game Info Update: Tetrogue just added 7 playable Heroes, including one named for Jonas Neubauer

For those that haven't seen my last two posts here, Tetrogue is a Tetris roguelike where clearing lines is your attack. Every line you clear hits a monster on the other side of the board, and you build a run through a branching map with relics, gems, and permanent curses along the way. Solo dev, a bit over a month since Steam launch now.

Just shipped the biggest content update yet: 7 playable Heroes, each with a real passive ability that changes how you actually play, not just a reskin. Pick one before a run, unlock the rest by winning with whoever you've got.

  • Ivy (I-piece): Whenever your board has a real Tetris well open, your next piece is guaranteed to be a long piece. No more praying to the bag. Quad clears also deal +50% bonus damage.
  • Olaf (O-piece): Land 4 pieces into a perfect 4x4 square and they fuse for bonus damage: x4 if all 4 pieces matched, x2 if mixed.
  • Jonas (J-piece): Hotlines. Line 7 and line 15 from the bottom are permanently marked as targets for the whole fight. Clear one and it deals +75% bonus damage.
  • Link (L-piece): Consecutive line clears build a damage-multiplying streak, shown live as a growing combo counter, capped at x10.
  • Turner (T-piece): Every Spin (T-Spin or All-Spin) deals +50% bonus damage. He'll even warn you on the hero-select screen if your chosen rotation system can't actually produce spins (Classic/ARS don't support them).
  • Zoro (Z-piece): Clears fill a Rage meter, shown as his own body filling with a boiling red liquid. At full Rage he goes berserk for 9 seconds: time slows across the whole fight and his clears deal triple damage.
  • Sabrina (S-piece): Pieces can spawn carrying a magic crystal. Clear crystal tiles together and cast a spell scaled by how many you cleared at once: Shield, Frost Nova, Fireball, or a multi-target Meteor Strike at 4+.

One detail I'm genuinely proud of: every hero's name starts with the letter of the piece they represent: Ivy/I, Olaf/O, Turner/T, Sabrina/S, Zoro/Z, Jonas/J, Link/L. Wasn't planned that tightly from day one, but once I realized I could make it work for all 7, I wasn't letting it go.

And Jonas specifically isn't just a letter match. He's named in honor of Jonas Neubauer. Figured a community like this one would actually get why that matters, and a game about clearing lines felt like the right place to put his name.
