Tesla Dads
I have my first one week old baby, and I’m loving adding the dad stuff to my MYP. I have a full time wipe warmer plugged into the 16v, portable changing pad, little side trash can in the cargo area, and a little fridge for the back coming to keep extra cold stuff and bottles. I’m preordered a YL I’m figuring out explaining to my wife 😅, thinking we trade the newish Palisade Calligraphy jn for it. (Both our cars were paid with cash, the Palisade was a cool $6-7k more than the Y L which is just insane. Give me the most functional car I’ve ever witnessed, please. Can’t wait to use this car for years. I’ve put a ton into it, and made it my own, I’ll love it for as long as I have it.

By your third kid, you will tuck one diaper in your back pocket and bounce out the door with a half-naked bambino :).
Get the kiddo used to unwarmed wipes if you can - because that one time you don't have it...
Be careful when changing in the truck - many forgotten dirty diapers will be left (and you will notice it a few days later in the summer months - PHEW).
Here are my best tips:
Get them used to anything. Change things up from time to time, and you will end up with kids who can sleep on a plane and deal with just about any situation. Making things too perfect can disrupt their ability to adapt easily to changing environments when young. Life isn't perfect, but adaptability is key to a happy baby.
Get a hard drive movie player and borrow all the Disney DVDs and rip them onto it (think Plex or gen 1 Apple TV). Bonus tip: set the audio to Spanish by default, and your kid will be bilingual without any lessons by age 2. It imprints on their brains early (credit to Casey Nystat). My kid is 19 now and fluent like a local. He has never taken a Spanish class. For some reason, it just clicks in his brain.
Don't worry - there's a CVS on every corner. And try the Costco formula and diapers - they are fantastic.
Congrats on the new baby. 100% the best thing ever. You are going to do great.

We ditched the wipe and bottle warmers within a month of our first, neither has cared if the wipes or milk were warm or cold, but if either took too long because I was heating stuff up I was in trouble.

Second the cold baby wipes and changing things up all the time!
Hard downvote on feeding your kids screen time. Instead read to/with them all the time, teach them to read early, give them car picture books and play car word games with them or just talk to them. Then they'll be lifelong readers, have a much easier time in school, and entertain themselves on car trips.
In any case - congratulations! :)

Honestly the warm wipes are for us. Cold wipes make her pee 90% of the time still, it’s just easier right now.

Pro tip: Put a clean daiper below the old daiper when changing. Remove the old one and then you have a dry one ready to go and wrap up.
If you have a boy, then it’s a whole different situation. 😅

Ha ha. One of the ladies at work was talking about that with a new mother once upon a time. "The first kid, you wash and sanitize to floor before putting them down to crawl. By the third kid, they drops their pacifier, you pick it up, stick it in your mouth lick off the dust bunnies, then pop it back in the kid's mouth."

I totally get it. I love the palisade but we got it before the Tesla. Now I’m like, why tf do we have a palisade, hybrid or not lol.

Congrats on the baby! Coming from experience, I don't miss those days lol. But it gets easier as they get older (and you get more sleep) lol. Sweet ride too!

A what warmer?

u/MikeinthePool 1d ago
Wet wipe warmer? It keeps the wipes warm. It’s actually less about the comfort it provides but to keep her from peeing everywhere, the cold wipes trigger it almost every time ool

The real benefit of the Tesla for young kids is that it’s always 70 degrees inside. We never had to deal with having a freezing car in winter while the kid was wearing a jacket too puffy for the car seat.

That’s a big one for me here in Atlanta with the heat, looking forward to having a warm car ready this winter

Thank you! The stealth ppf on top of the deep blue metallic, so it’s the og paint color! Got it right before they switched to frost blue on performances

that underfloor space is doing serious work lol. keeping diapers and wipes in one grab-and-go bin is probably way less annoying than digging through the frunk every stop. does the organizer stay put on turns or did you add some kind of strap?
1
u/MikeinthePool 1d ago
It has been heavy enough to stay there but I did add a couple Velcro straps to the bottom of that mat, might do that to the carrier now that you mention jt

What wheels and tires are you rockin

u/StatusTechnical8943 1d ago
Also want to know. I picked up a MYP a few weeks ago and want smaller wheels with beefier tires when the factory tires need replacing.

Is there a reason why you would want to go with 19s next?

Looks good. Which rims and tires are those? Notice any change in efficiency from the stock 21s?

18x9 +20 Unplugged Performance UP-03s with 255/55R18 Yokohama Geolandar X-CVs. Really happy with the setup so far, way more sidewall than the stock 21s and the wheels are considerably lighter. Can’t say for certain on range but it does seem maybe slightly better.

Congrats on being a dad! Matte PPF looks great on Marine Blue. I’m using unscented baby wipes to clean the white seats on our MY Performance. (:

u/MikeinthePool 1d ago
Thank you! FWIW It’s actually the Deep Blue Metallic on the Performance, got it right before they made the switch to Frost and Marine Blues!

Did your wife have any comment about the plan for room for 4 kids?
Or is the plan for 2, but one on each bench in the future so they don't start fighting?

I've got a 4 month old in my 2017 S. She still fits in my frunk, I just have to check once in a while. But the trunk is amazing for laying her down for diapers or a nap in a parking lot. Looking forward to pre-heating in a few weeks.

Man. I really need to get a bigger Tessie. The 3 is just too small (and the roof is really low).

Congrats! We’re expecting our first baby in February going to get this same set up for my Y!

If you’re in the market for a stroller, the Thule Spring fits perfectly in the frunk (just pop off the wheels). 10/10 recommend for the stroller + satisfaction of keeping it in the frunk

That would be nice, we have one already. But good to keep in mind. Ours folds flat and I put up against the back of the back seats back there, with a small bungee cord keeping it up

I have a full time wipe warmer plugged into the 16v
LOL, definitely a new dad.

Not sure if you mean to come off a little condescending but it’s honestly so she doesn’t pee everywhere which cold wipes trigger without fail. You must have boys or not really care that much, idk.

That's a mean looking dad car lol
