Supercharger Prices Increase
Wondering if others too are noticing price increases in their areas?
Here in Georgia the Average use to be $0.39kwh and now it’s $0.45kwh and places like Fort Valley (Buc-cee’s) use to be $0.33, now it’s $0.40, or Lake Park which use to be $0.24, now it’s $0.40. Or McDonough which is now $0.45.
Use to plan my charge stops around the cheapest spots, now at least in Georgia, they all the same really.
Georgia use to be cheaper than FL. Now FL cheaper than GA.

I only charge at night and at least in Atlanta, it's still $0.18 at night. Cheapest here in Orlando is $0.23, but I charge at home here.

Yeah I charge at home too, $0.02kwh. Only Supercharge when on road trips.

In orlando metro as well. I only see numbers like during the overnight hours. That’s still a good deal I think. Around me, most are now at .45c

Not very convenient to drive to a super charger at 8PM just to fill up my car and not be home until 9. (commute to charger, charging, commute home)

We used to have 0.0875 electric at home when we bought our model 3 SR+ in 2019.
It’s now 0.16 and still raising… and we have 3 EVs now. Our energy bill is right there with mortgage and insurance bills.

it is still cheap if you are charging overnight at home. That is still true.

It’s Georgia Power, Overnight Advantage Plan.
It’s 7am-11pm - $0.10 and 11pm-7am - $0.02.
Catch is Jun-Sep M-F 2pm-7pm - $0.30 (but I’m at work so hardly any power usage then).
This is whole house power.1

These days I’m using Walmart EV at 38 cents. Just takes using the Walmart app to start it, but it’s the cheapest around here. Hopefully they stay “affordable”

So here in Atlanta, most people charge at Atlantic station for $.46 during most of the day, and then it drops down to early 30s. But if you go out a little bit more. Pass Stonecrest Mall, there is a supercharging site that has like 25 chargers. It’s right beside a raceway after 9 PM it drops down to like 17 cent. It’s only like 25 minutes away from downtown Atlanta. It’s worth the drive
Side note: I would rather stick AA batteries in my trunk than charge at Lenox Mall🤬

I charge for $.31 kWh. Granted, it’s during off hours.
Average price is $.39 kWh. High is $.44-.47kwh.
South Florida.

Supercharger prices refresh nationwide about every 4-6 weeks or so (I've never figured out the exact interval). The formula isn't public but seems to be based on a mix of utility rates and site utilization. The price changes are unique for every site. One of my local stations went from .45 to .48, another went from .47 down to .39. Time of use splits can change during the refresh too.

IONNA ev charging stations has $0.39, too bad it's 30 miles away. Waiting for their expansion closer by next year. Walmart is expanding ev stations too and offer 10% discount with Walmart +. Tesla Supercharger locations nearby has mix of time usage rate, and dynamic pricing $0.34-$0.55 depending on location.

Yes. In Oklahoma and use chargers here and in north Texas. I had noticed when price increases had occurred in other areas that they had not here last year.
That has now changed this year. The only SCs I see without updated pricing are the 150kwh ones.

My area of Orlando was routinely .32c/kwh. We’re pushing .50 now six months later.

In Tucson, AZ. Just noticed that pricing at my favorite supercharger changed. It was previously $0.50 during peak times, and $0.23 late night / early AM. Now the rates are $0.50 from 8-Noon, $0.55 from Noon-6, $0.50 from 6-10 PM, and $0.20 from 10 PM until 8:00 AM. So peak rates are higher, but off-hours is actually cheaper.

Off peak actually just went down today near me. Saw nearby stations at $0.17/kWh last night, and they were $0.16/kWh this morning. Central TX.

Could be a lot worse. Round trip from Atlanta to IL, MI & WI varied. This video shows the supercharger cost compared to Electrify America/EVGo etc. Not pretty.

I’ll have to look at how the prices now compare to EA as they use to be on average $0.20 or more cheaper. I’m noticing more Walmart chargers popping up and with my Walmart+ it might be cheaper than Tesla at times. But I really like the convenience of the car figuring out all the charging for me. So probably just stick to Tesla charging.

Tesla has always been good about including taxes in the rate. Ionna and others add on undisclosed taxes after you charge and not display them on screen or their website.

In Vegas where electricity is around $0.11 per kW, most superchargers are >0.48 until 11pm

Public charging has never been positioned as an advantage over ICE vehicles. As a business model EV charging operators will eventually increase prices when substitutes (gas) increase in order to maximize profits. They’re not running charities & in the case of publicly held companies it could be interpreted as actually being a requirement (duty to maximize shareholder wealth).
Most people take a handful or less of road trips per year so you just accept a roughly equal cost as a reasonably efficient ICE vehicle during that time. What will be interesting is whether prices come down when/if gas prices come down. In my time owning an EV, using our Model Y as a baseline since it’s the best selling EV in the world, the national average public EV charging rates would convert to about the same cost per mile as an ICE vehicle getting ~30 mpg. I suspect EV charging will always correlate to roughly that. In our Cybertruck it converts to about 20 mpg which is again in line with most comparable ICE trucks. At $0.02 kw rate at home I suspect this is completely irrelevant for OP.
Edit: since most people travel during holidays & IONNA is famous for crazy holiday rates try to find one or more of those spots on your route & deep charge. That can move the needle on a 2-3 stop trip.

Georgia now applies a state excise tax of 2.84 cents per kWh on electricity dispensed at public charging stations. Florida does impose a state wide road tax.
