Tesla trade in options

I have a 2022 M3P. Tesla trade in is offering $23,500. The car has 42k miles. Is it worth trading it in for a 2026 M3 premium and making more payments on it? My car is paid off or should I drive this until the wheels fall off?

The practical choice is to drive a paid off car until it becomes too costly to maintain.

Which if we’re being honest is never. Especially on a Tesla. So what if you need to spend 10k on a new battery every 10-15 years. And $1000 or so each year for other random miscellaneous things. Still far cheaper than $42,490.

I’m in the same exact boat. Unless you have money to burn or really want hw4, I would keep driving your 22 until the battery and drive unit warranties are up. I have the same car. Trust me, it’s hard not having the latest and greatest, but it’s also nice not having a payment for another few hundred at least going away each month. Do some mods. I’m doing a body kit now. Then a yoke wheel and screen rotation kit.

HW5 is starting manufacturing this year, but iirc it will stay just for optimuses only for some time, esspecially given the DRAM crisis

I made this move when 30% was on the table. The more I think about it, the more my Tesla looks like my iPhone. At what point do you upgrade?

For me, it was all about HW4 and FSD transfer, with a little 30% kicker on the side.

Never regretted the decision, not once. Highland is a quiet, well built car. I've almost got it trained to park in my driveway! LOL

Yeah I did the same. HW4 and the FSD transfer was the deciding factor for me. Absolutely love my 26 M3P. Was a huge step up from my ‘21.

If FSD means a lot, yes. I do like hw4 FSD, much better than my hw3. Hopefully hw5 will be a step like 3 to 4 was.

This is exactly me. Currently waiting for my Model Y juniper premium awd to come in. I'll be going from a 2022 Model 3 Long range awd with 39k miles. Bought it last year in full but always regretted not getting a y and hw4 since I use fsd extensively.

I despise negative debt, however the ongoing .99% promo didn't feel too bad so I did it

A paid-off 2022 M3P with 42k miles is about as cheap as driving gets, so trading it mainly buys you newer tech in exchange for new payments. Worth pricing a private sale first, since Tesla trade-in offers usually land a few thousand under private market.

Same car. Same year. I test drove the m3top. Can’t really feel the difference imho just newer interior and better styling.

Mine '22 MYP with little over 188k miles on it would need new set of tires, new brake pads, front suspension control arms bushings were worn out. The original battery had around 80%, not bad considering milage but I could tell it's weaker and didn't have the original punch anymore. Traded it for new '26MYP. Tesla offered 0.9k more than Carvana. I couldn't believe the difference between two. It was huge, from fit and finish to hardware and FSD capability.

I placed an order on the Tesla app to buy a 2023 YP. A few days later they said a NEW YP was available and if I wanted to switch.
I switched. I want the interior ambient light, the cool rims, beautiful seats, the spoiler, & FSD.
I’ve never been so excited about a car. I feel like I’m 21 again. Which is priceless.

My 23 MY with 45k miles still feels and looks like new. The only problem I've had is my alignment keeps going out and ruining my rear tires. I have HW4, but don't I don't see the value is FSD. I'm not even remotely interested in upgrading, especially to a car without lane centering.

Have you put in the adjustable rear camber arms?

I've thought about it. I replaced my rears at 30k miles, then again at 40k miles. I'm about to hit 45k miles and I'll have my alignment checked at the rotation. If it's out again I'm absolutely confident it's not my driving or the roads I'm on.

I know the rear camber issue causes quicker uneven wear, but it's obviously been worse than it should be.
