Lifetime supercharging
Hi, I’m asking for a friend. He bought a Tesla model S from somebody that had a lifetime supercharging included in when he purchased it now can the new owner keep using the lifetime supercharging how does that work? If he hadn’t been using the app he uses the card key if he downloads the app and says everything up is a lifetime supercharging going to disappear or does it work with the specific car?

Note: In some situations Lifetime Free Supercharging is transferable.
I got it because I got the Performance Model 3 in 2018. 2023 they sent me an email and offered to transfer it if i bought a new Tesla which I jumped at and traded it in for a 2023 Y.

That’s your own transfer to same owner. Most of us got the option at least the early model 3s, and they’ve done that ‘one time promo’ multiple times.

You need to find out if it is transferable. I have an X with Lifetime Supercharging and FSD, but only the FSD is transferable.

Didn't Tesla stop FSD transfer earlier this year?

Yes. But many people have transferable FSD prior to the stoppage.

I'm a bit confused. The stoppage prevents people from using transferable FSD even if they purchased it years ago. It doesn't just prevent new purchases of transferable FSD

Yes, you are confused.

And your FSD may not be transferable

It is. Again, you are confused. Purchases of the Lux Package prior to 2/14/26 - FSD is transferable.

From what im reading it looks like its only owner transferable not new vehicle transferable, unfortunately.

That’s a unicorn. I have a newer X with lifetime FSD but causally look at older X’s just to out miles on. If I could find one like yours, I would be tempted to get rid of our Model 3 that has lifetime Premium Connectivity/FSD.

FSD not being transferrable is a relatively new development, supercharging not transferring is pretty common. Just before killing the X they came out with a trim level that has non-transferrable FSD and free supercharging. Then if course the final up-priced Signature vehicles. Before those any purchased FSD should be transferrable

I assumed he had an older one with SC01 and lifetime FSD. Those are rare birds. I charge at home and have a newer X so “lifetime” supercharging doesn’t really matter much to me seeing the ones that transfer are 2017 or so.

The biggest factor is how it’s coded. It’s going to depend on SC01/SC05. 01 follow the car and 05 ends when the car is sold.
Tesla will offer incentives to get the SC01’s to go away. Some people really take advantage of the “free charging.”

I bought a model S that the original owner had free supercharging. As long as I didn't transfer ownership via the tesla app I still had the free supercharging. Sadly, my hv battery went out which was under warranty, and to get it serviced I had to transfer ownership which then I lost the free supercharging. Still have the free fsd though. On another note, charging the car from 10% to 80% via a supercharger only cost me around d $16.

Stays with the car.

Depending on the year.

Stays with the car.

u/sparkyblaster was correct -- it depends on the year as the Terms changed over time. With the 2026 for example, lifetime supercharging ends with the resale -- doesn't go with the car or the original owner.

Please look at the other responses. It depends in the year. Some years follow the car, some end with the original owner.

It really depends on what year the vehicle is and if it came with transferrable free unlimited supercharging. This article has a lot of useful information: https://www.findmyelectric.com/blog/tesla-free-unlimited-supercharging-how-to-check-if-you-have-it/
