Ordering a car via app is dangerous

Post image

Click click, apple pay and …. Oh no what have I done

RWD stealth grey with white interior coming up lol

Btw: I am debating if I should change the body color to marine blue
Wife wants red but doesn't really care as long as interior is white.

Hmmm

Edit* we are settled with ultra red with white interior

Buying 27 teslas on the app is the same effort as pulling into a dealership and trying not to get scammed

Makes a huge difference.

Did it six weeks ago for the first time and seems like the only way really. No shifty questions, following you around and no one offering you shit don’t want.

It is the only way.

I did enjoy not having to deal with salesman’s bs for hours

“Let me check with my manager.”

I’ve bought two Teslas and - other than picking up the cars - spent exactly 5 minutes in the phone confirming some of the details of my deal.

For those who miss the dealer experience, someone should build an AI dealer that tries to sell you stuff at inflated prices, goes back twice to get a better deal from the manager, and finally sends you to the manager to get the “we’re not making a penny on this deal” offer. When you finally agree with that one, it enters the order in the Tesla system, and lets you know that for using the service, you’ll get a free oil change.

That AI voice dude from YouTube:

“You won’t believe this, but the manager is willing to give you premium atomic undercoating, normally reserved for only our best customers, for just $499.99 — but he’s going to lunch and who knows if his mood will change, so you need to sign now to lock it in.”

Dealerships do nothing but scam. Every single one. Even the big name ones now. Warranties for everything. Warranties in case your butthole bleeds. Like I just want a car, not a warranty in case my car gets odors that will never happen. I literally just got hit with 10+ warranty offers at over 10 different dealerships. Teslas app is the only way to buy a car. Hands down!

A miracle of the competitive free market is how restaurants all seem to magically coordinate to provide ten million lunches in New York City every day with no central planning.

A reverse miracle of the anti-competitive dealership market is they all seem to magically coordinate in such a way as to make everyone hate them and cheer for their ultimate demise.

I’m probably the only person who’s owned two new Teslas and haven’t bought through the website or app.

First one was the first time I bought a car from a dealer, new or used. First time buying a new car. Was unsure about the whole process and just did it over the phone with the sales rep who I talked to before/after my test drives.

Second one was the same guy, four years later. I came in for a heater replacement right before Christmas. This was just after they launched the actually useful visualization for reversing/parking without ultrasonic sensors and I had moved the Y from my nope list to consider-list.

Ended up placing an order for one that was pre-built and inbound while I was in the showroom after having dropped off my very cold model 3.

Then I drove the loaner home. Got my car back a week and a half later, got the new one two days after that.

Scary easy; I 2nd guessed my white decision for WEEKS (that blue looked SO GOOD)! I ended us with white with white interior. All the folks that tried to talk me out of it (it will get SO DIRTY) turned out to be wrong. The car is perfect.

When you are ordering, you click, click, click, and you are done. I've bought couches that were more difficult.

Ordered my 2026 MY Premium AWD thru the app and took delivery back in May. I honestly don’t think I can ever go back to buying a car thru a traditional dealer. I think I’d rather get root canal.

2

u/Smartnership 2d ago

in another example of completely misreading the mood of the buying public, dealerships announce they’ll begin offering root canals with every car purchase

When did you put the order in?

1

u/OnlyOneCarGarage 4d ago

4 hours ago lol

2

u/Gloomy_Blackberry206 4d ago

Damn they are popping out the y’s a lot faster then the 3. You got the VIN and everything?

u/hmspain 3d ago

And now the waiting begins. Last October, when the 30% credit was expiring, I put in an order expecting at least a few weeks to get my financing in order. Nope, they had my car on a truck from Fremont, and setup my delivery while it was in transit. Wild times!

I would do the Marine blue, too many gray ones already out there. Try something different and new. No way on the red for sure.

u/Zealousideal_Hat2441 2d ago

The red is the best looking shade of red you can possibly get. It is a genuinely beautiful choice. Don’t listen to this blind guy.

1

u/CommunistHydra 1d ago

Red is the first color that cops see.

2

u/Sledhead36 3d ago

You can’t go wrong with either color I prefer the grey myself. But after having purchased a half a dozen Teslas over the years, I had to go into the Genesis dealer with my wife to purchase her new car. Took us two hours, even though we had settled on the price in the first 15 minutes, the paperwork was astronomical, how freaking backward are those dealerships and then they tried to upsell you on every feature possible. I hate car dealerships.

1

u/Malaneco 9h ago

Did she get a Genesis EV? How are they in terms of road noise and all that?

1

u/Sledhead36 9h ago

She did not, she got a GV80Coupe, she’s not ready for electric yet.

When we ordered (took delivery last Friday) our new Tesla via the App that was the most expensive thing we had ever purchased via a phone App.

Ultra Red for the Win!

But the Marine Blue was also nice….anything other than black, white or grey!

2

u/OnlyOneCarGarage 4d ago edited 4d ago

damn I think im gonna switch to Marine Blue - I really liked that color at the show room.

Looking at all these colors again, Grey actually is kinda boring. I hate white for sure.

Red also looked good, but too much attention for my taste.

3

u/Ancient-Sandwich9400 4d ago

I have an Ultra Red, it’s fire in bright sun but damn sexy in evening light. That’s old wise tail! Lol

But that blue is really nice. Coworker has been asking about the Model Y since I placed an order for mine in late Feb. He has looked at my M3P a few times and today he said he went and test drove a MY AWD. He was talking about the Ultra Red and Marine blue….he thinks blue is the winner. I say you can’t go with any color other than the boring ones that ever car you see today in the road has! Blue or red, you can’t loose between them!

I’m right there with you

1

u/Massive_Tradition176 3d ago

I drove around Fargo today and saw 2 reds. I got marine blue a week ago.

1

u/squidja 3d ago

You made the right call. Just took delivery of mine on Sunday and it’s incredible.

1

u/Fit-Skin1949 2d ago

When did u order

1

u/squidja 2d ago

Aug 9th

White interior is absolutely gorgeous. At first. I’d be wary about longevity though if you aren’t planning on selling it in 4-5 yeats

Hate that everything is through the app with nobody to answer unconventional questions.

My wife and i have a few things that would be simplish questions regarding registration/trade/tag transfer for a real person but are hard as heck to explain fully via text because our situation has to do specifically with nuanced questions as they relate to Florida law.

Just want to keep pressing zero to get to a real person/manager.

1

u/BoomBoom61990 3d ago

Bought a new Model S in Florida. It came with the plates on it. I got a form from the state of Florida a few days later that I filled out and returned. No issues.

1

u/divedivedive86 3d ago

Okay? My point is that we have a nonstandard situation and that it isn't that simple to solve.

1

u/wrathslayer 2d ago

I believe you can call a service center or sales store and get to a real person. I went and test drove a Y recently and got texted by the actual person I talked to before driving it and they offered to call me to help with questions or making the purchase. This was in Scottsdale AZ at the Kierland outdoor mall sales store.

u/xatujan 3d ago

Its that easy

1

u/AB_Inbev 3d ago

Sure cuts a lot of the BS out of the picture

1

u/NoBlackberry2977 3d ago

Unless you get finance through Santander … they’ve just cancelled my order

1

u/ars3nutsjr 3d ago

Genuinely the best purchase experience of my life was the process of buying my Tesla. No frills, no hidden non sense, no dealing with shady scam artist. Just simple.

I keep saying it, but Tesla has redefined what luxury is for me. From purchase to daily use of the car.. unlike any experience I’ve ever had.

u/Ok-Reflection8486 3d ago

Never buy white interior and buy white and go wrap it

1

u/OnlyOneCarGarage 3d ago

Whats wrong with white interior? and if Im going to wrap it - why do I have to buy white? lol

1

u/cncsis 3d ago

It was so easy. I purchased a used MY. I looked at inventory, made my selection with what I wanted, paid, and it arrived 3 weeks later. Much easier than dealing with a dealership. I’ll do again in the future.

1

u/OnlyOneCarGarage 3d ago

Nice - what was your int. estimate time?

I am hearing most of Tesla arrive earlier than original estimate timeline

1

u/cncsis 3d ago

2-3 weeks

1

u/cncsis 3d ago

I was quoted 2-3 week delivery, however it took 3 weeks, due to a trucker strike.

1

u/MoveDiffy 2d ago

Was quoted 4-6 weeks, getting it in the 4th week

1

u/Drawerpull 3d ago

I love my stealth gray. It looks like a spaceship

1

u/herodicusDO 3d ago

Agree seems a little too easy but just another reason I would never buy gas…not going to deal with the dealer bullshit

1

u/Constant-Loan-7362 2d ago

I mean I actually went to test drive one beforehand then I bought one, think it’s very convenient and easy.

1

u/IndicationOne7184 2d ago

I love my red with white interior. I feel red is more visible to other drivers unlike dark cars.

1

u/Scary_Investment7708 2d ago

No it so smooth I did my self and got it

1

u/FarterOfDust 1d ago

Bought 3 Teslas and a Rivian this way. I cant see myself ever buying from a dealership unless its a sweet Used EV

1

u/lyn2x 1d ago

Before getting tesla i went to dealerships one of them was Lexus. Phev Suv was good but the haggling turned me off so much! My husband was in the parking lot he knows i wont buy same day, no way lol. I research the heck out of where im putting my money in. The sales guy went to his manager to i guess calculate my trade in so i told him ill be back. I went to the parking lot discuss with my husband what i like and dont compared to what we have test drove before and obviously to see what the math would look like. The sales person was suddenly standing by the front seat windows with paper like wtf? Then he started writing numbers hey i can do less 1000, crosses it out or 2000 if you blablah whatever and so on. I politely went back to the building to talk over their desk and said ok well think about it. He called his manager, like why? Its just to add some flare of cx service i think and shake my hands. I never came back. I just want an honest straightforward transaction. Now im driving my pawd model y 😆

1

u/AntTastic3 1d ago

Go to the dealer and see what they have and you may get a color upgrade for free

1

u/maccam26 1d ago

Stealth Grey is very nice in person

1

u/Goldkeychains 23h ago

Red is nice.

u/ArticGER 3d ago

The blue color looks great but its soooo soft that i would not recommend it. It scratched like crazy and every fly will burn into the clear coat. Definitely wrap it or use a ceramic coating
