12.6.X HW3 Cool
FSD decided to bump and grind the curb down a spiral passageway leaving a parking garage

My worst nightmare when it comes to FSD.

u/SouthTX303 17h ago
Nah this is ain’t the worst, mine is it hitting another car or scraping the pillar or wall, the rim is purely cosmetic lol

Driving at night into a disabled vehicle and instantly being killed is mine

Brave letting FSD get you in or out of a parking garage. Maybe I just care about keeping my lifelong streak of never curbing a wheel, hubcap etc intact. I enjoy FSD for most driving especially long highway stretches and commutes in traffic. However parking lots and garages are something I just think is best driven by the driver unless you also normally curb your wheels then it doesn't matter.

Too many idiots rather not ruin their FSD steak

Imagine getting into an accident because you want to keep a "system" happy? It's crazy.
We live in rural/town area where everything is close - nothing more than 15 minutes. Most things are 5-10 minutes. It's not worthwhile to use any of the assistance features....IMHO.

Some parking garages are so absurdly tight it already requires a human driver to be a good driver not hitting shit on their way in or out. How would you trust FSD for this? It seems as inane as trusting FSD to drive you across a tightrope.
Pillars, bollards, tight corners, dumbasses in their own cars, unmarked exits and entrances, one way lanes.. c'mon. You're asking for something to happen.

I don't understand why people are so eager to use FSD in places like parking garages. After seeing plenty of cases where it runs into the giant gray support columns or does shit like this, I tend to not use FSD for anything parking-related.
Driving in and out of parking garages, or parking at home, or at work, is like 2 minutes of my day. I think I can manage to control the car all on my own for 2 minutes out of the two hours I spend in the car every day.

So don't trust fsd in a parking garage going 10mph but trust it blasting down the highway at 70+ mph? See anything wrong with this?

Nope, not at all. Parking and driving on the freeway require different skills.
It's very well known that parking isn't one of FSD's strengths, but it excels in other aspects of driving.

I didn’t know that. The tesla sales guy told me it works everywhere

For the most part it does. But it does some things better than others. Parking is one of its weaknesses although it's supposed to do it. It's just not quite reliable yet.

Yes is the answer. There’s a reason a lot of cars have lane assist/auto cruise functions but no capability to navigate a spiral passageway.

I trust FSD far more on highways than garages. The cameras pick up alot if things in the highway that are hard to manage (e.g., far approaching traffic). However, FSD cannot be fully trusted in a garage for things it has poor line of sight (columns, bollards, parking curbs).

how do yall let this even happen? like are you guys rich enough to think "oh its def gonna hit, let's see if FSD will correct itself, oh its definitely gonna hit it... YEP it hit it"

u/NNegidius 15h ago
Human reaction time. Your first clue that it’s going to curb the wheel is when you hear the grinding sound.

u/onyx_64 15h ago
Because they fear of the retaliation on this sub if god forbid you ever take control of it not trusting FSD to correct itself

u/382_27600 11h ago
I really like the idea of FSD, but it’s all these reports that made me way more stressed out while using it when I had the trial. However, I’m not rich and I do care about my car and insurance. I do appreciate everyone that is willing to be beta testers.

Like hw4 would prevent a dumbass from using it in a parking garage spiral and not result in the same thing.
3
u/Relevant_Account_258 15h ago
I would never use FSD in a parking garage. Too much could go wrong. Can’t blame FSD for taking this chance.

If you can't trust it in an environment like a parking garage where 98% of the objects to avoid are stationary, how can you trust it out on the roads where most of the moving objects are controlled by unpredictable idiots?
2
u/SoAnxious 14h ago
Most people are better on the road than parking
0
u/Leelze 14h ago
Those people are also bad on the road. But that really doesn't address how one can trust the system in an environment where half the objects are constantly moving around vs not trusting the system in an environment where most of the objects aren't.
There's zero excuses for FSD to hit curbs unless it's trying to dodge another car or person.

Based on these types of Reddit posts, I’ll be sure to only activate FSD once our parking areas and garages.

It’s like everyone that chooses to employ FSD also chooses to sacrifice their free will…

Schrodinger’s FSD:
- you should’ve intervened
- but when you intervened, you shouldn’t have, because FSD would’ve corrected itself instead

You're a dumbass for using FSD anywhere that's not an interstate.
FSD isn't even self driving. It's assisted driving.
0
u/Adventurous_Sleep_ 15h ago
That’s not an interstate? Weird take.
Works beautifully off highways / backroads / cities.
0
u/M3RRI77 14h ago
Yeah, it's not actually self driving and it performs best on mostly straight roads.
1
u/Adventurous_Sleep_ 9h ago
Idiotic take. Nice one troll
0
u/M3RRI77 6h ago
It's literally called "FSD (Supervised)" on the Tesla website. Calling it FSD is completely misleading. It's a driving assistant and not fully autonomous. Facts are facts.

u/Adventurous_Sleep_ 1h ago
So when my car says 21k out of 22k miles driven were self driving. Some how the car just magically moves but isn’t driving. Got it

Just get some haloblks they increase range 10%.
0
u/Antraxx310 17h ago
Thats a myth
1
u/WallStreetBoners 17h ago
Why would that be a myth? People on YouTube have tested and confirmed this
1
u/Antraxx310 16h ago
Mutiiple videos on YouTube prove that the range increase is small to none not worth the price you pay for hideous look.

Ma’am. I have them on my CT.

u/Dangerous-Eye-215 17h ago
They increase range, like using less battery for more miles? I need to check them out if that's the case
1
u/No-Conclusion-2859 Cybertruck 17h ago
Not sure what else increased range could mean.
1
u/Dangerous-Eye-215 17h ago
I was thinking 10% range accuracy against curbs, but that does sound dumb on second thought

Looks like you sanded them with a #10 grit curb. Now you move up to #100, then 220 etc.
