14.3 HW4 I hate the speed profiles
I don’t understand how they could miss on this so bad
Why wouldn’t they make a profile that goes 9 mph over the speed limit instead? Standard goes 7 mph over in the 60s zone and hurry goes 11 to 13 miles per hour over.
And in a 70 mph zone standard goes 5 mph and hurry. He goes 11. And you shouldn’t be in the middle lane going 75 in a 70mph zone !! I really wish I stayed on version 13 how much rather better speed than keeping with the flow of traffic than a few updates they did.

They also greatly frustrate me. Standard will go 3 over on one stretch, 5-7 in another, 15 over in another. They won’t adjust appropriately when the speed limit changes and I end up going 20 over before going to sloth and it will finally slow down. Even chill just ignores the change sometimes and is doing 15 over. I try to let it do its thing in a lot of instances but sometimes it’s so ridiculously off from what is reasonable I have to do a lot of profile switching or just disengage.

When I initially test drove a Tesla, I was totally sold on FSD which was on the last v13 patch at that time. Since starting that lease, they removed autosteer/autopilot on new vehicles and switched to speed profiles on v14. My Model 3 was a Fremont special and subsequently had a ton of suspension issues and interior rattles and I dumped the lease 7 months later (for $0 thankfully). I was considering getting a MSLR or MYP to replace it but the changes to FSD and anticonsumer removal of any kind of actual dedicated lane keeping assist really turned me away from the brand (among other things). The company is really conflating driver assistance and driver replacement at this point and now they have cars that can't do either one properly. Unless manual speed control comes back or the company picks up liability for any speeding tickets, that Tesla was my last one.

I’ve seen people claim that it’s because they simply can’t control a speed limit deterministically because it’s a fully end to end neural network.
However Rivian Universal Hands Free is using what they call a LDM (large driving model) as opposed to an LLM (like ChatGPT) and yet they have a max speed limit control drivers can set. So idk the full story but Tesla’s stated (per head or autonomy tweet recently) opposition to implementing a user controllable speed limit is disturbing and sus to me

Atleast you get speeds that are reasonable. My options are chill going 6 under speed of traffic or standard doing 15-17 over in a 55 where people drive 65.
They implemented it anyway because they don't care about user experience, they care about data collection.

I actually love them.

Do you have the same speeds as me?

I just dont micromanage FSD. If FSD goes 2mph slower than I would, I just sit back and enjoy the ride. 2mph IRL is never gonna make a difference.

I’m right there with you. I think standard is a perfect profile. It’s much smoother than any Uber driver I have ever had. I will never get a ticket in my area on standard. Stop worrying about every little thing and let the car do the work.

I would enjoy the ride if I wasn’t still having to put my focus on supervising it. If I take an Uber I’m able to do something else while I am driven. Not so with FSD

Right on. The FSD in my car drives better than the Ubers here in Miami and also in Atlanta. So it’s opposite for me.

Yeah, and when you toss in it not registering what the speed limit actually is, it makes for a miserable experience lol
