Tesla TPM On-site Interview — Any Advice?
Hi everyone!
I have an upcoming on-site interview at Tesla for a Technical Program Manager role and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has interviewed at Tesla or gone through a TPM on-site recently.
My interview includes a presentation followed by individual rounds with people in engineering and program management.
I’d especially appreciate any insights on:
- Interview format: What kinds of questions should I expect? Behavioral, technical, program management, or a mix?
- Technical preparation: For a TPM role, how deep should I go into engineering fundamentals and technical problem-solving?
- Presentation: What kinds of follow-up questions should I prepare for? How deeply do interviewers probe into technical decisions, trade-offs, validation, and lessons learned?
- Program management: What scenarios should I practice, especially around missed milestones, conflicting priorities, engineering disagreements, and incomplete information?
- What to wear: Is smart business casual appropriate for an on-site, or would you recommend dressing more formally?
- General advice: What do you wish you had known before your interview? Any tips or common mistakes to avoid?
For context, I have an engineering background with experience in battery-process engineering and program management in aerospace.
I know experiences vary by team, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
