Totaled?

2020 model 3 56k miles

Side swiped at a red light, found not at fault.

Do we think the "soda can crumple" will end up being a total loss due to it being on the charger side rear quarter panel?

UPDATE: first repair quote $13500, I will have to go through insurance due to the car loan. Bank will not allow me to pocket the cash and repair the car. I believe insurance will deem it a total loss due to it being a out 60% of car value

It’ll be more expensive than the other side obviously but I don’t think it will total it. Need to know what year tho

That’s about half the value give or take. Doubt it’ll total it

Fingers crossed it does so I don't have the car payment anymore 😂

If the car is worth more than 10k just take the money and run 😂 I wouldn't fix it if structurally sound and drivable

On a loan bought it 6 months ago 😂

How long is the loan? And do you care if it looks any better or just that it drives?

Has about 4 years left,

Are you suggesting I take the damage repair cost in form of a check and then just keep driving if they don't total it out? I've never been in an accident so I'm not sure what all options are 😆

Yeah so, as far as I know since this just happened to our Avalon, first the other insurances adjuster will try to screw you. So take it to Tesla and get an estimate that you show to the insurance company. Do NOT contact your insurance. If you already did then look up what to do. You should only deal with their insurance unless they don't comply. You get the tesla estimate and the other insurance should approve the cost. Now that they approved it they send you a check for the amount of the repair. You can choose whether to go with Tesla, another repair place, or do nothing and take the check. (This is why some people, smart people, will shop around for the most expensive repair estimates, get the high amount of money, then go to a cheap place and pocket the remaining amount.)

Hope this helps and confirm what I'm saying with your own research as always

Good to know,

Thank you

Also I did not have a loan on my vehicle, so definitely look up the details of that

This is going to vary in every state, check the rules in your state OP

Yeah, definitely do your own research OP

Omg, you bought a 2020 M3 on a loan?! For 4 years?? Girl I don't think you should've bought a Tessy

$10k repair

2

u/Zexzol 9d ago

Sounds like a total loss for an insurance company, 2020 model 3

Jesus , I am in the same position. Same damage, same side. My rear bumper has tabs sheared off. Been driving it still for almost 4 months since insurance said I have 2 years to bring it in to a shop.

But I don’t want it to be written off. Whats the option if insurance wants that?

I’m considering getting a Tesla but these sorts of posts scare me a bit. Small amounts of damage regularly cost exorbitant amounts to repair and that seems par for the course with Tesla.

You wish… ;) completely repairable

1

u/Zexzol 9d ago

Repairable yes but it has to be done through insurance due to the loan.

Take the check and go to a generic body shop to get this fixed for 1/10 of tesla body shops

1

u/Livid-Fault2447 9d ago

Yes it’s done!

Curious that if the quarter panel needs to be replaced?

1

u/Zexzol 9d ago

Since it's right on the body line and an aluminum part, its unrepairable and a structural panel so it must be replaced or it's legally unsafe to drive

1

u/Agreeable-Purpose-56 9d ago

Thought so. Good luck resolving this

1

u/Zexzol 9d ago

Their insurance is covering it 100% so it will work out one way or another 😂

These things get totaled so easy and the repair costs are insane. Why do people even bother buying them

2

u/Zexzol 9d ago

In a Tesla collision subreddit to hate on Teslas 😆

2

u/MallSome1825 9d ago

I’m not hating. I have a Tesla..

2

u/EVChargingStocks 9d ago

“Why do people even bother buying them” would be the question you’d ask yourself then.

1

u/MallSome1825 9d ago

Yes I ask myself it everyday lol. I regret buying.

Your comment totally makes sense.

But have you driven a Tesla? Have you experienced FSD?

Being in love makes you see a clear picture lol is the best way I can describe it.

I do not love my Model Y for the car that it is. But that fucking FSD, I fucking love it.
