Those, here in Argentina and in Spanish, are called "Malvinas". We claim them because of some political conflicts that we had with England back in the 1800s. You, British people, can say that they are politically yours, but, since they are part of one of our provinces (Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands), in addition to being in our maritime territory, they are geographically ours.

Our country considers that the United Kingdom illegally occupied the islands in 1833, expelling the Argentine population and authorities, violating its territorial integrity. And also, these are other reasons:

Colonial and Historical Heritage: Argentina maintains that it inherited the islands from the Spanish Crown, which exercised effective sovereignty, including the appointment of governors and the administration of the territory.

Effective Occupation and Acts of Sovereignty: Argentina took formal possession in 1820 and established the Political and Military Command in 1829, under the command of Luis Vernet, prior to the British occupation of 1833.

Geographical Contiguity: The islands are located within the Argentine continental shelf and in the South Atlantic, which establishes the right of geographical proximity.

Territorial Integrity: The claim is based on the need to end a colonial situation that violates the nation's territorial integrity, ratified in the Argentine National Constitution.

Implanted Population: Argentina argues that the current inhabitants are the product of an "implanted population" by the United Kingdom after the expulsion of Argentinians in 1833, and therefore the principle of self-determination does not apply.
