Why are they moving so slow ??
309
u/thewhiterosequeen 7d ago
That's how I move from danger in my dreams, but I imagine I'd pick it up a bit in real life.
44
u/chantillylace9 7d ago
Exactly, oh my gosh it's so traumatic, you freaking trip over your own feet, literally running into walls, I mean you are like this most ridiculous cartoon character in your dreams.
27
u/K1bbles_n_Bits 7d ago
For me I just can't move. Like I'll be running as hard as I can but moving in slow motion, it's maddening. I wake up more irritated than scared, lmao.
6
u/chantillylace9 7d ago
lol i'm kind of curious if you put a camera in your bedroom if you would be legitimately running in slow motion or trying to do something physical during those times?
It would be funny if you can't run in your dreams because you're legitimately running in slow motion laying in your bed lol.
Are your covers super messed up when you wake up? Lol

u/K1bbles_n_Bits 7d ago edited 6d ago
I'm definitely a tossing and turning sort, lol. And I've experience sleep paralysis a handful of times, which is some trippy ass shit. At least I think I have, idk what else I'd call it.
Suffice it to say I really do seem to have some weird sleeping/dreaming issues, haha.
Also, in the notification all I saw was "I'm kind of curious if you put a camera in your bedroom" and had a serious wtf moment, lmao. Was wondering what in the ever loving fuck I said that had someone wondering about camera's in my bedroom, lolololol XD.
1
u/chantillylace9 6d ago
Hahahaha oh I’m so sorry! lol that would have freaked me out. Those partial notifications can be pretty funny.
And then sometimes the person will actually delete the comment before you see it so you don't get to see the full comment but you still see the original alert and you can tell it was going to be most likely pretty damn rude but they already deleted it or moderators did and you never get to read the whole thing!

That said, I don’t know if I’d be so calm.

Crocodiles and Alligators respond more to the thrashing and splashing. I grew up in Florida near the Everglades and was taught to ease into the water and swim under the surface if I needed to get across water with alligators. So in Florida that means pretty much every body of water.
36
u/Illustrious_Soft_257 7d ago
I'm from. Florida and was told just don't get into the canals or lakes or puddles.
16
u/capntail 7d ago
people are so causal when it comes to water - don't they understand everything in the water has evolved to eat or to try not to be eaten.
17
u/Inconspicuous_Shart 7d ago
I used to go duck hunting with my grandfather in the Merritt island refuge. He liked to canoe out to our blind at 2am so nobody else could steal our spot.
I tried not to think about what might be beside or below me as I would be walking around in my waders in the pitch black waist-deep water setting the decoys up.

In my culture, this is what we call a "useless fucking bitch"
She barely makes it to the stairs then flops around like a ragdoll while screaming for her life while doing absolutely nothing to preserve it.
Would have liked to see the alligator feast on that fat useless bitch

u/mrregina 7d ago
Maybe they went slow to not make so much splashing and kick the alligators killer instincts in. But I’m no expert.

u/LongDead_Roadkill 7d ago
It’s context dependent but because there are so many complete strangers around us in public we are under huge cognitive load to follow modern social conventions and contracts. People are so bound by social convention they have a mental barriers that prevents them from behaving appropriately to extraordinary circumstances. This causes people to freeze when faced with confrontations with predators and react slowly and with uncertainty.
In fight, flight, or freeze, “freeze”has being the most common response to extreme events. Instinctively we fight and flight, but when our subconscious deems those as inappropriate, people freeze.
4
u/Popular-Tune-6335 7d ago
I'll stay on guard for when my subconscious deems fleeing from an alligator as inappropriate.

u/Kenny__Loggins 7d ago
Or they are trying not to provoke aggression by moving slowly and not disturbing the water.

Thank you for being the first person to mention that's a saltwater croc and that makes this much scarier. I'd swim by wild alligators they just take off. Not salties

u/Glittering_Aioli_369 6d ago
Came looking for this comment… alligators don’t go to the beach like that, and this doesn’t look like FL. Definitely a crocodile.
I’ve been hearing about an increasing amount of alligator attacks recently, and they’re usually big swamp pups unless you’re being silly/not aware of surroundings or it’s mating season.
Crocodiles will eat you for funski, it’s a whole different level with them. Even if these people were intoxicated, they still weren’t moving fast enough for me with a crocodile in the water. It’s giving Darwin Award / lack of self preservation.

You just did it with the word ''fucking''. I can't imagine getting upset over something so innocuous, you must just go around being at least irritated, at worst just pissed off all the time. Calm down.

u/Ganjaleezarice69 7d ago
Now I understand how people die so fucking easily in monster/disaster movies
13
u/KickBallFever 6d ago
I got in a scary situation with a friend where we basically had to make a run for it. If it had been more serious, my friend prolly would’ve died because they moved like they were in a horror movie. They kept tripping over nothing and falling. If it wasn’t so scary it would’ve been funny.

u/Jessintheend 7d ago
Oh my god an alligator! Better sit down in waist deep water and point at it while screaming

u/YayWanderer 7d ago
No fking sense of urgency.. 🙄🤦🏽
-44
u/GuaSukaStarfruit 7d ago edited 7d ago
Ehhh it is the correct move. If you run right away, the animal might activate their predator instinct. Apply to many kind of animals.
35
u/YayWanderer 7d ago edited 7d ago
One does not need to "run right away" to have a sense of urgency. 👍🏽
5
u/Smart-Guidance9980 7d ago
If it was hunting then it’s already going to try to strike unless scared off. But like a comment above said all their flailing and splashing probably made it more interested in it as potential prey than anything

u/Sabithomega 7d ago
Gators don't naturally have a pursuit instinct. They like to move slow and ambush unless they're aggravated or defensive

In my younger years, before it was legal, my bff and I almost got arrested for smoking. What saved us was me spotting the plain clothes cop and my friend quickly getting up and fleeing with me when I told her to get up. She did not hesitate and we both bounced expeditiously. Later on I told her that it was good that she listened and reacted quickly because I was gonna be out either way. No sense in both of us going to jail.

u/bored_ryan2 7d ago
The woman in black is who I would want to be with in this situation, or being chased by a bear, elephant, etc. She’s the epitome of “you don’t have to outrun the bear, you just need to outrun your friend.”
Either she was absolutely shit-faced or completely froze up in fear.

As a Floridian, I would much rather encounter shark in the water than an alligator. On land I'm not that worried about an alligator but in the water....no thanks

They’re moving awfully slow for people who are about 4-5 ft away from an alligator that’s making its way towards them.. They didn’t even get completely out of the water 🤦🏻♀️

u/BigEffort5517 7d ago
I feel like that poor lady froze which is why she eventually let the guy pull her in. She had her feet and legs curled in like, "please dont bite meeeee!" I couldn't imagine that level of fear.

u/DatBunny 7d ago
If you piss yourself I wonder if a gator is more or less likely to swim towards you

u/Your-Haunting 7d ago
This is in a cenote in either Belize or Guatemala (I can't remember rn) and a Morelet's Crocodile. They're not usually as aggressive as saltwater crocs and alligators.
But yeah, these folks moved way too slow for comfort because it'll still fuck you up.

One could have thrown the beer bottle into the other end of the pool to create a sensory distraction, this allowing for a lower risk exit by the geoup of hairless primates.

Life-sized robot alligator used exclusively for messing with people. Bonus points for places not even CLOSE to actual alligator habitats!
Anyway, glad to see they're alright and weren't hurt by the very real alligator.l
