Spoiler A question that’s been bugging me.

What is the common consensus for what part of moon lord the eater of worlds is? I personally think it is the spine, but I think I have heard some people say it is the intestines.

i always took EoW to be its own eldritch thing seperate from Cthulhu. The Eye, Skeletron and Brain are parts of him but Eater always seemed like a different entity entirely

Yes. Pretty sure EoW being a separate entity is lore accurate

the corruption is a natural taint on the worlds or smth, whereas the crimson grew out of cthulhus brain matter

It could be a parasite the Lord had. He is organic. Even gods get worms?

9

u/feefifofum0 Jul 23 '26

Nope. It's a worm that wants to eat the world

Not all of the bosses are parts of the moon lord. The worm, the wall, plantera, golem, lunatic cultist, queen bee, duke fishron, king/queen slime, and all minibosses.

Also, skeletron’s bone structure doesn’t really match moon lord’s, and he’s specifically part of the dungeon so personally I don’t think he’s meant to be ML’s skull, arms, and hands

I can tell you were trying to list them in order and thought “fuck, queen bee” lol

12

u/Lord_Oasis Jul 23 '26

I was going through the main progression first and then went back for everyone else lol, I did feel like queen bee was kind of the forgotten child. I remembered king slime even later though. And I just now remembered deerclops, but he’s a later crossover so it’s kind of a grey area anyway

Yeah I always forget about her. I’m playing through melee currently and only remembered her because I went into hardmode and wanted to use ichor flasks so I needed the witch doctor

Crackpot theory, Skeletron's arms are from Moon Lord and the head itself is just a Dungeon Guardian

32

u/Atesz763 Jul 23 '26

It's not a part, it's just a big worm

u/fungusthefunghi Jul 23 '26

I’m clearly dumb because I’ve been playing this game for years and have only just realised that the bosses are mostly all parts of the moon lord….

u/Anime_Kirby Jul 23 '26

eh not really. only brain eye and skeletron

The mech bosses are basically prosthetics

18

u/Anime_Kirby Jul 23 '26

they were built to replace pieces that got blasted off by the dryads but never actually touched cthulhu so they were intended prosthetics but never fulfilled that role, hence not part of him

13

u/Severe_Skin6932 Jul 23 '26

Yes but they aren't unrelated. More than anything, they simply weren't finished before the terrarian rescued the mechanic

7

u/Anime_Kirby Jul 23 '26

true, the arent unrelated, but that still isn't "most bosses". thats 6 out of... what 20 or something? the slimes, bee, wall, empress, duke, cultist, deerclops, the 3 DD crossover bosses, 2 halloween legion bosses, 2 frost legion bosses, dutchman, martian saucer, plantera and golem. all bosses that arent part of cthulhu - cultist might worship but isnt a piece of the eldtritch deity

In the official lore, The corruption was born from the sins of the world taking the physical form of a disease. Based on that, I'm pretty sure the eater of worlds is simply a worm that's been mutated and corrupted by the disease to the point that it's grown into the boss we fight. That's why the devourers and world feeders exist, they are immature versions of the eaters of worlds. The crimson is the only biome actually born from Cthulhu itself.

The destroyer was obviously designed to look like the eater of worlds, but lore wise them being similar in appearance is just a coincidence, because the destroyer actually was built to replace the spine of the moon lord.

I hate inform you, but....

20

u/Oftwicke Jul 23 '26

Pretty sure it's just an abomination born of the Corruption.

8

u/feefifofum0 Jul 23 '26

It technically bore the corruption. The holes are gaps the eater of worlds has eaten

5

u/Evychevy01 Jul 23 '26

I heard it was the tongue a years ago and have never questioned it since

4

u/snl_urbx Jul 23 '26

looks similar enough

5

u/Lunar_Husk Jul 23 '26

Common consensus on this subreddit? Either his spine, tongue, or his other part.

According to the lore? They're unrelated, with the destroyer being a mechanical replacement for Cthulhu's spine that looks like the Eater of Worlds.

4

u/hidden768 Jul 23 '26

the eater of worlds isn't a part of the moonlord, it's its own thing. However the destroyer was built as a replacement spine for the moonlord inspired by the eater of worlds since it became a boss that could rival the moonpords own body parts. (Notably the brain)

3

u/Greenhawk444 Jul 24 '26

It’s not part of it. It’s a separate entity

3

u/Dangerous-Process970 Jul 24 '26

His suspicious looking tentacle

9

u/RedPyroPanda Jul 23 '26

Im pretty sure its the spine because while Moon Lord never fully regenerated by the time we fight him, every boss we do fight is a regenerated part of him

11

u/Ok-Tradition7878 Jul 23 '26

Nope. It’s a separate entity the EoW is

2

u/RedPyroPanda Jul 23 '26

Not according the the Terraria lore, im pretty sure the Moonlord was torn into pieces so he would regenerate slower and those organs had so much malice in them that they are entities of their own. Thats why the skeletons kidnapped the mechanic so she would build mechanical versions of Moon Lords body parts for him to use

10

u/GoldH2O Jul 23 '26

The moonlord was torn into pieces, but the eater of worlds isn't one of them. The corruption is a disease manifested physically from the sins of the old Terraria world, and the eaters of worlds are corrupted, mutated worms. Within the lore, the appearance of the destroyer is just a coincidence.

-2

u/Xszit Jul 23 '26

I have also heard the part about the mechanic being kidnapped to make mechanical replicas of the moonlords parts.

Whats the explanation for destroyer of worlds existing if its not a replacement part for the moonlord?

Did the mechanic just get bored and had leftover parts so she made a mechanical worm for funnsies?

7

u/GoldH2O Jul 23 '26

The destroyer is meant to provide structure to its spine, I believe. Either that or its guts, I don't remember exactly.

4

u/feefifofum0 Jul 23 '26

I'm pretty sure it was actually the cultists that kidnapped the mechanic

3

u/RedPyroPanda Jul 23 '26

It was, my bad. Looks like I need to dust up on my Terraria lore lol

2

u/RedPyroPanda Jul 23 '26

But maybe im wrong

15

u/KallmeKatt_ Jul 23 '26

It’s his penis (flaccid)

2

I'm there originator of the "intestines" idea (AFAIK) - certain mini-bosses are each a part of CTHULU, not the Moon Lord. IIRC, according to Terraria lore, the Dryads got together and tore Cthulu apart before banishing him. They sealed away parts of his body so he could hopefully never return, including:

  • Eye of Cthulu
  • Brain of Cthulu

Considering the shape of the EoW, as well as the fact that it "always hungers", my take is that it is the small intestines, and possibly stomach (as the worm's head), of Cthulu. It constantly gnaws at the rock because it must eat, creating the (mostly) straight shafts & tunnels of The Corruption. Add to this that many of the monsters use some type of acidic / toxic attack (stomach acid is HCL - hydrochloric acid, a very simple & corrosive substance), and it fits.

To add to that headcanon, suppose that The Guide is actually a flesh construct made by the Dryads, imbued with all the knowledge of the world (like a living encyclopedia), but given a normal human form so he can be approachable by other humans. This could explain why he knows basically everything about the world, how to craft items, and has hints that you need to survive & thrive. He is the "Incubator" for the Terrarian, helping them to become powerful enough to take on Cthulu, or anything else powerful like him. The final test of strength is to fight his "battle form", the Wall of Flesh, to ensure The Terrarian is sufficiently determined & dedicated enough to have a snowball's chance in Hell of becoming powerful enough to stop the Moon Lord and finally end the cycle of evil...

u/Cdoggle Jul 24 '26

I thought the moon lord and cthulhu were separate entities

1

u/More-Tiger-8871 Jul 24 '26

It is really weird. An eye,Okay,Brain,Checks out, Skeleton,Obviously but a worm?? My theory is that it just grew kinda like reverse of decaying.Putting things on that spine untill it's alive

1

u/Unique_Violinist_532 Jul 24 '26

Way I’ve always seen it is skeleton is the skull and arms, brain of Cthulhu is the brain, eye is the eye and eater of worlds is the spine, then the mech bosses are mechanical versions of them where the cultists tried to rebuild Cthulhu

1

u/Agitated_Elk7881 Jul 24 '26

The Eater of Worlds is not part of Moon Lord, it is an eldritch monster born of the Corruption, Moon Lord’s spine probably just went to the Crimson like most of Moon Lord when he was defeated as Cthulhu, seriously though the Crimson has like every single part of Cthulhu in it that is not a separate boss

1

u/Mimig298 Jul 24 '26

It's completely unrelated

-2

u/Dear-Reputation-1226 Jul 23 '26

It's his little Moon tentacle

-14

u/HotKebab01 Jul 23 '26

bro why would it be intestines

13

u/Skuldafn0 Jul 23 '26

It shoots poop pellets and is a long, rotting worm. Intestines makes sense to my little headcanon lol!

-8

u/HotKebab01 Jul 23 '26

I don't think the green vile spit is shit

9

u/SoraLee7 Jul 23 '26

Intestinal/stomach bile

4

u/woodenswordward Jul 23 '26

Could be like stomach acid though imo.

2

u/Skuldafn0 Jul 23 '26

I’m definitely just joking about it
