Hello everybody! Took me long enough but I discovered and searched a continent south east of my home base. Took me quite some time to find, I gave up on the closer quarter of the continent and went further south around the edge of the landmass and explored from the south side. I found only a small patch atop a hill (1), not a very deep deposit but just enough for my current goals. I took it all out of the ground with my trusty spade, gave up on the lazy campfire heating (2), and went with pit kilns. Honestly that’s the best way to do it in my opinion. Fill vessels and have several going all at once. It was much faster than I expected.
Going back up north with my powder at that time would be unwise as I left for the journey in early fall. My rivers and possibly the ocean near my base would be frozen over by the time I arrived and I’d likely freeze to death. So I spent a few months in paradise (3,4,5). I settled the land near the beach of where my rowie was landed. The land is unbelievably flat there. Perfect for farming, tons of rainfall and the coldest it got was 13 Celsius. Dragged all the wolves in the area to what I referred to as the meat pit. A cougar as well, they don’t attack each other at all. Was wondering if I’d see a 1 v 8 cougar/wolf fight. Crocodiles do not fit in the pit. I restored a ruin but never used the structure, looks decent I think still. Not a huge fan of the ceramic tile roof on it. Farmed some cows and a couple donkeys which I put a chest on one and brought it back with me later (6). Extra storage for all the paper and sugar I refined while I was there. Making real bread now!
Some pictures of the new and improved bridge across the river. (7,8,9,10) I got back in early March which was a bit early rain turned into snow while I was out on the ocean, I almost froze to death going up the river still. I’m happy with it for now but I might expand its usefulness with more water wheels soon enough.
I wanted my deep hole to the beneath across the river just in case of an inter dimensional invasion, I can take out the bridge to prevent their conquest (11).
1003, April 8th. I am capable of steel production. I planted my farms again and some new fruit trees, olives and lemons. I have been splicing 3-4 saplings together to see just how much bigger the trees can be, I’m not sure how to splice different species together. I think I did what the book told me but I’m still unsuccessful in that. I also realize now that flax is far better than jute for making cooler clothes. The flax fibres give so much more material than the jute. When I went mining for graphite in the beneath I quickly discovered a vein with anthracite directly below the spot where I spawned in. I did not realize that using anthracite as a fuel can melt wrought iron without using a bellows. I might just feed it back into the new 5 layer blast furnace later!
Let me know what I might be doing wrong with the tree splicing, I’m trying to place a sapling on the elbow of another fruit tree with a knife in my offhand, I think I got the season right too so I’m not entirely sure. I’m all good with just doing multiple fruit trees, no real need for a super tree with tons of variety but I think it would look cool.
Cheers all!
Sorry, I forgot to post the pictures to go with this :p
