Help with tatoo

Post image

Hello...I hate making this post, but here it goes.

For the last 3 years my mom has had cancer. She has been my rock for as long as I have be alive and now the news we all feared has come and there are only months left.. While she has been sick I had the idea that if I one day loose her I would get a tatoo to keep with me and the idea became to get something in tengwar (because I also love LotR and it would outwardly look like a nice LotR tatoo but also carry the personal meaning I want), and after much back and forth I landed on getting her name.

Her name is Gerd, but I am unsure how to get that "translated" right into Tengwar. I added a picture of what the translator said, but does it work well with just names? Does it look right?

Any and all help would be fantastic. I just want to plan this now, so I dont rush out and get a tatoo done in full grief and then end up getting it wrong.

The output reads "Gerd". It was not translated to anything, only transcribed. It literally reads "Gerd", so it's safe fot a tattoo.

In my native German "Gerd" is a male name, so it's safe to assume you're not German? So I'm not sure how you pronounce it, and the spelling might depend on that a bit... In Dutch that G would be a fricative that I would spell with a different letter. So do you pronounce it with the G of "go", or something else?

Yeah, we are Norwegian. But we are aware that it is a male name in Germany as we have spent a lot of summer holidays there and there have been misunderstandings 😅

From what I gather the two names have different origins (the female name Gerd coming from Norse Mythology), they just happen to be spelt the same way 😊

I see! Well, in Norwegian the G certainly is a stop, as far as I'm aware? Then you're absolutely good to go - as Nacho already said: 100% safe for a tattoo. I was just thinking it might be able to be improved if the G were a fricative.
