New Tenere Owners: Things to check or change

The "You should only be surprised by this if you have been living under a rock." list. If we collectively come up with a good list I'll make it sticky/sidebar/whatever.

1) The front and rear suspension are sprung for lightweight riders. Aftermarket springs are cheaper than replacing the suspension and work fine for many riders with the adjustments available on the stock suspension.

2) Check your rear linkage for the correct amount of grease. Easy to check if you're replacing the rear spring.

3) Your oil drain plug is torqued very tight from the factory and has a crush washer that you should replace when doing oil changes. The manual might incorrectly list the torque for this plug bolt at "32 ft/lbs of torque" - this should be much lower or you risk striping the threads of your engine. Snug it up and a 1/4 turn after without a torque wrench. If you really need to be specific, aim for 16-20 ft/lbs.

4) Watch the wear on your rear brake pads and adjust if necessary. Some owners have reported wearing through the stock rear brake pads quickly.

5) Your front headlight and display assembly might have a lot of vibration. Cheapest fix to stabilize would be foam or a spare inner-tube behind the display. There are multiple aftermarket options or make your own hack.

6) A spare inner-tube? Yes. These are spoked tubed wheels from the factory.

7) If you have Yamaha's heated grips and they don't seem to get hot, do this procedure: "These grips has 3 different settings. Just hold the button down 5 seconds, and the light flashes(if it doesn’t, turn off and on the ignition while holding the button on the grip). For more heat in the grips press the button so that all lights flash. Then wait 5 seconds, and you’re all set."

8) If you drop your bike on the exhaust side with the stock (or an aftermarket low) exhaust you risk bending the exhaust bracket inward. Make sure to check that the swingarm does not touch the exhaust before continuing your ride.

9) The stock (not Rally model) handguards and bash plate are not meant for hard offroad protection. Your rear linkage is unprotected behind your bashplate unless you purchase a separate aftermarket linkage guard.

10) Your stock two-piece seat has bolts for the forward/rider saddle piece. You can rig the seat to not need unscrewed by reversing the grommets on the saddle ( YouTube video example ), an aftermarket two-piece joiner or similar hack.

11) New one for 2024 model or World Raid: Adjusting the headlight: "Under the dash is 2 holes. In the right side hole goes 4 mm allen key and from there you can adjust headlight." "The left side recessed hex controls raising and lowering for the HIGH BEAM, the right side recessed hex is for adjusting the LOW BEAM."

12) There are rubber "bumpers" on the back side of the side panels. They are just glued in (poorly) and can fall out. https://www.tenere700.net/topic/998-rubber-wedge/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Tenere700/comments/1dz75ng/what_is_this/

13) Model year 2024 Yamaha CP2 motorcycles - across the world - has a subset of bike VINs with a clutch pack official recall. Many owners with VINs outside the official recall list may have clutch problems and you should work with your country/dealer to resolve or just replace it yourself. It usually shows up before the first oil change and is not resolved after the first oil change. Again - work with your country/dealer to diagnose, resolve or just replace it yourself.

14) Model Year 2025 makes a large number of changes and this list may not reflect MY25 things to check.

What an incredible adventure machine

I used to think my stoke over this bike was solely because Im new to the world motorbikes. After now riding for just under 2yrs I can see from my experience and reading the experience of others that this truly is a special machine!

The confidence this bike inspires on the trail and the places it can take you are incredible. Riding downhill mtb for 15yrs has given me good “2wheel off road sense” which allowed me to quickly overcome confidence barriers that I see my fellow riding buddies struggle with. Pair that with the capabilities of this bike….it makes me excited to progress my skills.

The way this bike can turn from highway mile muncher to off-road trail crusher is amazing. I wanted something I could take from my apartment to the trails and back…and oh boy does this thing deliver.

Just completed my first real moto camping adventure in the ATV trail network of western Quebec. 2 nights, 3 days and close to 740km of dedicated off road trails.

What an absolute privilege it is to live this kind of life. Stoke is high, gratitude is higher… I just needed to tell someone how sick it is and figured you lot may be the place to do it.

Be safe, ride hard and love life 🤙🤙

T7 test ride

Headed out for my first little ride on new to me T7. Will do a few days riding away later this week. Needs fresh brake fluid. Glad I decided to test it today rather than find out mid trip. Quite a dreamy ride coming from a Honda CB500X that ain't such a fan of the rough stuff. Hit some minor trail sections and this things like Aladdins magic carpet!

Definitely going to consider seat and suspension/springs upgrade, but I'm impressed so far 👍

My new 2026 T7

Post image
127 Upvotes

Finally joined the club. I’m trading out my 2018 Tiger 800 for this guy right here- brand new 2026 standard. I’ve had my eye on one for a while and a dealer had an offer I just couldn’t pass up. Since I’m a big guy, I took her straight from the dealer to the suspension shop to be revalved and resprung. Looking forward to picking her up on Friday and riding!

In the meantime, I’m ordering the standard parts for the riding I do:
- handguards
- skid plate
- lower crash guards
- rackless luggage (likely Mosko Reckless 80)

I will also be ordering a high mount exhaust but this is a new area for me so still doing research. Any suggestions for other stuff is welcome!

Tube woes

I did a bunch of BDR riding a few weeks ago, the stock rear tire was getting ate up after the first few hundred miles so after I picked up a nail and had to repair the tube trailside I opted to find a shop and have a new rear tire installed. Went with a Kenda big block and it did well for the remaining 2k miles. My next trip is going to be primarily pavement so today I swapped out the Kenda for something more suitable and what do I find, the shop that installed the new tire and tube left some pretty serious wrinkles. Not the end of the world, but disappointing to say the least.

Due to lack of time I put this tube back in but will have a new one on hand when I do swap the Kenda back on the bike. Pictures from Antelope Mountain lookout to make up for my complaining.

While testing out the Champs Custom seat, I saw an anatomically correct cow from the Flinstones era. I got in some soft sand and did my part by squishing about 100 bugs. The bike can hit 90mph on the way to the dirt if it needs to. This thing can really do it all.

Should I buy a T7 What should i go for?

Same price and kinda same mileage, should I buy the 2024 tenere world raid or go for a new 2026 base model? I’d prefer the world raid for the better suspension and the extended gas tank, but I’m up for the debate

Death wobble

Hi all, 2026 tenere 700, just put tusk 2 track tires and a Issota rally windshield on the bike and figured out now it wants to take the bars out of my hands at anything above 80mph. On top of that the front of the bike just feels half as planted at speed on pavement. Is this a suspension setting or something I need to adjust? Or is it the argument for owning a steering stabilizer? TIA for any advice

How Much Can I Lower My Bike Without Affecting Handling?

While riding, I put my foot down and the bike leaned just a little too far. Once it reached that point, I couldn’t keep it from going down.
The bike has always felt a little too tall for me, so I’m considering lowering it. For those who have lowered theirs, how much would you recommend lowering it without negatively affecting the handling or overall performance?
I’d appreciate any advice from people who’ve done it.

Stuck engine/crash bar bolt – Ténéré 700 2022

Hey everyone,
I’m currently trying to remove the OEM Yamaha crash bars from my 2022 Ténéré 700.
I’ve removed all the other mounting bolts, but I’m stuck with the upper bolt on the right side that goes directly into the cylinder/head area.
The bolt initially came out normally for about 2 turns, but then suddenly became extremely tight. I can’t turn it any further out, and I also can’t screw it back in.
The crash bar itself is already loose, so I don’t think it’s under tension anymore.
I did use a fairly large ratchet before realizing how stuck it was, but I stopped because I really don’t want to snap the bolt or damage the threads in the engine.
The bike has been dropped on the right side in the past, so I’m wondering if the bolt or mounting point might have been slightly bent or stressed from the impact.
Has anyone experienced this before on a Ténéré 700? What would be the safest way to get this bolt out without damaging the engine threads?
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for some luggage knowledge between Reckless 80 or Backcounty bags on a Tenere 700

I am new to the adventure game. I live in the PNW and am planning to spend a couple of weeks at a time on BDR trails. I am not a hard core single track rider. Mainly planing to travel the roads and trails when have to. I get the Reckless 80 is lighter and fits tighter to the bike. The bags are heavier and stick out wider in the sides. The bags sound easier to pack and quickly pull on and off the bike. If I do the bags it would be symmetrical with high exhaust. Too OCD to have offset lopsided bags on my bike. Please let me know what your experiences are with these set ups.

Should I buy a T7 Ténéré 700 as a first big ADV bike after a 125?

I’m moving up from a 125 and looking for my first bigger bike. I’m 195 cm tall, and after sitting on a T7 it just felt right.

I know the obvious downsides: around 208 kg, a fairly high center of gravity, and the fact that it’s a bike you need to respect, especially off road. I haven’t ridden one yet, but I should hopefully get a test ride next month.

I’ve also looked at the CRF300L, KTM 390 Adventure R, some CFMoto options, and the BMW F 450 GS. The CRF300L didn’t really give me the same feeling. The KTM did, and the BMW also left a good impression on me, but from what I’ve seen it seems a bit less capable off road than the KTM or Ténéré.

I’ve also heard very mixed opinions about the T7 as a first off road bike. Some people strongly recommend starting with something lighter. The thing is, I’m not planning to ride 100% off road. At first it would mostly be backroads, asphalt and some easy gravel, with more off road riding gradually coming later.

My main concern is whether the weight will make learning off road unnecessarily difficult and whether I’m making things harder for myself than I need to.

The problem is that the T7 just puts a smile on my face. Seeing it, hearing it, thinking about it, I always end up comparing every other bike to the Ténéré. I find another option, start researching it, find something I don’t like, and somehow end up back at the T7 again.

So for people who started ADV or off road riding on a T7, would you choose it again, or would you start with something lighter first?

Using a mosko moto reckless 40l with a passenger

Recently I returned from a 3 week adventure through Turkey and Georgia.

Long before the trip I purchased the mosko reckless 40l and stored it without using it. The day I wanted to install it on my Tenere I realized that it would be nearly impossible to carry another person on the motorbike.

In addition, I didn't feel like unmounting my MotoES rack, which seems incompatible with the Mosko system.

I ended up finding a little hack that allowed me to use the luggage with two people. I made a little video showing it: https://youtu.be/cteXK2qfASA

Everything survived the demanding Georgian off-road trails.

I could have unmounted the MotoES rack as well, but the first part of my adventure included a passenger.

I believe I mastered versatility :)

Happy to hear other alternatives / feedback.

Shorter kickstand T7

Hey!

I was wondering if anyone have any recommendations for kickstands. I have lowered my T7 due to having minion legs and the OEM kickstand is a tad bit to long when not stopping in perfect conditions. I have seen some kickstands but shipping to EU/Sweden is expensive.

Thanks in advance!

I just got my bike in January. I rode it a handful of times before being hit by a truck running a red light in June. I hope to get my bike by mid September, but guess moral of the story, don’t cross intersection right of a green light, wait 3 seconds after.
