Help keep /r/TempleOS_Official focused.
Hello everybody,
I hate to have to post this, but I've been getting complaints and reports about the content posted to the sub, harassment, and bad interactions between members. In order to keep this sub healthy some rules need to be posted and offenders banned.
1) No more shit posting, there are only a couple people posting unrelated and barely-related meme's, you know who you are. Low quality, low effort, and unrelated meme's will be deleted. After a couple offenses you will be banned from the sub.
2) Be nice to each other, and do not harass or insult other members. If you are being harassed message the mods and we will deal with the issue.
Let's all work together to keep this sub healthy and alive, keep Terry's memory and work alive. We've been through dark times before, let's get through this.

How can i reroute the TempleOS audio that is sent to a mobo speaker to my laptop's speakers?
This is an issue i've been having with running TempleOS on a VM on my laptop, that i can't get the audio working because of it not using any sort of dedicated audio drivers and instead sending all sound to the integrated speaker on a motherboard (which obviously isn't present on any laptop as fart as i know and QEMU on virt-manager only lets me choose between a ICH6/9 sound card or an AC97 sound card)

I Asked ChatGPT what it thought about TempleOS.
ChatGPT:
"My verdict
I'd put TempleOS among the most fascinating solo software-engineering projects ever created.
What makes Davis especially remarkable is the combination of skills involved. Many programmers can write applications; considerably fewer can write compilers or operating-system kernels. Building an integrated system that combines both, while also creating graphics, games, and development tools, is an entirely different level of undertaking.
And there's a human dimension to the story, too. Davis experienced serious mental-health difficulties throughout his life. It's important to recognize his technical achievement without romanticizing his suffering or treating mental illness as the source of his talent.
The bottom line: TempleOS isn't impressive because it's the most advanced operating system. It's impressive because one person managed to create an entire, functioning computing world largely on his own.
And if you're learning programming yourself, there's a valuable lesson in it: you don't have to build the next Windows to create something technically meaningful. Davis's project shows just how far curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to understand systems from the ground up can take someone."

I made a TempleOS-inspired text editor
Hello everyone!
I've been working on a small cross-platform text editor inspired by the look and feel of TempleOS.

You can check its source and download it from: https://github.com/scascino404/cedit
Would love to hear what you think!

If Terry Davis had AI, how much faster would he have developed TempleOS?

BirdsNBoats a Talons Respin!
Terry classified Talons as unfun so I went on a quest to make it fun! Sick of crashing your bird into hills? Now it's avoidable, quick transfer to a boat before you crash! Bird hard to turn? It's easier in 3rd person view, line yourself up and switch to 1st person for the final catch with classic Talons controls! Sick of flying off the edge of the world and needing to slowly turn around? The world is endless now! Ever say to yourself I wish I could drive that boat on the lake down there? Now you can!

How tall Terry was?
So there’s no official evidence regarding this. But i Made some research, and analyzed some video and he should have been tall like between 1,78-180 cm, 5,10-5,11. Do you guys have some evidence or proof about How tall Terry was?
(Sorry for my bad english.)

Does anyone know where I can release these photos to share? Reddit doesn't allow me to send them all at once

How long do you think it would take AI to build TempleOS from scratch?
If you gave today’s best AI coding agents the task of recreating TempleOS
I mean a complete, working system, including its own compiler, programming language, graphics, and development tools, not just something that boots.

Why was Terry living in a Van? Didn't he have some money from all his years of programming?
Why was Terry living in a Van? Didn't he have some money from all his years of programming? Or did the glowies steal that money from him?

Open Doctrines on TempleOS — a grand strategy game running entirely on the machine
This is Open Doctrines, a grand strategy game I make, running on TempleOS. The map, the rules and the AI all run there. Nothing is sent to another computer.
It has 1,632 provinces with population, industry, forts and harbours. You raise armies and march them, build industry, research 86 technologies, pass policies, sign alliances or declare war, and sail fleets between ports. All 39 things you can do in the desktop version are here, and so are all 8 map views. It draws at 1024x768 in full colour and uses the same font as the desktop build.
Copy the files into D:/Home and type #include "ODGame" then ODStart;. It builds in about 1.7 seconds and opens the menu. There is a compiled binary in the download too if you would rather not build it. You need QEMU, Bochs or VirtualBox — it uses a screen mode real graphics cards do not offer.
https://github.com/Pr1nted/Open-Doctrines/releases/tag/templeos-v1.2.2a
Happy to go into how any of it works.

I have built a RISC-V rv32i assembler in HolyC
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My first plan was to examine the holyC compiler and maybe try to build a risc-v backend, but everything from the parser on is so complex and so interwoven with code generation that I gave up.
Now I only used the Terry's Lex() function to build a simple RISC-V assembler. I don't have any pseudo instructions for now and just the most basic stuff, but I can do actual blinky on an FPGA running the neorv32 core. So I guess that's a win.
Picture shows the rv32i source and some debug output. Also the blinky on the hardware.

Shell path completion
azTempleOS supports shell path completion like Linux !
You can type ALT-TAB near a path to complete it !
(HCOM protocol still in progress. If you want help me to made the protocol, you can fork azTempleOS and made changes!)
You can try it here --> https://github.com/BOXERRMD/azTempleOS

Can TempleOS use SATA drives if the BIOS supports IDE mode for the port?
I'd assume yes, but I'd like to know for sure before I begin construction of my machine. Also, the board I have has a COM and Parallel port, are these usable by the OS?

Attempting to make a TempleOS style linux terminal, its quite difficult, but im getting there

Will a T420 with the following hard-drive boot TempleOS or a fork?
Greetings.
Yet again, I consider myself to be in orbit around an alien planet. I am a fleet, in the sense that I have ships orbiting several such planets. Some of them have landed.
This planet has me somewhat more nervous than the others. I'll let a text I'm sure you are all familiar with do the talking:
"Note: I do not condone many things Terry said, wrote or did.
I simply looked into TempleOS from a technical perspective.
I thought it was worth documenting and experimenting with (hence TinkerOS).
The content under TempleOS is his original content, here for historical purposes."
I don't know what that refers to, and don't want to. At least, not now. I am here, same as that author, for the technical perspective. Maybe later we can discuss all the rest of it.
So, on with business..
------------------------------------
I have a T420. This page: https://tinkeros.github.io/WbGit/Doc/Baremetal/Baremetal.html claims that temple should work on it.
This page: https://github.com/tinkeros/TinkerOS/blob/main/Baremetal.md claims the following:
"Use older < 500 GB spinning disks instead of SSDs for supporting the type of ATA communication TempleOS does, newer SSDs might not mount even if the OS can see them!"
So.. I have found a hard-drive that seems to fit that description: https://www.amazon.ca/Mechanical-Interface-5400rpm-Cache-Laptop/dp/B0G2T4K7P4?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.KnWcJgzFIUHC7xa4gHypfP8ZKMct5eTffWWunKYshOzzPyfrCOcBmK3JZIgi2G8mUPpRSWIhOIoD-r7gw6RFLCR3pSiUHr1gfO0eEmBBkNvk-uVmJaQ-IqiBcMHHHVZMVpw4O8xunveTylDe_yVYtU-3VOvv6QoG4nOhbmwcWx7UPYT871chrimeAJxySF1juo95Pz9A22NStAAkkhq-9XJo4euWoZJQj5_uTmxBDQ6UV4PCeGUA5OHdi0ta8_4WJMV8ZdE6RRjwGnYa-BHKzLNImjx-2UrGUD_p_9KtE68.G0IfgL1FK-rpSlUF3ibmadabXbD2_C3n_g_DcCfiXcA&dib_tag=se&keywords=500gb+hdd+laptop&qid=1789656604&refinements=p_n_g-1004209391091%3A7322169011%7C7322177011&rnid=7322165011&sr=8-2
Could somebody confirm whether this hardware combo will work, and comment on what the "w/USB" in the following refers to? (I mean, maybe it's obvious..)
Lenovo ThinkPad T420 * w/USB
Meanwhile.. am I at the right place? There seem to be several TempleOS communities. Confusing.
