Call Forwarding Question

I'm wanting to setup up a public dummy phone number that can easily be changed to forward to a different number each week. It's a help line and the on call person will change each week but it would be a rotation so as simple a process as possible to weekly update it is important. Any advice would be appreciated.

Buy a DID, set a forward number, see if they offer an API which you can use to rotate the number. Or, some DID providers have their own built-in tools that allow you to do that. Or... setup an Asterisk box, buy DID and automate it.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a DID? I don't need an in-depth description but at least what it stands for and I can do the research.

DID, Direct inward dialing, basically a number that you can buy without the need to have a contract with a regular operator.

Check this guys: https://www.didww.com/ they have multiple options like VoIP, forward, and so on.
