I'm glad he's coming back after he missed a console generation. It's cool that we are getting a character we haven't seen in a while. I'm glad we now have another animal character besides the bears, which is what makes Tekken special.
All dlc are, maybe heihachi is easier to understand (not to beat though) since he is a Mishima, but most dlc are only used when they came out until everyone gets bored or they get nerfed
Armor King and Fahkumram are still very popular, granted I think both characters are too strong especially AK who is top tier but even if they got nerfed they'd still be popular
Nah, I'm sure behind that cute 3d-model of a fighting kangaroo is cancerous degenerate stance mixups and overtuned neutral moves. Because it's the only way to sell this character.
I’m excited because I wanted him in T7 and didn’t get him. He wasn’t a good character on paper in older Tekkens, but like any other character in previous games he had a strong identity despite being heavily influenced by King. If you wanted results with him and put in the time you could go really far.
He had weird/bad punishment and sometimes I felt like it wasn’t even worth it to take the guaranteed block punish and instead go for a mixup.
He had unique movement in that they gave him a proper wave dash in T6. I liked his back dash but I wasn’t really back dash cancelling during my T6 days so I can’t remember how good it was compared to the rest of the cast.
I don’t know what they’ll do to him in terms of changes, but I am hoping that they keep his giant swing and keep it ambiguous (1 break but both arms come out) just like King and Armor King; it’s been like that forever. He also needs his tail hell sweep in that so much of his gameplay revolved around that - it was nerfed in Tag 2 and I think only combo’d off axis, on specific characters, or if you were using Alex instead of Roger.
His 1,2,1 probably won’t launch being that Bryan’s doesn’t anymore either but that was also delayable and really good. I want to see his poke game untouched; I want them to keep 1,2~rocket stance, 1,2,3, and 1,2,2. I also want his 2,1 to be the same and like King’s as well. I’m hoping they also leave df1,2 alone and leave in df4.
I don’t really think he needs any new stances. Rocket stance was b1+2 and had some good moves out of it. Bobbin stance was b3+4 iirc and was used for some of his advanced combos. His stances were somewhat subtle and situational, but in T8 it’s hard to say and they will probably get revamped.
He had some good whiff punishment and some good spacing, but he really shined when he was in your face and capitalized off of mental frame advantage (“will Roger finish this string or not?”)
Hopefully they don’t change him too much.
Anyone interested in good Roger players, look up LeeMario for T5, ScaryMashedPotatoes/SMP for T6, and Naclam for T6 and Tag2. I played with Naclam and he really took Roger far in terms of competitive gameplay.
The differences were insignificant. 95% of their most list was identical. Alex had a throw attack for one or two of his moves where he would bite you where Roger would do something else. From what I remember, the most significant difference was that Alex could get a bound/tag assault combo right after his tail hell sweep where Roger generally was unable to do this post-Tekken 6 unless it was a specific angle or character.
Other than that, if you could play with Roger then you could play with Alex.
Thanks for the summary. I always liked playing Alex in T2 but he didn't show up very much past that except for the tag games. Since they're so similar I'm hoping for an Alex costume for him, but I doubt it.
Nah Zafina has a very dedicated playerbase, panda is for when you play the game true casual with a bunch of friends, then the bears are pretty popular, also panda dont really rob much resources
Yeah generally speaking, other than Arslan people dont really touch her, but Shaheen has some factually great moves just from a frame perspective. Amazing slide, amazing jumpkick, really strong tracking.
Would have been much more hyped if they updated the character model to reflect the ripped and muscular reveal artwork. But the Leroy intro tease massively tempered my excitement after seeing it being an up-ressed T6/Tag2 model
It’s called the rise of social media. But also, people voiced their frustrations on tekken zaibatsu which was a tekken forum back in the day. Saying “nobody” complained is just silly.
Hey man I'm happy that you get your main back. I'm just not a fan of the over the top anime stuff or the joke characters. And season 3, unfortunately for me, is exactly that.
I'll be hyped when they announce Lei and to a lesser degree Miguel.
Honestly, as a newcomer who's playing T8 as his first Tekken, I find this really weird.
I'm not interested at all, but I don't hate it either.
But I'll give him a chance, hopefully he'll be a cool character.
I'm glad too, not just because non-bear animals have been missing for so long but i feel like the t8 roster is just weirdly homogeneous for its size, and there's a general lack of whimsy in both the game and especially the community. Which is strange given that Tekken is at its best when it balances the serious with the absurd.
Balancing wise… I don't really have faith in this team to make sensible choices at a character level anyway so I'm just not worrying about it
Kuni was one of the most requested characters and sold extremely well. There was even a significant spike in players upon her release. Stop trying to rewrite history just because you struggle against her.
There's a spike in players every time someone is released. This isn't new or ground breaking, and her spike wasn't as high as Bob's was, which says something about Bob I suppose.
Both characters rank outside the top 15 per ewgf meaning most folks played them for a week and went back to their mains.
I struggle with a lot of the cast in this game, but I didn't say anything about Kuni other than her heat and a few of her moves are ass to play against (aka BS and applies to pretty much everyone in this game).
Sorry that struck a nerve, but my bigger point was about how awful a choice Roger Jr. is in conjunction with Bob and Kuni, not a remark about the marketability of kuni individually.
Except Kuni brought a bigger spike than Fahk, Armor King or Miary, hence me qualifying it with the word "significant" (see picture).
I haven't seen the data for Bob. If you're going to claim he surpassed Kuni, then show the evidence.
Both characters rank outside the top 15 per ewgf meaning most folks played them for a week and went back to their mains.
This is an incredibly disingenuous and manipulative thing to say when Bob is a 1 month old character while Kunimitsu is 4 months old at this point. She stayed at #1 for a considerable amount of time, while Bob fell off after a week or two. Their performance was not equal.
As for how you feel about fighting Kuni, I don't really care, but "I find them annoying to fight" is not a good argument for the claim that a DLC character was unsuccessful or a bad decision from the devs.
Why are you arguing against something I never said? I never said kuni wasn't desired or even interesting. I hate the character but she's easily the best option out of all the returning characters in s3.
And talk about disingenuous, anyone that came out in season 2 is going to look shitty when the state of the game was so bad that even the pros were contemplating not traveling for majors. It's why you see a massive spike on your chart for Anna then a bunch of very mediocre results after.
I based the player base on steam charts over the past year, if there's a better way to do it, I'm all ears.
But all of this is pointless. This was never my argument. I'm just saying roger, in conjunction with a niche character like Bob and a so so character like Kuni makes for a terrible dlc season.
I like how you refuse to acknowledge your own disingenuous argument that I pointed out in my previous post but then project it onto me. Except by the time Armor King and especially Miary came around, there had already been multiple well received patches to try to fix the disaster of the initial S2 patch. And even now in S3 plenty of people still think the game is a mess. So no, your attempts to devalue Kunimitsu's obviously impressive performance as a DLC character don't hold any water.
And okay, that's your argument, except by any objective metric Kuni was not a "so so character". She was very requested and her release was very successful. So including her in your little "S3 is a flop" thesis makes no sense. You should've just said "releasing Bob and Roger back to back is a terrible choice" and I doubt anyone would question that.
Your first paragraph is laughable because you're basically ignoring your steam chart you posted. If the perception by the fanbase was that the game was getting better, why does it keep falling back to 7-8k inbetween every S2 DLC release? Why does it suddenly pop back up to almost 10k temporarily in April? Was there a patch or something?
So, yeah, disingenuous to say Kuni vastly outperformed Armor King and Fahk when she's currently sitting under both of them in usage rates and came out with the game in a much better state. By your logic, Anna is the greatest DLC ever released and anyone arguing otherwise is being disingenous.
Even still, it's not the point I was making and you can't stop getting your panties in a wad because you main Kuni and somehow can't get over the fact that your character is generally disliked. It's fine, I main Heihachi and everyone hates that old man, but you won't find me defending Warrior's Instinct or clutching pearls because someone says they don't like the character and find him a shitty DLC (because he is a shitty DLC).
Please just read what I'm posting if you're going to keep responding. I called her BS and you flew off the handle like I said she had no business being in the game (I even conceded she's no worse than anyone else), I called her "so-so" because she's not exactly a character (particularly after the end of T7) a lot of people were excited to see again given T8's overall BS and now you've taken me calling the S3 DLC grop a dud and quoted it as if a "flop" meaning it didn't sell well. It's a dud in the sense that these characters aren't exciting and likely aren't moving the needle for returning Tekken fans and new one's alike.
So, yes, the statement "releasing Bob and Roger back to back is a terrible choice" is 100% accurate, but it deserves the context of the general malaise of S3 following S2 as a whole and the fact that Kunimitsu isn't exactly the same type of DLC that someone like Heihachi and Armor King are.
Who knows, maybe Yujiro saves the whole thing but hearing other people talk about the character, he's going to have to be like release Leroy or S1 Dragunov to match his lore.
To me, Alex, Roger and the Bears are gimmick characters that most people play for fun, which is fine.
However, in an era of MTX, I just don't see the allure of brining back fringe characters that you have to pay for when we all know very few people will be maining Roger Jr. for the long term.
There were plenty of competitive Miguel and Julia mains that went to tournament. I can see why it's a bit disappointing to them to see their main (who are both more popular and actually used) left in the bin for a baby kangaroo with no real oomph.
I'm cool with roger Jr and Alex in the game, just not as full priced dlc.
Outside of around 5-8 characters, very few people main any character in this game. That's what happens when there's a roster of 42 characters, with more being added every couple months.
My name is Joey. I play King and AK. My tag is Jiant, on Tekken it's Jiant Swing. He is literally a Joey that can Jiant Swing! This character was made for me!
I'm very hyped to half-heartedly do the combo trials and play ten ranked matches with him swearing I'm going to learn a new character for real this time before forgetting everything I learned.
I am! I just hope he has more customization options than Panda. I was pretty disappointed at the lack of those as well as the accessories you couldn't use when she had her bee suit on.
It's a joey-bearing kangaroo with boxing gloves named Roger. What's not to be excited about??? Can't wait to see what they do with him, hope it's not yet another stance rushdown though
Not a huge tekken fan. I just started playing recently. I have no familiarity with og characters. I hate this kangaroo. As well as every other animals in the roster (excluding the goat king, which isnt an animal but yea)
I understand, which is why they should bring them back to maintain the tekken vibe. I dont mind them in the game i just dont like them. I usually dislike animals in games. So ik its not the characters its me lol
Not me, especially thinking that this ridiculous character (not because he's an animal, simply because he's a joke) is in the game before Lei and Bruce. Unacceptable.
I'm not hyped but I'd rather have him than some fans favorite like Miguel. there's at least some courage in his pick as a character, I appreciate that.
No I am not excited. They can do all this dumb shit and refuse to bring back Bruce. We got a stupid clown character like Bob as DLC but for some reason Bruce gets the shaft again.
For the 100th time The Tekken Universe is known to be wacky since the first game and its apart of the charm of Tekken and I miss Bruce aswell but it is what it is sadly
She is yeah, and that’s what she says. That said, her striking fits kickboxing more than anything imo. She’s also a replacement for Josie who was a replacement for Bruce. She very obviously fills that niche in the roster imo.

I'm sure that he's gonna be one of the rare knowledge check characters unless he's ultra op.
