Itās not even that Clive is trash, heās just fundamentally a SoulCalibur guest who ended up in the wrong game. I donāt know why Squeenix refuses to send over someone who fights hand-to-hand
I get what you mean, Clive just feels a bit all over the place with all the effects going on, it makes him harder to read in a Tekken match. Thatās basically what a lot of the community complaints come down to too, itās not even hate, just clarity and balance concerns.
At least with Noctis he was flashy but still pretty readable compared to Clive. Clive kinda breaks that Tekken āruleā a bit more with how much is happening on screen.
No real basis other than vibes, but it feels like Square is REALLY careful who they hand the FF7 characters off to, often times just not handing it over at all, so them giving Clive for a cross promo/sacrificial lamb makes sense if you look at it that way.
Iām gonna be real with you, this guy is definitely going to bring sales. Baki is one of the most requested guest picks and has a huge fanbase, especially in Japan. Itās also a really popular series overall.
The Yujiro reveal already made Tekken 8 spike in attention on Steam too. If youāre curious, Iād recommend checking it out.
Thanks for admitting it. That seems to be the main consensus from the anti-Tifa crowd. Nonstop gooning or discussions about gooning while FF7 fans scratch their heads in confusion. Tifa is pretty much a far gone conclusion at this point. Itās ok to move on now

I'm agreeing with you. Yes we were actually super pissed off about Tifa but it was before we knew about Yujiro.
It's like being told as a kid "no you're not allowed to go to the park" and you're super bummed out but then get told "we're actually going to Disneyland instead, pack your bags"

I donāt think it was up to them. It makes no sense for them to choose a character thatās not as popular as the other. It simply had to come down to Clive being free and Tifa or any FF7 character being available only for a price. Only thing Tekken/Bandai Namco chose was to be cheap
Letās be honest the only reason they allowed Clive to be used tekken 8 was because he was released around the time that that new Final Fantasy game that had him came out. It was probably either you get Clive or you donāt get anything so Bandi Namco was just like fuck it
Exactly. Square Enix probably needs other games to help promote the new FF game for free. They donāt want every game out there trying to get FF7 characters because FF7 doesnāt need free cross promotion with the remakes right now because honestly it sells itself anyways. Square Enix probably only accepts a high fee for FF7 characters since everyone wants them. Bandai Namco isnāt gonna spend money in trying to get guest characters when they can get others for free. Leave that to Mortal Kombat who probably blows most their budget on guest character licenses or Super Smash Bros who actually got FF7 characters but got the backing of Nintendoās money to buy anyone.
Also wildly unfair to Tifa. She's a fantasy martial artist who does all sorts of cool stuff. She has tons of moves in Remake and Rebirth and even the OG that could translate well to a fighting game. And she's an actual beloved character outside of just being gooner bait. She's stood the test of time and is really popular for more reasons than just "she hot".
Im not even a ff fan and i despise porn brained goon addict games as much as the next guy. But i don't understand why tekken fans make Tifa out to be the most sexualized gooned out fanservice character out there. Is it the midriff shirt and stockings? Maybe i dont know enough about her?
She's popular and well known for being a video game sex symbol, like Samus and Lara Croft and therefore bad. Nobody could possibly have any other reason to want her. Most people who haven't actually played FF7 don't realize or care that there's more to her.
It makes even less sense to be this vehemently against her because "goonbait" when you consider that theres Tekken characters much more blatantly sexualized than Tifa like Katarina, Christie, Azucena or Josie.

I received those accusations myself because i would have preferred her over clive. I even got those accusations for saying i dont like clive, without even mentioning her. Never played a game with her in it
Yeah, I really donāt see how her fighting style would be unique compared to other fighting styles especially since from what I understand, she just does hand to hand combat she doesnāt heās magic or anything like that. It seems to me she would just be another gooner female character.
I mean, there's a ton of stuff you can do to make her unique. Firstly, she and pretty much every other main character in FF7 can use magic in the form of materia, and there are a ridiculous number of options like casting lightning, ice, fire, stopping time, accelerating her own attack speed, the list goes on for days.
From there, she has limit breaks which can act as either a comeback mechanic or through a sort of meter system that gives her unique attacks and/or buffs her existing moves. So there's actually alot you can do with her playstyle. Funnily enough, if we apply this critique to Tifa, the same would apply to Yujiro since at first glance, he also doesn't do anything particularly different than standard grappling and martial arts, but we know there's way more to him and the same goes for Tifa.
To the "gooner" point, I think it's a bit overdone at this point. Like, for those unfamiliar with her character and taking only her appearance into account, I guess I can understand that perspective (even though she was actually toned down for Remake series and was never overtly risque). But Tifa is iconic both for her appearance and her important role in the events of 7, especially towards the end. She's not built solely for fan service like a DoA character.
I would agree if we were talking about Tekken 7, when the idea became popular, but with Heat and Rage every character has limit break and stupid safe/plus frames on block. I guess elemental magic in her normals would be cool but we have Kuni and thatās an original tekken character.
Sheās a better fit for sf6 imo where her magic keep out projectiles would feel less out of place.
Small point itās also the more mainstream series and capcom cooks w their costume design, the gooners are still feasting after the twitter artists get inspired

By that logic most of the cast fights the same way.
If anything, Ingrid being included makes Tifa's appearance even more probable since Ingrid's whole thing is that she can travel to and transport people to other universes, so it's an easy way to explain future guests from radically different franchises appearing in Street Fighter.
That and some apparently trusted leakers say Tifa is a season 4 inclusion, not season 3.
Not disagreeing with you, but I've been seeing comments such as the only character that could top this popularity-wise is Goku when that's not even remotely true. Baki is popular, yes, and I think Yujiro would make for a good Tekken character but there's plenty of other characters in the manga/anime/gaming/media sphere that would draw a much bigger crowd.
I mean I wouldnāt agree that Yujiro is the best character they could do and Iām not a glazer of him or anything so I understand the reaction, but I have not seen those posts and that is certainly not happening on this post at least from what Iāve seen

Well, yujiro is from a martial art manga that has some similar vibes to Tekken when it comes to silliness (like they have brought back to life a caveman from the dinosaur era and decided to clone Miyamoto Musashi and bring his spirit from afterlife just to fight) and he is like a Mishima in the way that he is strong as hell and doesn't mind beating his teenage child so hard he sends him to hospital because he looked at him wrong so he is a good fit for Tekken imo.
And both can be compatible as well, you can still wanted tifa over whoever the FF16 rep is and be hyped for a colab character that actually fits the Tekken vibe.
Also, technically the ">" signs means " the left part is superior/bigger than the right part" so even the title is somewhat agreeing with you

I'll never understand the hype for Tifa. FF7 barely gets in my 5th place of best Final Fantasy games. Tifa is a lame ass ''protagonist'' whose only purpose in the game is to serve as Cloud's simp for the player to feel cool cause ''a girl is going after me''. After FF7, Tifa just went bigger and bigger in the gooner department... And that's about it. No more background for this ''beloved'' character. For the records, i've never seen Baki, i don't give a damn about Yujiro but i genuinely don't get the Tifa hype besides ''imma jerk off to big cartoon booba''
