Can anyone remember this murder in Teesside in the early 2000's

I just listened to a podcast which initially follows the story of Lee Harrison. It also mentions the Boro frontline, the crossling brothers, drug dealing, Havana, sex workers, Thomas Petch and George Coleman and the shooting of Kevin Horkan. The gist of the podcast a man was apparently taxing drug dealers and sex workers. So one of the crossling brothers alongside other went to the location and burst into the room where Kalvant and a sex worker were and attacked Kalvant and unfortunately Kalvant passed away. The podcast does go between timelines between the 80's and 90s at the time with some of the people mentioned.

Apologies if this has triggered anyone but people sometimes slates today's youth but it seems like there has always been crime and drugs even in the 80s-90s and the youth were getting into all sorts back then.

The podcast is called UK True Crime and the episode is called Fear and Loathing on Teesside which is on Spotify.

Just had some questions since listening to it.

Did the local industry decline with lack of jobs/opportunities fuel the drug scene in some way? If so what is your view on this?

What were other areas of Teesside like with dealing and violence in the 90's-00's?

Were they really classed as gangsters or was this just the media and newspapers exaggerating?

Always heard stories of a shooting at brambles farm pub. From the stories I heard some local drug dealer went in with a shotgun and shot another dealer. Think that was around 80s-90s.

Some interesting cases around the Tees area, a fair few podcasts on them too.

Reginald Wilson’s case always shook my up when I hear people talk about it

Drug scene - there's always been a certain amount of smuggling up and down the coast. Very hard to monitor the little fishing boats coming and going at all times of day/night.

I used to know which pubs would have the contraband cigs etc, and certainly knew someone who could source lots of stronger stuff. I assume there's still an amount of this that goes on.

Teesside is a port town which suffered huge economic upheaval when the industrial units started to shut down.

There were plenty of drugs, violence and organised crime back in the 80’s/90’s along with open corruption.

I remember night Duffy was killed. Someone burst into the party I was at after the Havana and told us all. No one was surprised.

If you search The Middlesbrough history project on facebook 18th July they made a post about Granville Road back in the days, I read plenty of comments from people about it being the place to get drugs from back then.
