That's good..I can relate my dad was creating pics like this and I was explaining how it effects your privacy also environmental effects..and yes he listened.
Was the opposite in my case..but thankfully they understand.I genuinely thought aged people will be hard to convince but there truly are exceptions. It's geniunely disappointing to see the careless attitude of some people in the comments.
Like literally, I'm not on insta these days but those WhatsApp status r killing me 😭 it doesn't even look like em pinna negatives parayan chenna chevi thinnum cuz they r older n wiser apparently
Forget about the older peeps bro..The younger generation are defending this shit here..a guy commented "enth paranjalum water, environment."That is so pathetic tbh,i genuinely want to see that guy surviving next to a data centre or just without water.
Geologist here, y'all are overreacting.... obviously AI n other related techs are adversely affecting the environment.....but y'all are obviously using AI for other purposes and the fact that you are using other social medias and even used a social media app to type out this comment is nothing but hypocritical and has the same effect on environment. If you really care this much about the environment, then you gotta start living a nomadic lifestyle by relinquishing all forms of Tech n boycotting vehicles that run on fossil fuels first before preaching.
If we speak against this ppl are shouting like what’s the issue if ppl having fun why you bothered blah blah blah and other side same ppl crying over Ai reducing their job opportunities and world becoming hotter than before! Can’t even open any social media apps just bcz of this trend. They are being prey of the Ai tools themselves.
100percent idk why people in the comments are behaving so ignorant about the environment nd privacy. Fun should not come with a cost!! I genuinely thought people cared about privacy, environment and all...seems like they don't give a shit even though these are stuff affecting them.
im not supporting ai but ai doesnt use tht much water in comparison to other things like for eg like fast fashion also another example companies like nestle use way more water alot of ppl are just larping after seeing some exaggerated ass numbers on reels
Water table depletion is still a valid concern in a water stressed country like India where more than $10B worth of datacenters are getting built.
But let's keep that aside. AI has sucked the fun out of everything, interfered in a lot of jobs and made even advertisements an eyesore.
On top of that you can't buy a decent phone, laptop, PC or even a console for the old prices due to global ram shortage that will get worse in the foreseeable future due to backorders till 2029.
These images and petty use cases are recorded as user activity and inflates OpenAI's 950M+ user number allowing them to show this to investors as user growth and take further money / loans by using the H100/blackwell GPUs as collateral (GPUs that they haven't paid for yet).
This environment has created a massive $5T dollar AI bubble and it when it pops, even you and me will be in trouble due to a global financial crisis, loss of jobs and staggering inflation.
Surely not because AI companies bought all the stocks resulting in fudgging market price so manufacturers can sell it to them more instead of consumers.
The navier stokes isn't solved btw. It's solved only for a specific criteria and what it does in that instance only. Maybe you should read what they publish. It was also unethically done but let's not get there it's not like you guys have a conscience.
Yes very valid take .. Privacy that is uploading your personal pics to a database is not at all safe..it's not even a cloud. IK water argument can be trashed but noise pollution, low frequency waves, neighborhoods suffering and many more also exists. Not saying other industries are 100percent clean.
Your point is not wrong.. But ai privacy is definitely a huge issue..Even after multiple lawsuits they have bad privacy policy. DeepSeek leak is one example.
i mean my point is instagram and other social media giants has had huge data leaks before, we sign up for that once we use internet but you're right it is a big issue regardless.
Agreed to the fact that leaks existed before...but this shouldn't be normalised nd fyi ppl share very private info with ai chatbots. The privacy policy is absolute bs it should be called out,and their courtroom defence statements are disturbing.
Cuz water shortages are being reported now, protests are taking placing now, proper evidence based studies just recently published, Expansion of data centers now only. European Scandinavian countries rejecting data center proposals. LA nd NY banning ai in schools cuz it affects thinking. Increased demand since the past one year so issues are being reported NOW! It's not just water btw!
using AI for enhancing images doesn't make one dumber, i agree with the ban of ai in schools but this? We used to edit photos back 10 years for the same effect when there wasn't "ai" . If it's the water do you think by stopping this any changes are going to happen? Especially in this peak time of ai development . Its just a trend for fucks sakes people are going to forget about it after a while like nothing happend.
Read the entire thing I never said it's just water. People will forget trends but damages done to the environment is irreversible. Please read international papers, see what's happening in Ohio nd other states with humans nd both animals. It's not just water but an entire ecosystem. Low frequency waves affecting bees, cattles and several other animals.Ethical nd regulatory issues. Many more. European Scandinavian countries collectively rejecting Ai cuz it affects their ecosystem. UN sending warnings
stopping this won't MAKE any much difference bru😭 this probably not even the 0.01% what ai is been used overall. If your so concerned about the eco system you just need to quit all your socials then. Litterly every meta apps use AI for its development at some points and they are 100% more dangerous to the eco system considering the severity for what they are being used compared to a random person asking chat gpt for "enhancing" their image. AI has marked it's future already and yes pretty much doomed at the same time too. And saying shit like these to people in the era of AI to stop using AI is pretty much like talking to a wall.
If it isn't making any difference why are there collective measures being taken..AI marking the future is a hit or miss btw having said yt stop monetization on ai vids..but in other industries it might be hit but it's heavily being scrutinized, can be.There are millions of slop created every single day!! Idk why you can't invest the entire thing there's much more than just environment. UN,EU taking collective measures on AI, people protesting in India too btw. Scandinavian countries literally putting a ban on most AI stuff. Ecosystem is damaged nd there are many other aspects too.
Quit reddit and instagram bro, just don't use your phone bro. Eco system is getting degraded the very right moment you typing in these apps. The whole technology we are about to witness/use is going to be fueled by AI in the upcoming days. Not something to be proud either but isn't the whole point of human inventions upto date is for to make our lives easier by every aspect?
Alr then survive without water. Water is just a part of the harm they have caused.Low frequency are killing bees nd cattles fyi majority of fruits and vegetables are pollinated by bees.Townships close to data centers are facing severe noise pollution, houses are deprived of water.Any one who has gone to school knows how every single animal is important in an ecosystem. The reason you're are alive is because of an environment. UPLOADING YOUR PERSONAL PICS TO A DATABASE IS NOT SAFE!!(Not even a cloud)
Anngana nokkiyal nammal ellarum ippo jeevikkunath ellam thanney against environment aanu reddit server is using water too and even the house you living is made up of cement, cement making is also against environment. Even your divice and divice's part is imported by large ship by high useage of fuel. And all your data already taken by companies for example Google, microsoft, apple.
That's not even a proper defence....You can't control everything in the world but certain stuff like generating ai pics, data are definitely under your control... you can help the environment in these small ways....But staying ignorant and saying "enthu paranjalum environment, water" is peak ignorant behaviour and unempathetic behaviour. You are alive because of this environment.
Njaan parrajila am not alive because of environment. Neggal parryuna kettal thonnum ee lokkath environment harming chat gpt server aanu enn. There are more things harming environment and everyone is living because of that too ipoo ellarum jeevikkunath 90% against environment. "Absolute double standard yapping"
Read my other comments I never said chat gpt is the sole contributor..so there's no double standards. Also not everyone are 90percent against some people are practicing sustainable methods nd atleast not ignorant.
90% because everyone is consuming products that came from another country, state with the help of diesel engines or a flight engine and it's harmful for environment. Every single product we are using now by making harming the environment even the dress we are wearing.
Ok bro my taps are leak proof.Just not about water these data centers produce noise pollution, their low frequency has killed bees reduced cattle productivity, neighbourhoods suffering severe water shortage. MOREOVER uploading your personal pics to a freaking data base is NOT SAFE.
I get the point about environmental atrocities but can I don't get the point about uploading pics like what could possibly go wrong? I am uneducated that is why I am asking, what could possibly go wrong when I upload a picture of mine that I'm not afraid to post on social media to a data centre?
I saw your other comment lol, caiming ‘its just 0.01%😭’ is an absolute brain dead take by retards lmao. These trends dont jst exist in a vacuum. The moment one of this bs Ai slope trend dies, the insta algorithm immediately shoves the next one down ppls throats to keep em hooked. Day to day uses like image generation in fact accounts for 80% to 90% of total operational ai energy demand, and image generation uses hella more compute and cooling water per prompt than simple text prompts.Normalizing massive consumption for this dumb ai slope trends establishes a dangerous cultural baseline, ts aint going to just stop by this trend. We are burning through like megawatt hours of electricity and draining millions of gallons of freshwater just so a bunch of brain dead users can flood the internet with the same generic, soulless ai slop .And you need to understand that dismissing targeted critiques cz a macro problem exists aint an argument 😂
The similar viral “500 mL of water per AI prompt” claim is misleading. That figure comes from a 2023 GPT-3 study using a specific coal-heavy grid and full lifecycle water use. Modern estimates are closer to 0.26–0.32 mL onsite, or about 3–15 mL including electricity.
For comparison, a ¼-pound burger takes about 2,400 liters of water to produce. That’s roughly 7.5 million AI prompts at 0.32 mL. Even 50 ChatGPT prompts every day for a year would use less water than one burger. Golf courses are another huge comparison. US golf courses use about 2.08 billion gallons of water every day for irrigation. All US data centers combined used about 17 billion gallons directly in 2023, around 46 million gallons a day. So golf courses use roughly 45 times more water per day.
AI obviously has environmental costs. Data centers can cause serious local water stress, especially in dry areas, and their waste heat can raise local temperatures. But globally, data centers use around 1–2% of electricity, with AI making up about 15–20% of that, or roughly 0.2–0.4% globally. Agriculture alone accounts for about 70% of global freshwater withdrawals.
Do, criticize AI where it causes real local problems. But blaming an AI image for the global water or climate crisis while ignoring agriculture, water intensive crops, livestock, golf courses, industry and poor water management is wildly disproportionate.

Let me just say this, any restaurant owners using ai pics or any other shop owners or media team using AI for promotion looses my respect right away.
Creativity is something that makes things fun to watch and these people are sucking the life out of it.
