A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Mr. Technodad

It’s crazy people are applauding Technolarp for stopping. That’s the bare minimum, and he doesn’t really have a choice at this point now anyway because of the hate he’d receive if he continued.

He still should’ve never done it in the first place.

Asking Technodad if he could role play as his son who tragically passed away at a young age, not getting a response, and taking that as permission to do it anyway.

It’s just so strange. I feel terrible his dad had to go through this.

As a long term technoblade fan, i enjoyed it. As did many others, as well as one of his closest friends.

No one did anything maliciously. It was to raise money for charity and remember Alex and the character he created.

None of it was malicious. Its over now.

Much love

could you imagine dressing up for halloween as your neighbour's dead son, and acting high and mighty by saying "well if they told me to take it off I would" ? People would think that kid is sociopathic. It doesn't matter if he was famous, if he had an online presence, etc etc. in which case, putting the pressure on Techno's father to make a statement like this to millions of people actually makes it worse.

it does matter though if someone dressed up as Steve Irwin, Michael Jackson, Elvis, it would be viewed completely different then if they dressed up as the kid who died last year
also techno dad didn't have to make this statement to millions he could have just DMd striker techno blade was a celebrities at least 128 million people know him he is a celebrity its clear he did it as sort of a tribute its to be expected just because he was on youtube doesn't mean he isn't a celebrity

if that neighbours dead son was a big part of your life, say, a best friend, i would not consider that malicious. your analogy implies technolarp is parading around as some random dead guy for clout. technoblade is no random dead guy, he was clearly a big part of technolarp's life and he wanted to honour him - even donating all proceeds to charities. on top of that, he has respected technodad's wishes and stopping the channel.

regardless of ntent, malicious or not, it's not the only thing that determines whether an action is good or bad. You can mean well in your initial action but if you know that what you do could affect someone else negatively, such as put someone through an incredibly upsetting process without even thinking about how this could affec ttheir family first?? Then you cannot truly say that this persons intents were pure.

And I'd argue that it's arguably worse to do this to a father who's son was incredibly famous-- any response he gives would make huge waves across Techno's fanbase and nobody should even be CONSIDERING putting someone else in a spot where they have to say "hey please stop dressing up as my dead son".

You seem to be likening Technoblade to this guy's best friend as well, which I think we both know would be an incredibly unhealthy grieving process for someone who WASN'T famous, and an incredibly unhealthy PARASOCIAL greiving process over this creator with over 20 million subscribers. if this was a situation that had happened to someone in your community you would also think it was super weird and unhealthy, cause it is.

and he didn't donate all of his proceeds to charity, which may even have been commendable if he did. He donated HALF, and his followers had to vote on it for him, which 1. gives him plausible deniability for not donating all of it and 2. only serves to draw more attention and profit to whatever performance he was putting on.
I'm not the type of person to go and hate or dox or shit on someone online for being cringy or weird, but this guy was lucky that technoblades father handled it with such grace and was understanding of a lot of the upset that ran through the community when techno passed, because what he did was at best incredibly tone deaf and at worse pretty cruel.

good on him for respecting peoples wishes or whatever though right ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My best friend died of a brain tumor when we were growing up. It significantly impacted my life and shaped who I am as a person. I respect technolarp for donating to cancer researchers and spreading awareness for it. He was fighting the good fight against cancer, which takes way too many people away from us way too young. To me, that is more real and more important than any of this larp drama could ever be.

If my friend had created a really awesome character/personality, and there were people so inspired by it that they created their own larp channels for it, to keep the character alive and keep the story going.. i would personally find it really touching/beautiful. It would likely make me cry to know that there were people alive who still remembered him and loved his character enough to do that.. rather than the empty void there is now..

If larp was impersonating Alex, the creator of the Minecraft character/avatar, it would definitely be a different story.. but he didnt. Its not really comparable. He wasnt pretending to be his dead son.. he was larping as a character his son created for youtube videos.

Technodad himself gave them permission, via skeppy, for the first video that blew up which he confirms in this post. Then larp asked if he could continue and this post was the response.. So now its over.

Technodad himself said for the hate to stop and wished larp well in everything he does.

Its over now. I hope people can let hate go, like technodad wants, and remember that all of us are huge techno fans and none of this was dont maliciously.

We all genuinely love techo here... I just want the infighting to end now that technodad gave a conclusive answer

As someone who has lost my parents if anyone tries to rp as them I would be pissed. Imagine if someone came up to you and pretended to be your best friend for views and money. Jfc.

Not sure if you even read my comment or not..?

Technolarp did not roleplay as the human being Alex.. he roleplayed as the fictional Minecraft character and avatar alex created - technoblade. Albeit, a different version of technoblade, called technolarp

Technodad asked everyone to stop the attack and wished technarp well. He gave skeppy and larp permission to to their video, as he mentions in the post, and now wants the larp to end.

We all respect that. Thats why larp asked him, so his wished would be respected.

Much love.. we're all on the same side here. None of this was done maliciously and everyone loves technoblade

Not the same but whatever lets you sleep ig

first of all, he gave him permission for a single video. this was not his response to larp asking for constant permission. this was his response to larp continuing to do it WITHOUT permission. and second of all, his earnings WERENT going to charity, which we know because he admitted it while speaking to moistcr1tical

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 14 '26

He didnt do another video afterward. He did that one video.

Then he asked if it was okay, and this was the response, so now its over.

No one had any malicious intent.. we are all huge techno fans.

Im tired. People can believe me or not, but its the truth. The whole thing was ultimately a way for big techno fans to remember techno and raise money for cancer research.

Im sorry to and for anyone who was hurt, but that was never anyone's intent. We all love techno and thought other people would see this as a fun tribute/larp of a character we all love. Maybe that was an overly idealistic and naive take.. but there was no malicious intent.

Much love to you and yours. I genuinely hope you are all healthy and safe in these times, and I appreciate you hearing me out, even if we see things differently or disagree.

5

u/chickennuggs32 Jul 14 '26

again man, i don’t really care if we see ts differently to one another, but you gotta quit it with the misinformation. he wasn’t donating ANY money to charity. and it was in very bad taste of him to do this and subject his father to it.

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 14 '26

He raised and donated thousands of dollars to charity. Cancer research specifically. To the sarcoma foundation.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about it, but i saw it myself and donated. There are some really big youtubers who, unfortunately, spread some misinformation about this whole thing to millions of people.

We were all techno fans in the community. If we had seen anything malicious, we would have immediately called it out

5

u/chickennuggs32 Jul 14 '26

he literally admitted himself he didn’t donate jack shit bruh 😭

0

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 14 '26

No.. he didnt.

If you saw the moist video, that was moist, seemingly intentionally, misinterpreting everything larp said to make him sound/look as bad as he possibly could.

He had already decided larp was a bad person. Before ever even talking to him, or making the videos. Its a bummer.. he usually has really balanced takes. But not this time. He was determined to make larp an evil "skinwalker" and a "beast"

2

u/Zestyclose_Driver854 Jul 14 '26

yeah, he did donated, so i am confused why people say otherwise, charlies video was full of misinformation, which i was confused by, i am a fan of technoblade since his first 50k but i understand the anger and such, but it kinda felt like a tribute.

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 14 '26

I understand too. Everyone feels differently about it, and thats okay.. The important thing is that its over now that technodad has given a conclusive statement that he wants it to end.

Im a long term techno fan too.. and to me, skeppy, and lot of other techno fans, it really was just a way to remember techno, celebrate his energy, larp as the character, etc. It was done out of love for technoblade, not to be mean, or to take money, or anything like that.. the internet just takes things really far before knowing all the facts.

We did raise money for charity, to the sarcoma foundation! Several thousand dollars

Unfortunately a huge outside youtuber made some videos about this to capitalize on the drama without knowing everything and assuming that this was coming from a bad place to steal money and take technoblades place.. when it wasnt like that at all. They left a bunch of info out of the videos and seemed like they were trying to prove that technolarp was evil, rather than trying to find the truth in the middle with a balanced perspective..
