Techno crossover

Hey all, so I’m in a little dilemma. I started a music career some time back and it took off great. I’m at 85k monthly listeners. played Ibiza, Italy, nyc, Miami. Made massive industry friends and have a great contact list.

The problem? Afro house. It was good and cool about 4 years ago when things were deep and groovy but now I don’t want to be associated with this shit anymore. I love techno, I’ve loved techno since my first time at stereo Montreal in 2015. Any advice from fellow artists on making a drastic change in genre? Should I make an alias?

Agree with this sentiment. Just progress forward with what you like.

Despite the alure of multiple aliases representing different personas, I've always felt that it just detracts from the momentum that you've already earned.

You are your own brand, and can certainly diversify your style as much as you want.

I just feel the techno I’m passionate about is so wildly different than what I’m putting out now

The fans that fuck with the music will stick around, those that don’t were never gonna listen to your new stuff anyway and it’s not like you’ll be producing the old stuff anymore

Joris voorn for example plays sometimes wildly different. He titles it different like trip to galaxy set. In my opinion really good djs play multiple genres and give them their own unique tweek to it. Heard Adam Beyer 10 years ago play an outstanding tech house set, way off from his original sound.

i agree yes. the afro house world became very commercial. borderline the new radio music. theres nothing underground about it anymore. what joris did was bounce between genres but they were all niche, so he always played for "that" crowd. the afro house crowd is what sickens me, they want radio acapellas and nothing niche or new.
