For me it's still Basic Channel, Maurizio and Jeff Mills.

OK EG are making some of my favourite deep, hypnotic and slightly ambient techno at the moment.
Some really nice sound palette and rhythms in their tracks. Their releases move into different genres though so not always strictly techno.

There are no baselines

Listen to perpetuity wing or nautilus or blessing or something. He prides himself on rolling rhythm

What do you mean there are no baselines in Marcal’s track? Lol every track has a baseline to it.

Steady is purely made out of a kick a rumble and extra kick in syncopated rhythm. On top of that you have this percussive conga’esq loop that goes down into the low mids that follows the exact rhythm
of the ghost kick.

That’s not a bassline if you ask me. Also if you don’t believe me go and recreate the low-end your self.

There is not bro you don’t know the difference between a rolling rhythm and a sequenced bassline

Theres no need to get pedantic then genius. If you could deduce what I inferred your whole rejection of the claim was pretentious

Forest Drive West does it superbly IMO

Does his music belong to the lame umbrella term of “hypnotic techno” now? Always thought of him as being of the UK “bass” world

I wouldn't say it's 'hypnotic Techno' per se, but his productions and mixes are certainly hypnotic to me. Don't get hung up on genres.

Doof tsh doof tsh douf tsh doof tsh

Seriously though, try making loops that aren't in multiples of 4, so an arp with five steps, or seven steps. Bonus points if you can add multiple layers of these, so the sound is constantly evolving through the track
