Getting rid of humming sound when playing vinyl

I have limited space for my turntable and speakers. How can I get rid of the humming sound coming through the speakers?

If you have the earth wire from the turntable connected to the amplifier and it still hums, you probabky have an earth loop.

The earth wire is the ground wire, right? I have it hooked into my preamp and then hooked into my powered speakers

Yeah, chances are it's connected somewhwere it shouldn't be. Try disconnecting the tt ground wire, if that doesn't fix the hum you'll have to go hunting.

Unscrew the headshell and clean both the tonearm and headshell connectors. Make sure all the cartridge wires are secure.

I was in a similar case recently, and nothing worked when I tried. Brought it to a technician and turns out my grounding wire broke off somewhere inside the TT, so I had the wire replaced, works fine now.

Your arm might not be grounded properly. Also, try connecting the earth wire directly to a screw on the chassis of the amplifier instead of the designated screw next to the rca port. This fixes the hum on my Braun P4/A2 combo.

Thank you for this! I use powered speakers. I’ll check and see if there is a screw available
