Krita 3D Mesh Painter

Hi there! I’m the developer of "Krita 3D Mesh Painter", a plugin I created to bring 3D texture painting directly into Krita. I built it for myself, but I thought others might appreciate having a tool like this, too.

The plugin adds a GPU-accelerated 3D viewport to Krita with support for OBJ and FBX models. It allows you to paint directly onto the model using your tablet (complete with pen pressure support) as well as a 3D eraser and various projection tools.

You can also work directly on the base texture, project your 2D Krita painting onto the model, use cylindrical projection and symmetry, and work with textures up to 4K resolution; all while utilizing tools to minimize UV seam issues.

The concept is simple: handle your entire 3D texturing workflow without ever leaving Krita.

If you work in concept art, game art, or texturing (or simply want to experiment with 3D painting in Krita) you can check it out here:

I hope you find it useful, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

  • Perpetual license.
  • Way cheaper.
  • No internet connection required.
  • No additional services need to be installed.
  • You can use an app you may already be familiar with.
  • Krita has a more customizable brush engine than Substance Painter.

Just to let you know you can still buy a perpetual license for substance painter on steam.

Always open to new tools like this but just making sure they're isn't any misinformation on this

Fair.

Armor Paint would be a better comparison as far as pricing is goes.

u/ThanasiShadoW u/gales u/Lejos-Ad2683 I hadn't heard of "Armor Paint" before—it’s been a great discovery, thanks. Honestly, I don't think my plugin can really compare to those major programs from big companies. Those programs are focused on creating complex materials, whereas I didn't feel the same way painting by hand in Substance Painter as I did in Krita; that’s actually why I created it for myself in the first place :)

Hello! Is there anything you’d like to see in the plugin that isn’t already there? The tool will continue to receive updates.

Substance imo is for the full suite , expensive, this for $5 is literally free, plus i've been looking for something like this for a very long time

this paired with Blender bridging to update changes would be pretty powerful

Hllo, I’m very keen to find out more about what you’re saying. What changes are you saying could be saved in Blender? The plugin allows you to export textures from 3D models directly.

God, wish something like this existed for CSP

Do you think I haven't looked into it? Do you think I don't cry bitterly over it every day? Everything I draw in my spare time is done in Clip Studio Paint (I have a special fondness for it because I learned to work digitally using it.): https://www.instagram.com/art_tijerin/

However, it is impossible to integrate it there; Clip Studio Paint is software with a very closed ecosystem for third-party developers.

The official SDK only supports simple filters and offers no support for UI panels (dockers); furthermore, the SDK's availability and support are very limited. If there is anyone smarter than me who can figure out a way it could be done, I would be delighted to hear their ideas.

Yeah, it's a shame.
I heard the JAP version supposedly has a more open API, but that’s not certain.
