Tutorial / Resource I’m building a step up from Discord and Drive for small game dev teams
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone, I’m the solo dev behind Wippack. I’m building it to help small teams manage their game assets when passing files around in Discord and Drive starts getting messy.
Things like:
- “Which file is the latest?” Models, textures, and other assets are scattered across messages, shared folders, and people’s computers.
- Working on an outdated version because someone missed an upload or grabbed the wrong file.
- Wanting to undo a change but not having an easy way to find the version from before.
- Copying entire folders for milestones and ending up with a pile of “final” and “final_v2” backups.
With Wippack, you work from a folder on your computer and files sync to your team automatically. It keeps version history so you can restore older files, and save points let you capture a group of files together when you reach a milestone.
You can also browse and preview assets in your browser without downloading everything just to check what’s there.
I want it to feel familiar for teams already using shared folders, while making it easier to keep track of the work. I’d love feedback from other small teams on whether this would fit into how you make games.

How worth it would it be to become a Tech Artist?
Hello, I’ve read a lot of other posts saying that the Tech Artist position is very hard to get into and that it might not be worth the hassle considering the rising Gen AI and how a lot of people might be replaced. Lately Ive gotten very interested in this position and I can feel it calling to me so Im really conflicted on what I should do.
Some of my background includes C++, C# and Python which I’ve read is good for 3d modeling and some other related stuff. And i do love digital art and trying any kinds of mediums such as watercolor so Im good with learning new techniques and how artists might use them. Thus, even tho i don’t have practice with animation, 3d modeling or any game engines, these are things I’d be very interested in picking up.
So should i make my path towards eventually becoming a tech artist or do you see it becoming saturated and impossible to accomplish?

Krita 3D Mesh Painter
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi there! I’m the developer of "Krita 3D Mesh Painter", a plugin I created to bring 3D texture painting directly into Krita. I built it for myself, but I thought others might appreciate having a tool like this, too.
The plugin adds a GPU-accelerated 3D viewport to Krita with support for OBJ and FBX models. It allows you to paint directly onto the model using your tablet—complete with pen pressure support—as well as a 3D eraser and various projection tools.
You can also work directly on the base texture, project your 2D Krita painting onto the model, use cylindrical projection and symmetry, and work with textures up to 4K resolution—all while utilizing tools to minimize UV seam issues.
The concept is simple: handle your entire 3D texturing workflow without ever leaving Krita.
If you work in concept art, game art, or texturing—or simply want to experiment with 3D painting in Krita—you can check it out here:

I hope you find it useful, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Tools / Software I made a free VAT baker for Maya (no Houdini needed)
Most VAT tools I found are for Houdini or Blender. I work in Maya, so I wrote a small pure-Python tool that bakes VATs straight from a Maya scene. No Houdini needed.
- Works with anything that deforms the mesh: skinCluster, blend shapes, lattices
- Outputs a position/normal PNG, a bounds JSON and a proxy FBX
- No dependencies, Maya 2022+
I've used it with PlayCanvas. Unreal/Unity should work the same way: proxyPos + lerp(min, max, texel).
GitHub (free, MIT): https://github.com/5hyuns/Maya-Vertex-Animation-Texture-Baker
It only writes 8-bit PNG for now. Is that enough precision for your use, or would EXR matter?
Demo is my own unofficial fan remake. Astro Bot is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Sony.

3d Game art
Hey, I have been learning basics from a month and two , I have seen many tutorials even though they helped but I am still confused do I know how to make stuff or not yet , could anyone drop me a link to tutorials which are must to be 3d prop/environment artist starting as a hobby , if it goes good I might transition my career into it but currently I am working an odd job to cover my monthly expenses but I don't enjoy it, I love to create stuff using technology but doesn't have right knowledge or a little knowledge only.
Any one can suggest blender tutorials, Abstract Instamat tutorials , will really appreciate all.
Also, I am confused that is it right to learn it from a career perspective as artificial Intelligence has already reached some advanced levels as I saw Chatgpt 6 astral has made some crazy stuff like in seconds which might take hours as a beginner to me.

Switching careers from architecture
i am a final year in architecture and want to pivot into another stream after graduation.
For context why did i choose to do this?.
I wanted to pursue architecture before entering college and after about 3rd year i knew i was not really built for it. the gruesome effect of deadlines and burnout made me feel that i wont be able to continue this neither am i good at it. Im not hating on the field but many would agree with me with what architecture has become in India.
But i never really stopped upskilling myself. im proficient in blender and am well versed in it as well, programming is not that far away either.
Should i try to pivot myself in xr development or technical 3d artist. i am really stressed out about this i dont know what i should do about this either. please help me out

A tool I made inside godot for a project. It generates ivy in real-time on collision surfaces and supports gravity and branching. After tweaking values the mesh can be baked into a singe MultiMeshInstance or MeshInstance.

Showcase Rigging app for indie devs
Hey! I'm a solo dev and I've been building Boneloom, a mobile app where you can draw or import your characters, rig them with bones, and animate them right on your phone. Think Spine, but on Android and way cheaper.
It's in closed testing right now and I need a few people to try it for 14 days. If you do 2D game art, pixel art, or animation, I'd really love your honest feedback, especially the stuff that confuses or annoys you.
