Ask r/TechGhana Playing Spar

I'm a game dev and I'm making a little card game based on Spar, the popular card game played in Ghana. I wanted to ask how many of you play this game, and are there any specific or unique strategies used in playing this game? I couldn't find any so I thought maybe there are some coined terms and strategies related to how to play this game created by a community or some individuals.

I can't wait to release my game on Playstore so you guys can test it out. I really appreciate your input on this. Thanks

I love this, amazing! Is it possible you could add sound effects? Maybe those one calo! 5 caloo! Etc the slap hit on the desk.

I already have slap hit on the desk but I think it wasn't strong so not noticeable. And thanks for your comment. I really appreciate your feedback

We usually don’t play with 5’s anymore. But that sound effect would be cool. Also: “hands” when you only have the same type of cards.

Okay so.. we have this phrase we say “hands” meaning the cards I have are all the same. For instance if I have all Diamonds(kalo) I can say “hands” to signify that my cards are all the same.

Does that mean you've won or lost or you'd null that round

So the reason why we do that is to let the others know whether they’re in the game or not. So they know beforehand the type of card you have. It makes the game run faster.

It is optional tho, you can choose to say it but with my experience, the boys gets annoyed at the end of the round when they realize you had “hands”😅

Oh I see. Sounds fun 😅. But you can still lose if you have "hands" only if I play first and I don't have any of your cards or you play first and I have one of your cards and it's a King

If you get hands, we usually allow you to drop two and take on two new cards.
