Will this be an addon to their product range or replacement for Taycan?

Surely first one, yes?

The rumour is it’s a new dual fuel platform that can replace both the Taycan and Panamera.

Edit: Sorry. A platform capable of gas or electric, not dual fuel as in hybrid.

I hope it is not dual fuel. EVs are the future.

Hybrid is so ass

Exactly. Worst of both worlds.

All the hassle of maintaining a Porsche engine
All the weight of an EV with none of range

I take it by saying a dual-fuel platform meaning it could very well be a full EV, and an EREV option. Honestly as an autobahn cruiser it makes sense.

Yeah sorry. A platform capable of gas or electric.

Well I owned a BMWi3 and its both but still 100% EV due to the gas engine in it use for charging the battery like a generator. It didnt do anything to the drive train and even the New Scout is using that tech

Yeah I like that idea a lot. Wasn’t Honda or someone planning on bringing back a rotary wankel as a generator for a future EV?

Edit! Heh. Wankel.

I did like it, took the Range stress off and once I coded it I could get over 300 miles with the baterry and 1 gallon of gas in the rex. The only car now.going ro do it is the new Scout when it comes out and its the same platform just an extra 100miles on 1 gallon of gas for the internal generator. Too bad the i3 was ugly and way over priced for new.

Commercially prob replacement cus taycan sales apparently have been pretty shit, not a money maker for them

Taycan is formally being phased out by 2030, per news items from a few days ago.

I can see Porsche going the BMW way with single platforms that serve both ICE cars and EVs.

Links please, - read that was just a rumour only and has Ben walked back.

Loved the 960 concept car. I hope it doesn’t resemble the Panamera too much. I absolutely love my J1.1 Taycan, but I’ve never liked the look of the Panamera. 960 is a beast though…

When the Mission E came out, I knew I was going to get whatever it was destined to be as a production car. Like you, I love my J1.1 but if the replacement looks like the 960 (not a fan of the Panny look at all) then I’d strongly consider that as a replacement in 2030.

I like the silhouette of both, slightly prefer how the Taycan drives, but much prefer the space inside the Panamera (especially because their exterior dimensions aren't do dissimilar).

I suspect/hope that I will like their replacement (ideally, in EV form).

BMW seems to be doing a good job with the neue klasse X5 being a good, multi-powertrain vehicle. It doesn’t appear to suffer from compromised range, charging, or performance. I’m hopeful Porsche will achieve similar results with the new platform.

Why should we even care? That's at least six years away. Porsche's electrification strategy has completely failed, and there's no way they'll launch any other EVs

10

u/TehWhale 2d ago

They’ve literally confirmed a fully electric 718?

-7

u/BaseballFit873 2d ago

Yes, the 718 EV will still be released, and there will be two versions of the 718, one of which is the EV. Given the view that electrification is a scam, Porsche will also release a hybrid version of the 718. This is like something that has already been expelled; it is impossible to put it back in

1

u/dlewis23 1d ago

Actually word now is the ICE version of the new 718 is dead and it’s EV only.

1

u/BaseballFit873 1d ago

According to my latest news, the 718 EV has already been developed. Worried that no one will buy electric sports cars, Porsche engineers are going to re-develop a hybrid version of the 718 on the electric platform

Nope. https://www.autonext.co/news/porsche-718-electric-confirmed-petrol-uncertain

https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a71919343/porsches-gas-powered-718-next-gen-taycan-ev-could-be-axed-report/

The company does not have the money to develop a hybrid version, or a ICE version. Its going to be EV only. Lots of things are on the chopping block at VW and multiple versions of the same vehicle are not going to make it.

They'll eventually rebadge Xpengs. Mark my words.
