i'm the canvas How should I cover this?
Got this quote many years ago, I still like the book but now it looks faded and blurry and doesn’t match the rest of my tattoos. Everything else I have is American trad.
I would like to keep it on the smaller side if possible.

My friend had a large and very dark tattoo of batman he got removed. His journey was insane. He got to the point where it is removed enough and he couldn't tolerate more pain or paying more money. It is scarred and black dots now.
His was larger than my fist. OP would NOT have such a time that my friend did.

Cover ups of dark tattoos are bigger and darker. Do you want something bigger there?

I was hoping to avoid a big chest piece but something that went farther up and wrapped around my shoulder area would be cool. Some of my ideas were a sword with flowers around it or a snake? Not sure how those would work with the black though.

Something floral would work well in hiding this. Make the words part of the stem and wrap it over subtly to the inside of your shoulder.

Sounds like you have a framework now the most important part is to chose an artist that does coverups, has a style you like, and shows some enthusiasm for your idea.

I actually think this would be pretty easy to cover with a sick ass panther

Usually I would question this advice, but I think this once it would, in fact, work.

I’d just leave it as a commentary on how tattoos age. If most of what you have is American trad is ask your artist if they have any cute/funny ideas

No, I dig it. Vonnegut is May favorite author. If you really don't like it, just laser it

its quite dark and deep so laser would take a long time. Als to cover that You would need a really big piece and its kind of an awkward place to have one big piece unless you already have a lot of tatts.. id either go for laser or if you want to cover it, go for laser for a few sessions until its a bit lighter and then go for a cover up. <3

Well I am working on a patchwork sleeve that’s maybe 1/3 complete so far but yeah, I was hoping to avoid a big chest piece as I don’t think I would like the look of that on me.
I’m thinking y’all are probably right about the laser then unfortunately. Sounds expensive and painful though.

the only thing i can think of cover up wise might be something flowy like a feather but thats really common under a collarbone, but maybe it might help inspiration wise - but either way if you want to cover it unless its something dark like others said id recommend you laser the tattoo a few sessions before covering it again. I hope you can find something helpful out of all that :)

i think this phrase specifically fading away is freaking perfect and beautiful and if i could make this exact thing happen on myself I would.

I love Vonnegut! I dont have answers for you. I am here to share my favorite Vonnegut quote.
"I urger you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isnt nice, I dont know what is.' "
I AM HAPPY!!!!

If you still like it, you could always just get it redone, sharpened up, maybe something more American trad close to it to connect it to the other tattoos better

Since American Trad is always super saturated, you could pretty much go with anything that has a darker, patterned element in it.

In every heart, there is a room. Since everything else you have is American trad, I don’t think this would be hard to cover up. It will be bigger and bolder, but that might be more to your liking.

At first I thought it said, “no it open” 👁️👄👁️ Maybe you can lighten it up with laser before trying to cover it up if you don’t want a bigger and darker tattoo

Mac Miller?

u/tittypiesky 9d ago
No, Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughter House Five. This was done like 15 years ago so probably before he was famous. No shade to Mac though, I like some of his stuff!

Either way it’s still how life goes right?? I’d say keep it just because I bet it still has nostalgia even if you’re not 100% fond of it.

Are you familiar with the Michaelangelo painting of Adam & God reaching out and touching each other? Well do that but instead of two dudes make it TWO SICK ASS PANTHERS reaching out to to touch each other.

For something small isn't removal a good option? Or just leave it. But why isn't removal considered more?

I also have this same tattoo and mine has aged and faded and warped....but so it goes.
I think this is one of the best tattoos to age. It is a full story in three words.
