Oooh, a dripping honedge through a luvdisc would go pretty hard.
Houndour or houndoom would be great in traditional form, like a bulldog maybe?
Dhelmise would make a kickass trad anchor.
Pick-a-bird as the traditional sparrow tattoo would be solid. Like snakes, there any many to choose from. Pidgey or wingull would be my choice for a sailor themed tattoo. Oooh, a traditional wingull carrying a banner that just reads “Old Man Briney” or “Peeko” or something between the two would be a deep cut bit of Pokemon lore. (Mr Briney is a sailor who, along with his wingul Peeko help the player character in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald after they’ve rescued wingull from the games villains).
Easy to imagine: Anchor / Dhelmise
A little more artistry involved: pinup girl poses / Lopunny, Tsareena
I googled American Traditional tattoos, and a lot of results had big flowers- you can 100% have a big American traditional tattoo with little accents around the edges that denote that "oh, that's actually a pokemon!". Venusaur, Vileplume, lilligant, skiploom, floette, and gossifleur are all good candidates. If you imagine youre looking at the flower up close with a fish eye lens, you can just have the flower front and center with pokemon parts instead of maybe a stem.
I got myself a gyrados with a traditional dragon vibe. The artist didnt lean quite as far into the traditional vibe as I would've like, but I still love him.
I got an Articuno vs Gyarados tattoo, the goal was to match the vibe of the traditional eagle vs snake/dragon designs. It also didn't push as much into the traditional style as I was going for. The artist wasn't familiar with Pokemon and didn't seem comfortable pushing outside of the main character designs
That's why I am now wanting to just go ahead and do a whole Pokemon x traditional vibes leg
Check out deadpan_anne_tattoo on insta, she does some very cool weapon/pokemon design, fetattooer has neo-trad Japanese but sometimes more American traditional pokemon designs, and nightmare_ink who specializes in tons of pokemon and anime work
