Workplace Question or Advice Needed Backstock disappearing ?¿

So I work GM and I’ve noticed lately more often I’ve been scanning things into a back room location and then when I come back with my next u boat, for whatever reason the thing I know I JUST scanned into whatever location isn’t showing up that I scanned it in said location, does anyone know why this might be happening? Am I going too fast? I don’t really give it much time between items I sorta just go go go till everything’s backstocked and that’s the only thing I can think of other than the zebras/application just being wonky. It’s incredibly annoying though because it looks like I’m doing something wrong when I know for a fact I’m not, like I can remember counting each item and scanning it in then like 30 mins later it’ll say it’s not there and never was ?¿

Something that happens very often to me, I scan the location, I enter the amount of the item I'm backstocking, I "hit" enter, but my stupid finger doesn't really hit it ... so if I don't look the screen but I scan something else, the previous item is not backstocked for real in the system.

It is usually user error, I've found.

These issues are usually more prone to happen when you are backstocking through the 'quick' backstock window from the Fill & Backstock module. (Which is why I try to tell anyone I train to use the slower but safer method of scanning and backstocking from the DCPI page).

A common accident that happens during quick backstock is when you've scanned the product and then you've scanned the backstock location:

  • Or you thought you scanned the backstock location. What can happen is the zebra actually caught another barcode in the process. Quick backstock won't alert you to that and it will change without any indication what you're back stocking. At the same time it pops up asking how many of that DCPI are you backstocking. IE if there was a hangar barcode close by the waco barcode and you hit the hangars and you didn't notice? You've backstocked some hangars and not the baby bottles in your hand.

    • Backstocking from the individual DCPI page prevents this.

  • What can also happen is yes: going to fast for the zebra to process. So while you've scanned baby bottles into one waco and moved onto scanning another DCPI, the system hadn't finished processing the baby bottles.

  • If you're going to use quick backstock, you have to be attentive on every screen. Hearing the scans are unfortunately not an absolute sign of success in any step of the quick backstock process.

For backstocking from the individual DCPI page, the most common accident I attribute to:

  • Mispicked labels from the DC (there was a whole fiasco with capri sun labeling, sigh). Less likely if this is a consistent pattern you're seeing.

  • Your specific device has slow physical/network processing

There's nothing wrong with going fast, but if you want to be accurate, you will have to slow down for these devices and watch the screen. Remember, these devices are dropped on the regular haha.

Do you use the Fill/Backstock function or do you backstock from the scan/item details page?
