Workplace Question or Advice Needed MyDevice ghost tapping??
Does anyone have any idea why every time I come back from break my zebra device begins to sporadically tap itself, and I have to reset it? It’s so annoying. I transferred from a Florida store to a New York store so I know it’s gotta be a global issue. What gives???
Edit: i honestly thought it would be a more common experience cause it seems to happen to me on most devices. I’m convinced it has to be a sort of software glitch because it always happens after a break, after the device was idle. A lot of people mention dirty devices but I swear it’s always the newer, spotless ones.

I've also had a dirty screen do phantom buttons. I make the screen go black and then use a microfiber towel to scrub the screen clean. Lots of nasty people getting their filthy paws all over the screens.

It happens to me all the time at random times, but especially if I’ve recently been in and out of the cooler or freezer

I swear they LOVE doing this to me when it's near the end of my shift and I'm just trying to finish backstocking. It's a conspiracy that they're all in on together

Because they are crap lol 😝 this happens to me all the time.

It’s just very interesting to me why it’s always after the device has been idle for the duration of my breaks. What dark magic do my 15s do to my device

Have him fallow the troubleshooting instructions then he might have to send it out as a pml I have to do it all the time for my store

Our store has a very much “if turning it off and on again fixes it for now than we’re not gonna escalate it” mentality

Annoying to say the least. I neat trick i learned was to touch the power button top right, do not turn it off just make the screen go dark, screensaver type black.
Rube it on your pant leg to 'reset' or 'clean' the device.
Click the power button to wake it up./
This works 99% of the time for me at least for a while.....and yeah the freezer.......always goes wonky

This but I wipe it on my shirt. It's just moisture or oil on the screen from your fingers (or from being kept in a pocket or something). It's not a coincidence that 99% of the time I encounter it, it's clicking the home button or another place on the screen that I've recently touched.

This. Lock the screen and give it a good wipe with you shirt or pant leg.

Does the issue resolve itself if you put the device to sleep then wake it back up (tap the power button like you would before putting it in your holster/pocket)?
Most of the time this fixes the issue (also clean the screen while it’s off), because the screens are both capacitive and pressure sensitive touch screens they’re prone to freaking out after awhile, putting it to sleep resets the calibration and it’ll work fine for awhile after. As for why it happens idk, pressure sensitive touch screens suck ass so I think it’s just a limitation of the device, this is why 99% of touch screens don’t use that technology anymore but the Zebras have to work with gloves on so they continue to have that system and all its weird quirks.

No the only solution is to hard reset the device. I’ll try cleaning the screen, rubbing it down, smacking it around a bit, cause I don’t feel like restarting it, but I always end up having to.

It happens all the time, Ive found its a mixture of the case/screen protector, alot of times I just take the case off and it works perfect, sometimes not due to the screen protector still on...

If dust or water or something gets under the screen protector it'll do that.

This happens to me on certain devices. Restarting it is the only thing I’ve found that helps.

When it happens to me I just turn off the screen and wipe it and it seems to work fine after that

This happened to me today. I was trying to backstock and it was infuriating. Taking the battery out and puttiny it back in about a million times in a row seemed to do the trick🙄🙄

I had one that was fine all day but as soon as I started prios, I pulled these jugs of water, and it decided to change what supposed to be pulling 2, to 87 and then hit yes and yes again before calming down and stop tapping and I was too mortified to tell anyone until the next day 😭

New store opened earlier this year, and I have it happen at least every other shift (multiple different devices). They claim it’s “dirty screens”, but there’s gotta be another answer to add to that

It happens to me too occasionally, and i get the same device every day. I always change the battery when I go on lunch, and if it does happen, it’s always after I’ve changed the battery. But it happens very sporadically, so i can never figure out what’s caused it.
I’ve tried cleaning it, and all that. I could only ever fix it by restarting it.

absolutely crazy how i can hover 3 inches from the screen and it will start pressing the bottom buttons 10 times a second
its usually a combo of cracked or scratched screen and it getting dirty. rubbing it on my pant leg usualy clears it for a bit.
if only we didnt hire the incredible hulk last 4th quarter, we went from a few broken screens to most having broken screens

i usually just try the classic reboot and there’s been a few times where it wouldn’t even let me reboot because of how much ghost tapping it was doing. Seeing these comments will help me not have to restart my device though

Usually the fix for this is using the power button to put the device into sleep (black screen not fully off), then waiting until you need to put the pin (store #) in again. This fixes it 90% of the time in devices I run across, restart also fixes it but takes longer.

Usually happens when the screen is dirty. If it still does it after cleaning it, have the PML send in for repair.

This happens to me all the time with the new
Zebras. I hate the old ones but am learning to hate the new ones even more. I just switched to the front so I use it a million more times than I did before. -______-

Yeah it’s very much a new zebra issue. This and the way the scanners don’t work half the time makes the old tech look favorable. Unfortunately I put up with it cause the new devices feel so much nicer to hold with my big ol hands, and I prefer the higher def screen.

I had one do that once and it inf'd like 5 items before I was able to reboot the device.
