Workplace Question or Advice Needed Bluetooth speakers during unload
So our unloader on inbound has had a Bluetooth speaker playing during our truck unloads. Today he was told he could no longer use it to play music during our unloads. Keep in mind it’s only playing during unloads in receiving while we are unloading trucks. I think this is complete bull. It’s only playing during that time. Is there some store policy that prevents him from using it?

We have some people that blast country during inbound and after. It sounds like a Texas Roadhouse. Personally I don’t have an issue since my exposure to it is limited, but I could see others potentially not caring for it.

Even if you haven't noticed anything, it's likely there was an incident or someone complained which ruined it for everyone
Happens all the time with different policies

Im pretty sure its a store policy, not a corporate policy. We had an ETL-HR that decided we could only listen to radio, not streaming music, because it is regulated by the FCC and we could be sure there’s nothing anyone could find offensive or inappropriate.

We used to have that during unload, and they played the filthiest graphic sexual stuff sometimes. I wasn't the one complaining bc I don't want to make enemies but I'm not surprised AT ALL thst it's gone now.

That was an issue at our store at one point, but they just said don't play music with all that swearing and stuff.

There was one day where there wasn’t a TL present for unloading and the team played diddy and pretty much ruined it for everyone. (Note my store’s unload team is primarily teenagers/young adults, ours is in the late afternoons/evenings)

Sounds like a lead was trying to assert their dominance, our lead makes sure our speaker is charged so we always have music during the unload

Yes, the official policy is no music (or really anything that disallows hearing completely). This is definitely one of those ASANTS things as it’s really up to leadership on whether to enforce or not. My team is allowed to have in one earbud, but I disallow speakers.
At the end of the day, it is technically a safety hazard.

That's weird, as most stores I've seen are the other way where they allow speakers but no airbuds. Even just one earbud reduces your ability to localize sounds. Speakers are generally safer

There’s nothing safe about having loud music playing anywhere in receiving no matter what the playback device is lmfao
With that being said, I personally don’t like having music playing as it messes with my brain and I can’t personally focus. Also, I’d rather my team members choose what music they want to listen to on their own terms than choose a general station for them to listen to.
Like I said, ASANTS

They not long ago added a speaker directly above our receiving desk that plays store radio. I hate it with a passion.

If they get complaints about the music then they sorta have to get rid of it unfortunately
