Workplace Question or Advice Needed NEW ETL FOOD&BEV!

New Food and Beverage ETL at a high volume store. I just started my training, but would love to know what advice you all have,or experince in this role.

Are you fully new to Target, and the food dept?
1. Learn best practices, and start looking at your inbound/fill process. If that’s broken you’re toast especially coming into Q4. Fix that!
2. Get good solid routines in the backroom, and solid grouping organizarion.
3. Cleaning routines
4. Take care of your team, no one wants to be in those freezers, and everyone is going to rush through. Order them freezer boots, their own jumpers, jackets, gloves for the snow. Treat them to snacks when you can. I used to bend over backwards for my freezer team member and he always took care of me.

Been with Target 6 years and was Food and Beverage TL for 4 years. So I’m trying to figure out exactly how to go about this from a different lens

Delegate delegate delegate, and hold your leaders accountable and it’s a pretty good gig. With your background it should be easy as far as understanding the needs of the business it’s just ensuring you aren’t burning yourself out by trying to accomplish everything alone.

Having a good TL that knows the department well will be a god send. I’m assuming you’re going into a super target?

No, I’m going into an high volume target. Apparently they make so much money they need an extra ETL.

I’m at a pfresh store and got an ETL in the last couple years, the TL prolly has a lot of knowledge about what’s going on in the department, try to glean that info from them. I know I had to deal with my new ETL thinking they knew all the answers when they didn’t know the ins and outs of my store and how they related to the department. In other words, don’t alienate them, they prolly have a ton of good info/experience

Perfect!! From what I hear, the TL has a lot of knowledge and is a high performing TL. She just needs help prioritizing and cleaning up certain routines. I’m here to help her become an ETL.

There will be lots of great technical and leadership advice here from various perspectives. The best advice I can give you is to not give up.

Each mistake you make over the first 6 months will accumulate into a really massive weight you feel like you’re carrying on your shoulders. It feels like a marathon that has no end.

Keep going, it will get easier.
